1. Galliano have moved therer sond around a bit. The era around Twyford down was cool! Acid jazz used to do compiliation albums, I've ot a few somewhere, a good rane of sounds from funk, UK acid jazz, latin etc, I bought albums by several artists on the strength of what I heard on those CD's Also try Mr Exe, Count basic, Seven Eleven (with bootsy clone, Dodge), Roy ayres, Groove collective, Quantic soul, there's more, but most seem to appear on compilation albums, if you know where to look, you can find some serious funk. I rely on one of my mates for this particular genre! Freakpower kind of had that sound around the tune in period, check out the album. Mother Earth, great band, saw them live once, check out the poeple tree! Tony
2. Yeah, I know what you're sayin! The white p/up covers make it happen as well! I checked a few years back, and as far as I know, you can't get your hands on these covers in white, maybe thats changed now? Tony
3. I have an L2500, but it's fretless, so maybe not the best to compare against a 'ray Will say this though, lots of tone options and a really good B string for a 34" scale bass I have no experience of the tributes, but I'd look out for a second hand US L2500, they can be had for around £600 - £700! Tony
4. Re: price of a refin! I got a quote from the tech who works in PMT at Salford and it was £200 Another quote from http://paulcuthbertguitars.co.uk/ and that was around the £150 mark The guy who is doing mine is less, but then he doesn't do it full time, but good at what he does @waynepunkdude - yes, I agree :-) Tony
5. Thx for the advice! The thread was intended for colour opinions! I wouldn't refinish a bad bass and wouldn't chuck a high amount of $$ at a bass when I could buy one for less, been doing the bass thing for too long ;-) Torn between powder blu and bttercream style off white, both with a tort' plate! It should go in next week, I'll do the usual beofre and after stuff Tony
6. Nice colour! It all adds up right, I got a good refinisher contact and the price is right, making it cost effective, so that side of it is fine, I saw some of his work tonight as he has done a fair bit for the guitarist in my band. This guy is good from what I've seen, but he does it more as a passtime as his regular job involves spraying and keeps him way too busy to do this sort of thing full time, apparently he really enjoys doing guitars! The finished price is gonna come in less than the average ebay price and I'll be getting a similar colour to the new EB classic basses! Just gotta make a decision on the colour Tony
7. Hi Some of you may have seen the MM Sterling with the laquer crack for sale last week, well I ended up buying it! I figured it may be more than a laquer crack as I've seen the exact same thing before (on a Conklin bill dickens bass). The area around the control cavity is prone to cracking due to the large area of wood that is missing. It's an easy fix done by opening up the split and hetting as much Isophalic resin in there as is possible, the clamped up until dry. Ends up stronger than the surrounding woood, I am told! I am going to get the bass refinished once this is done. Thinking about going the same route as the new classic 'rays and sterlings! Bass is currently sunburst with a maple fretboard, so considering sonic blue (or powder blue on the new MM models)in nitro, with a tort plate! I'm very much into retro colours these days (you seen my sea foam green jazz? :-) ) whites are cool, especially off whites, like the buttercream MM did a few years back, What do you guys think? End result will be a cool looking bass at less than the price of a used stock coloured sterling! Tony
8. @bubinga 5, is that a custom classic CS jazz or another model, specific to 1970? nice bass! My 5 string Sei was a keeper, but ended up going with the need to change back to a 4 string. My sea foam green jazz came along and it's soooo nice, so staying with me for a good while. Took me ages to find it and it is a dream to play, I like the idea of trying some Nordy's though ;-) Tony
9. I have a Jap P bass tuned down to D G C F, leave it like that all the time, for using on one song we do when the geezer who wrote My Star with Ian Brown plays with us. I rarley play the P for anything else, so have the luxury of leaving it in that tuning, 45-105 strings are used. Tony
10. re: video Class!
11. Someone just bought this on ebay so, sold pending payment it is! Tony
12. Bump, needs to go now, make me sensible offer!
13. Really pleased with this bass, just had a busy few weeks of gigging and it was a joy to play, last night, at Academy 3 in manchester, which is probably one of the best sounding venues I've played, it sounded great, a few poeple commented on the sound! Helped along of course with my trusty EBS rig (the BIG RIG :-) ) Tony
14. I will be back in the MM club, sometime next week! A Sterling will arrive, then will take a trip out for a refin in a cool shade of blue, something along the lines of sonic blue, maybe the same powder blue as on the EB classic models. The powder blue seems to work better with the maple necked basses? It will be nitro and will be having a tort pick gaurd as well! Tony
15. That Sonic blue is amazing, one of my fave colours, along with sea foam green! It must be a Manc' thing! Tony
16. Sunday night bump! Buy this, then go buy Shockwaves fretted version for a matching pair Tony
17. Great cab this, I had one for a good while, moved it on as I moved to two 4x10's from the same range of cabs Good luck with the sale Tony
18. Like it says, we play Academy 3 tonight tickets £6 on around 9:15, we also got Aziz Ibrahim with us again for a few tracks Played in Brixton last night at Brixton jamm, was a gooooooood night! Tony
19. My band did this just before xmas, NWR was indeed a gent, had a good chat with him before the gig and watched him jam with the drummer before sound check, great player! Have fun Tony
20. Monton, you never heard of Monton? To be honest a lot of poeple say "where the fook is Monton" Yeah, it's not far from Boothstown, the other side of Worsley, before you head into Salford or Eccles! Have fun Tony
21. One of my favourate J tracks to play and listen to, PT on bass with an AC. I have audio only of this gig on my i-pod, some great playing by Mr Turner with some great interpritations of classic Zender lines, such as this one. Other tracks from this gig are on there as well
22. Hi Welcome, not too far from me either (monton!) Tony
23. Make me an offer bumppppp!
