  1. G+L basses mostly don't have standard neck specs — both the nut width and the radius can vary. So for example, a wide 1¾" nut with a flat 12" radius was a possibility
  2. As someone who likes gawping at Blazers, it looked original to me
  3. Coincidently I was watching some live clips of a few songs from Rio last night. In couple of recent ones, JT was playing his Dingwall. Unsurprisingly, it made a very Dingwally sound, which is to say, not really like his sound on that album.
  4. I have my Ampero Hotone multieffects unit (mostly used for the amp / cab sims + eq / compression) going into a Yamaha HS5 Active Studio Monitor. A good convincing sound, and more than enough volume for home use.
  5. According to the specs, the Dirnt P has a nut that's a tiny bit more narrow than the usual 1⅝", but a thicker neck profile – it's called "Thick C". Also according to the specs archived on the Squier Wiki, it's Artic White over Agathis
  6. Rotosound Daddario and GHS all publish plentiful figures. I've noticed that for rounds, the Daddarios are lower in actual tension than the GHS and Rotosound at the same gauge. However, that lower actual tension doesn't seem to transfer to the feel of the strings, which seem just as stiff.
  7. Time to get back to the proper notation 😐 I used to know the rules for reading those rhythms, but my brain seems to have found forgetting preferable to remembering. Where the tails are, and the direction they're pointed in make a difference to the length of the note, that's all I know now. And that there's a reason why some are in red.
  8. I decided this years ago. No music up to this point. End of the service, pall bearers lift up the coffin, turn to face the exit, stop. Ramones: Commando 110 seconds later, the coffin is carried out in silence.
  9. If you ever need a second set of these, I've got one doing nothing — I really wanted to get on with them, but my dainty touch doesn't bring out their soul. (I won't be interrupting my LB-100's Chromes again.) How I definitely did not sound with them:
  10. The website for Entwistle's gear takes several (very entertaining) pages
  11. There's a G&L Tribute Fretless Kiloton Pickup is in the right place, the selector can be put on Parallel — but there are no active tone controls, and that's an MDF pickup, not alnico. Still, Tribute prices are as they should be for MII. But don't know how many of them have made it to the UK?
  12. Short but very intense love of Maiden when I was 13–14. Then moved on, and then moved on some more. Many, many years later, found that the Killers-era line up (Di'anno, Smith, Burr) still does it for me, unreservedly.
  13. I would love to hear Dolly Parton's seemingly infinite generosity of spirit tackling the challenge of commending the Sisters of Mercy's cover of Jolene
  14. At one point I had one bass, and then it had to go to visit the tech, and while it was there I had no bass, and I thought, I'm never making this mistake again. So now I have two basses, and at the moment one of them is visiting their mummy in California, and I've still got one bass to play.
  15. Wanted a bass when I was 13, but got talked into getting a guitar instead. I had been playing the piano and so on since I was six, so I progressed quickly and at 15 was definitely Good For Only 15. Three guys from the year above me at school asked me to play lead. We did one set of seven covers (Beatles, Pistols, Zeppelin, Van Halen) .... and that was my peak nicely passed lol. Three years later, and I was finally playing bass, but not for any good reasons.
  16. Has anyone tried putting a Kiloton through one of those pedals that contains a clone of the original 2-band Stingray preamp? When I ordered my SB-1, I was deeply tempted by the Kiloton. At time, it was the series setting that attracted me; these days, I think I'd like to have the pickup selector wired front coil / parallel / back coil.
  17. Fairly tense strings gently tickled by a very light touch.
  18. The possibility of someone changing two letters is mentioned in the OP: change two letters and get a Paddington Hard Stare. I changed two letters, I got a Paddington Hard Stare, and I didn't have to write Carter The Unstoppable Sax Machine. It's been worth it.
