1.
They are superb basses, my Legacys were the best basses I've ever owned.
I'd love a Legacy but buying used is the way I would go in future !! Who knows what'll come up ??!!
2. I did get it in the end. It arrived in late March, I'd assume the one on their FB page was from Jon bass on this thread as he paid for his 3 months after mine and recieved his earlier. To be fair, it is the pinnacle of the art of bassbuilding and it clanks and grinds with the best of them. Neck feels incredibly rigid. Utterly, utterly beautiful and its now out gigging hard. I dont want to say anymore about being a moaning B'tard, it WAS definitely worth the wait BUT I wish I'd had more honest information.... if they'd said upfront you could be waiting up to a year, I'd have still probably made the order. I'd paid upfront in good faith it was going to take 6 months to get built.... it took 16 months from payment to getting it. It was a happy ending whatever !!!!!
3.
Third time lucky? So for you have discussed the amplifier and the speaker. Just supposing that it is your instrument that is generating the problem - you could spend quite a lot of money on an amplifier whose power you can not use, and a speaker that farts even more because you have put it a box that was not designed for it. May I suggest that before you spend any money, you do some more testing with other signal sources - conventional bass guitar, MP3s that have a bass solo on them - anything other that a DB with a Piezo pickup - and find out if they fart too, or can be played at the higher volumes that you want. David
This may make you laugh but it sounds great, really full and punchy, no problems here. I have steel cored Eurosonic Ultralights on it and I made some aluminium mounts to fit Mustang bass pickups to the end of the fingerboard. A Lee Rocker inspired set up but an actual pickup per string if you like, rather than a P. bass pickup across all 4 strings. Theres 3 piezo contacts under the fingerboard for the slap bit, all wired to a Jazz bass style circuit. I dont have a standard style bridge piezo on it. Im doing another bass build with a similar style of pickup mounting but with custom wound Sentell pickups and a John East Stingray replica preamp so that should be fun !! So, the source isnt a problem.
4. I read somewhere that the 34 and a Stingray have the same neck pocket dimensions so should be fine.
5. Thats good info, cheers mate !! Thats pretty much what I needed to know really. Its the Ampeg speaker not the EV. I also wondered about removing the amp head unit itself and attaching another small, more modern and powerful amp to the 'lid' and just putting a Celestion neo 15'' like a BN15 400X at 8 ohms in the cab. Save a lot of hassle.
6. So the existing pre amp / tone controls would not work then ? Looks like a combo search then !!
7.
Afraid you're peeing upriver with this one. I wouldn't attempt this on ANY amp (and I'm an electronic engineer!). Just too much to take into consideration. With the speaker farting out it may be what's holding you back and a more efficient cab would certainly help. I'd start there. You obviously like the Ampeg sound, so if you decide to go for something louder then maybe one of their newer offerings, like the PF500. Saw one sell used locally for £170 quid last week.
Ok, lots to take on board there, great answer !! Can I just ask why ?
8. I need a 1x15 combo for rockabilly upright bass. I have access to a 90's Ampeg B-15T, the transistor version. Its 100 watts and fine for rehearsing, but not loud enough for live use and the speaker gets farty. I'm considering buying a minimum 300 watts Trace / Ashdown or similar (I'd LOVE a Fender TV Bassman 1x15 !!) 1x15 combo or is spending the budget on a better, lighter more efficient 15'' driver and possibly maybe uprate the power stage to 300 / 400 or so watts. I like the amp, the pre-amp sounds great with the upright thumping through it, D.I. is fine, looks cool etc etc but I just wondered if a bigger transformer could be fitted and a speaker to match ? Any ideas, thoughts or opinions or am I peeing upriver even thinking about it ?
9.
Why doesn't he just use a fender Dimension....?
Well......
10. FenderRay haha !! I dont think I'd buy one if they did release this as a signature bass, was just wondering how long its going to be before we see it.
11. According to The Fender Book (updated edition) by Tony Bacon and Paul Day, on page 80, I copied this, as it is. Technically speaking, Fender's Mexican plant doesn't manufacture guitars. It assembles guitars. Mike Lewis, vice president of marketing for electric guitars at Fender, explains that the bodies and necks for the company's Made In Mexico guitars are produced at the US factory in Corona and then sent down to the Mexican plant. ''There they sand them, paint them and buff them, and assemble them into guitars, with their own hardware. Also, they make their own pickups there, as well as all the Fender strings. So it would seem that they CNC all the wood bits in Corona. I hear USA bodies are 3 piece blanks, Mex are 5 piece. I can understand why they wouldnt have two sets of the same CNC machines. One set in Corona and another 180 miles south in Ensenada.
12. I've seen Flea popping up now and again with different versions of this Jazz Bass..... Anyone reckon this obvious prototype is going to be a new Fender release of a new Flea signature bass ?? Musicman sure did miss a big oppertunity not doing him one as all his basses seem to follow the Stingray layout. Ooof !!!
13. There are soooo many horrible horrible noises out there lauded as 'music'. God forbid my record collection ever got out as I have a famously bad taste in music, many friends have told me over the years to that effect anyway. I read this somewhere, to which I apply, any time Im exposed to proper hoop 'music' I ever have the misfortune to be subjected to: Its not how long a song is, its how long a song feels...and 40 minutes into whatever really grips my s&&t proves itself to be exactly what I call hoop.
14.
Just heard what is probably the worst I've heard in a while. I think it's called thunder, by AC/DC. Boring, cliched and the vocal was like finger nails down a blackboard.
I think you may mean Thunderstruck if I may stick one's oar in.... I used to love DC but the way they have become soooo overused and overhyped etc, they are the same as Dire Straits to me now.
15. Those overly sincere, breathy acoustic cover versions of 80's hits always played behind some crappy advert for something useless or whatever. You know what I mean !!! Horrible.
16. Learned to play to Maiden, Di'anno era.... loved it. Loads of corking stuff to get stuck into, certainly cemented the fingerstyle side of my playing... great fun !! Innocent Exile, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Infinite Dreams, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Charlotte, Invaders, Phantom Of The Opera, we could be here all day !! Pretty much learned the first seven albums.... 'Arry rules !!!
17.
he only said serious money. He doesn't use it because he's a fiver man now. I asked for an idea of money but he just said serious money so I decided not to go there. I've got enough gear and it would have made an interesting story for a magazine and to get both the l/h and r/h reunited but, to be honest, I have found it and it was great to find it. Without the internet it would have been impossible. It's not the first bass I've found using basschat either
Ha ha yeah, see your point !! I'd just would have liked to know what was a serious amout !!!!!
18.
yep it turned up but the current owner doesn't want to let it go. Only for serious money. I'm not sure if older Jacksons can command serious money but I couldn't really justify it. Shame really, as I wanted to buy it when it was at BEM but I just couldn't afford it
How much is 'serious money' ?
19.
Yes Wayne, that's the bass. It was eventually sold through Brixton Exchange Mart but I still haven't found it.
Just looking this up and Im so glad it turned up and how much of a trip is it that it IS the bass from the advert !!! Top stuff !!!!
20. 'We dewnt neeed 'letric, we're 'coustic' said the front man from Half A Sixpence. They are acoustic folk, call your band whatever you want !!!
21.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. EXACTLY !!!!!!
22.
"Thank you, you're a lovely audience, Wayne" don't forget to bring some fans !
They ARE fans !!!!!
23. Worst thing ?? Mic in the teeth. chipped to buggery. More of the same with a split lip. Bloodied nose from (well meaning) stage diving a-holes.... cant tell if the audience is dancing or fighting..... gear failure is another thing entirely haha !!
