  1. Thanks for the detailed answers. It seems overpriced for sure. I’d probably pay €300 max, being no expert. I’m not too bothered with what’s on the headstock I guess some people might like a cheap ‘Fender’. MIJ jazzes come up for the same price a few times a year on that site so will have to bide my time. Cheers again.
  2. Saw this add and was wondering what the experts on here have to say about this bass: https://www.adverts.ie/17699718 Happy Friday!
  3. I'm only a learner but rather than waste time I tune that tiny amount under rather than over and bend the string a tiny amount till it sounds sweet. Works for guitar and bass. I guess that's what most people do.
  4. This resonates, definitely still a practicer and hoping to make it to part timer by 65 so I can jam as I age.
  5. Dan’s a very effective teacher I find. He’s expanded my still limited knowledge of musicianship no end. He adds lots of tidbits about stuff like that into the main idea of the lessons. Brown Mark (played with Prince) has a YouTube channel and his lessons are great because he’s a good laugh and teacher:
  6. Super cheap strat but they were mij in Nagoya from what I can find. They did a lines if basses too. The neck is actually lovely. Not bad for 30 yo-yos. Does anybody have further info? cheers Pete
  7. I have an Arbor Les Paul that’s a bit too heavy for my back but every time I go to sell it it goes back in the case after a few days play and back under the bed. The neck is lovely so it always get put back on the keeper list. It’s better than it should be as guitars go.
  8. Hello bassists & arbiters of bass matters. This is a self produced ep I did 4 years ago that's sort of piano synth ambient. I played all of main the parts on acoustic guitar and then converted them to midi in Ableton. I used Kontakt for the piano samples and played VST synths on top. Funnily after all this time it's started to make it onto some Spotify playlists so that's given me the confidence to post it on here! Happy Sunday.
  9. The advice above is all solid, definitely do not try it over WiFi and maybe have your phone ready to tether as a back up. I did lots of streaming of all sorts of events in my last job and it’s a pain in backside but very rewarding. People are very unforgiving of bad audio quaintly online, it’s much easier to get away with bad video quality. For a low budget gig of a choir we did I just put a zoom h4n in front of them and got them to go through a song a few to check for clipping and to see how it sounded. if possible follow the above advice on using a desk and thinking about audio capture, much more engaging content if it has a nice mix going on. In the end we settled on one of these: https://teradek.com/collections/vidiu-go-family running desk audio into a camera and into that bit of kit. Bullet proof setup for roving streaming. It’s not cheap but if the gigs went well it’s a very good investment as it takes a lot of the issues out of live streaming. In the meantime Obs to YouTube with the zoom and lots of lighting would be my recommendation for the least hassle, best quality content. YouTube is sort of setup for monetising live steams too I guess. Final word of advice would be that live streaming can be a bit of a pain as there are a lot of factors interacting. I’d do a couple of bands just focused on that without playing bass yourself until you get the software and kit all working together. It sounds like a worthwhile endeavour, all the best with it. Edit: typos
  10. Moving your amp up to ear level and using a compressor works in my experience. If it’s down on the floor you have to turn it up more to get the same effect. I read somewhere that due to the length of low frequency waves the loudest point is fifteen to twenty feet away from the amp, if that’s where your better half is sitting that could be it too. Could be wrong about all of the above as I’m a strictly bedroom hobbyist. Also my neighbour makes loads of noise so I don’t need to feel bad when I do turn it up.
  11. I’m in this club too. Didn’t know there was a term for it 😂.
  12. the neck on the Arbor Series Les Paul I have is lovely too, the rest not so good. The guitar is super heavy too.
  13. Good advice thank you. It’s a pass so.
  14. No it’s on adverts.ie https://www.adverts.ie/24081884 I have an sr800 and wouldn’t mind a passive bass too but don’t know if the quail it’s difference would make the Hohner redundant.
  15. Anyone tried or have an opinion on Hohner Arbor series P basses? I know it’s probably Baltic birch ply but I have a Les Paul type guitar from the same series and it seems to hold its own. cheers Pete
  16. Just blown the budget yet again the missis is literally giving out to me as I type.
  17. This is for sale in Tipperary: https://www.adverts.ie/24091557 1985 Bb1000s. Might be of interest to a fellow bass chatter.
  18. I love trading basses and guitars (mostly low end) as I try to build up a studio on a showstring. For the last year some prices seemed high but I’d say it’s levelling off now a bit, there’s still always the bargain ‘quitars’ and the odd deal where the person is not interested in waiting for a good price. If you’re quick you can always jump on those be sure to get your money back if it’s not a keeper. I’d be much more cautious buying high end gear as I don’t know enough about it all and that could be painful. But I’d say the restricted supply of new gear is inflating the prices of some secondhand gear and that could go back the other way.
  19. Thanks Leonard, can’t beat sitting around playing with funk rhythms for an afternoons soul food.
  20. Hello fellow bass chatters. My music isn’t all that good and I’m totally self taught so feel free to bear that in mind. Nonetheless making music is one of my main pleasures in life and who knows maybe someday it won’t all be shite. Wrote this yesterday anyway after a week of Irish staycation: https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/2KKqkidj4ZTNPhaZA Cheers Pete
  21. Thanks again. This one is a keeper for sure.
  22. Not affiliated with these guys at all but really enjoying their live streams. A small guitar/bass shop in the states and two guitar nerds answering your questions. they are only a new channel but an old shop. Good viewing really.
  23. Excellent news. Thanks indeed for your help.
  24. As a hobbyist with limited skills and a restrained budget for gear (one in one out) I’m very cautious about this purchase. Any strat experts know if it’s real? Thank you. pete Edit: fix typo.
