How was the parcel looking after this adventure?

I've just had Parcelforce declare my USA G&L to be lost property and sell it at auction, legalised theft.

The instrument I'm sending is worth a third of that; the packaging is vgd; the couriers are carefully chosen. If I still get unlucky, I get unlucky: misfortune lurks around every corner. If I had iffy packaging and a terrible courier, I would be worrying until it arrived. If it were damaged or lost I would be worrying until I got the payout. With what I'm about to do, I feel I've minimised the possibility of misfortune, and I'm not feeling at the mercy of feckless couriers or dishonourable insurance companies: that for me is peace of mind. When I once sold something I couldn't afford to lose, I paid the buyer to come and collect it.

Weirdly, I find having no insurance gives peace of mind: actually getting a pay out is never a breeze, so it's nice that all that palaver isn't a possibility 🙃

Another reason for finding DPD appealing is that in my experience the parcels are treated respectfully the whole way. I've had things from shops delivered by them with nothing added to the manufacturer's packaging, just a label taped on; they've reached me with no more visible wear than if it had just been picked off the shelf and taken to the counter. So I was going to use them anyway, but when I saw that they're also cheaper than Parcelforce, I thought the good news worth sharing

Not fixed, but misunderstood - I meant a more fair comparison with the TRBX604FM would be the BB734, they have the same preamp with 3 band active EQ + passive tone, and not dissimilar prices.

The BB424's victory over my TRBX604 is complete: Bass Direct have agreed to take the TRBX on as a consignment sale and it's on its way to them. Despite the fact that I never got a sound I loved out of it, despite the fact that my thumb gets tired gripping the back of its very thin neck, I'm still feeling very bad about waving goodbye to it, and that's because its such good quality, especially for the money, it's completely without faults. Good weight, good balance, keeps in tune, looks beautiful, active electronics work immaculately. In every respect the 424 feels a more basic object - presumably the fair like for like comparison would be the BB734. Damn you, picky hands, damn you, picky ears. Grrr.

Thank you this is all very encouraging, I feel very encouraged! One thing I was wondering - I know there are a tonnes of presets - to make your own settings, do you have to delete / edit the presets, or is there a section of blank patches? I have an aversion to presets, I like a blank piece of paper.

I found this thread when trying to find info on the Picato nickel rounds. The first I heard of them was just now, browsing Strings Direct for 45-105 sets of Nickel plated rounds. Their packaging still says British Made, and they cost somewhere between Roto Bass and Swing Bass Nickels. If anyone has opinions / observations on them based on recent experience, that would be great

Where I am at the moment, a one setting wonder would be an upgrade. I was so annoyed with the user interface I just went through the generally awful presets until I found one that sounded basically ok, spent a while getting the EQ right, and left it. I'm looking at the Hotone Ampero One which seems to have a good visual interface. Then I can build myself two or three settings, and it'll be a two or three setting wonder and I'll be happy

And all the cab sims.

Here are the 65 Amp Sims. At the end are 5 Bass Amps. In the previous 60, anything for a bassist?
