Cheers Guys The Bass is now with Arrowhead, I know Paul will do what is required to make the bass as good as possible. Can't wait to get it back ! I've waited 10 week so whats another 2 ! Ade

I bought a Guild B-301 off Basschat about three months ago and it needed a re-fret. So I looked up my local guitar repair people, I had a couple to choose from. Being on a tight budget, I went with the cheaper quote and dropped the bass off and gave him the instructions . . . . that was 10 weeks ago. He said it would take about 2 weeks max, unfortunately during the first 1 week he broke his arm !. He'd started the job so I decided to leave it with him but give him 6 or 7 weeks before I rang him again. After an agonising 7 weeks I gave him a call and he said he was ready to start work again. and it would be ready by the end of the week, It wasnt and he went on holiday for a week with out even telling me !. Once he got back he said I've only got 2 frets to do and the set up, so I gave him another week and went to collect it on Sunday. I was faced with a complete pile of rubbish, the workmanship was crap at best the last two frets looked like they had been put in by a 2 year old, none of the frets had ben levelled and you could drive a bus under the strings ! When I pointed this all out to him, he was surprised and shocked ! He tried to set it up but because the frets were so badly done there was no chance at all to get a bass that was playable let alone a pleasure to play. He decided to let me have the bas back and take no payment, which was fair enough but now I have taken the bass to another local chap (Paul at Arrowhead) YES I KNOW I SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH PAUL TO START WITH , I'M STUPID, VERY STUPID If any one wants to know who the other guy is so they can avoid him, then drop me a PM. So dont go by websites or what someone tells you they can do. Look at their work and speak to their customes before you leave your prize guitar with a BUTCHER !

I'd take the EQ settings back to 12 o'clock and start again Turn off the bright setting too, just use the EQ Is that your wish list or actual basses, 'cos you got some active beasts in there too ! I'm afraid you going to have to sit down and have a tinker at volume ideally. If you have the treble full up un your basses I'd back that off some as well. Finally take all FX out of the loop until you get a tone your happy with then introduce them back in one at a time.

The best review would be to bring a selection of cabs to the next Bass Bash and let everyone test them with the wide range of Amps, Basses and playing styles available along with side by side comparisons with other cabs too One persons opinion is good but a 'group test' would be very useful for everyone me thinks . . . Now when is the next Northampton Bass Bash ?

Chris Wolstenholme from Muse is another Ric player usually with fingers. I've had no 'clank' or 'brittleness' from my Ric sound ever, it all depends on the EQ settings as it does with any bass. I think the 'Clank' is a bit old hat now, probably relating more back to the seventies. I've found mine punchy, full with plenty of bottom and just sounds superb. Infact I was so unimpressed by my USA P-Bass compared to the Ric I sold it to buy a Guild B-301 Rickys are a bit of a 'Marmite Bass' you must try a couple before [u]you make up your mind [/u] Don't let anyone try and sway you either way, it personal taste and half of the people who make comments (not necessarily on Baschat) about Ric's probably havent even owned one !

I had a similar problem . . . . . I yearned for a Stingray when I was young but I could never afford one so I ended up getting a Guild B-301 instead, but thats a different story . . . . Anyway Years later When I was all grown up and could afford such luxury as a Musicman Stingray I bought a used one for £600 I could have cried I was so chuffed . . . . But It was a complete dog to play AND get a decent sound out of it ! it had no guts like you said and it just didnt suit the band I was with at the time. I sounded like Flea playing Rock 'n' Roll ! The main thing is that you have to stop boosting the bass and the treble, instead boost those mids and the punch will come through, probably not as much as a P-Bass but its in there, but I decided to sell mine anyway, must have got a duffer ! I'm back with a Guild B-301 and a Rickenbacker 4003 now ! Happy days

You should normally be offered a replacement within 28 days of delivery date Check their T&C's on the website to see if they offer different terms. Make sure get them to send you a good packing box and that you keep all documentation when the Bass is collected by the courier. What net-shop did you buy it from?

It will be sorted under warranty I'm sure, but it does highlight the pit falls of buying at a distance rather than going to your local ! I'm a guilty as anyone trying to save a quick buck or two !

I'd keep your product range as small and simple as possible. Realistically what is the waiting time for a cab at the moment? Ade
