  1. If you at Andertons terms you'll see that they supply untouched instruments as standard. If you want it looked at before shipping, you have to request it. If it's been on display, they'll forewarn you. Presumably they've had enough of people complaining of things not being box fresh.
  2. Both times I listened to it, I found Alexander The Great going round my head afterwards
  3. Is there any word that sounds better that this in a Brummie accent?
  4. Chloe. CHLOE! What did I tell you? There's. No. Money. Above. The. Fifth. Fret. Go to your room! I'm very angry.
  5. This is, by far and away, the best P bass I have ever played, this side of Modern Vintage upping their offer.
  6. What he picks up the moment that he's done talking about the bass he's being paid to talk about.... 😊
  7. I resented having to buy something that hadn't come from a Yamaha factory when I bought my P, and my left hand is quite insistent about the difference. But anyway, Yamaha don't seem a very reissue-y kind of company, are they? They always seem to be marching onward with healthy vigour.
  8. And the Pulser 400 while they're at it
  9. My multiplicitous apologies 🙏
  10. Thank you, now I know what to expect I'm just happy to have it out the house tbh.... Right, as we were. Back to Andy and his desire to have owned every 424 ever imported into the UK.
  11. This question doesn't belong here, but I wanted to ask it in a discreet corner. My previous Yamaha has just arrived at B@ss D¹rect. I'm surprised by how much they think its worth, and am just curious to know how they usually play things: price it high and wait patiently for someone to pay that? price it high and then offer cheeky discounts to enthuse potential buyers? start the price high and steadily lower it until it finds a buyer?
  12. The guitar I had as a teenager was a Westone Thunder I-A, too. It has sat in its box since I left school and the neck hasn't moved in the slightest, still plays exactly as it did when I was 15. Shame I decided to fiddle with the electronics... 🙄
  13. I found a good video of a guitarist showing how easy it is to build a sound with this user interface. Skip to 2'25"
  14. I'm always a bit surprised when SSOASS is included when someone's applying a quality cut off. I remember looking forward to it very enthusiastically, doing my best to enjoy it, but eventually admitting to myself that the cliffedge Somewhere In Time had been teetering on had been properly fallen off. Anyway, hearing Aces High for the first time when I was 13 saved my taste in music from the toilet it was seeingly determined to go down, and the following months, hoovering up all their albums, was a very happy time.
  15. I've decided to go for the Ampero – the Ampero One's bigger brother, as GAK are selling it for only £17 more. Another pedal ... a few more knobs ... but most of all: a proper on/off switch on the back! Seriously, that's really what I paid the extra for 😆 It arrives Monday. I did have a good look at the Headrush Gigboard, but decided the extra level of functionality it offers would feel like it was mocking me and my very modest ambitions.
  16. Although the TRBX left six months after the BB arrived, in my head I traded one for the other. One Yamaha for another more suitable. Hopefully in many years time, I'll be like you, and still have the one I ex'd my first one for.
  17. "Even though the design was to have better access to the strings at the base of the neck, the true function of the Scoop was that it improved the instrument’s sustain and resonance properties. It eliminated phase cancellation between the neck and body resonance."
  18. I can scarcely remember the borrowed basses I played on when I was a kid, but the first one I owned myself just set off on its journey to Bass Direct. I'm glad to have finally got round to doing something about it – it has scarcely been touched since my BB arrived in January – but I do feel a bit sad, comparing this moment with the excitement of its arrival. Guess I'm also feeling a bit guilty that such a beautifully-made instrument proved to be one I was not much interested in. Still, back when it was the only bass in my home, it got a lot of attention. And I shouldn't feel bad for rating sound+feel over looks+comfort. Bye bye, Hal PS explanation for its name: PPS bye bye humbuckers, see you on a six-string sometime
  19. GAK selling a red 424x, same price on website and Reverb, £280 delivered RED (I really need to stop picturing that with a white pearloid pg)
  20. Yesterday it dawned on me that the upside of having a pink bass pinched and getting a black one instead is that orange straplocks won't clash 😊
  21. Complete with orange straplocks https://www.talkbass.com/threads/83-stingray.1496380/#post-24815003
  22. These are cheaper than his were - most retailers have them for well over £30 a set, he was doing them at £25 a set, Bass Direct are £22 a set ( + postage)
  23. GHS Bass Boomers. Round wound over hex core, so much more warmth and character than Daddarios, and from Bass Direct a bit cheaper.
  24. I'm having a little think. First of all I wanted to get myself detached from gear4music (I didn't like how you can't phone up the nice shop staff when you've got a problem) My options are another Ampero One from somewhere else, a used Ampero (the slightly bigger version with another pedal) or a used Headrush Gigboard. Or a new Headrush Gigboard!
