The only thing I was bit gutted about is that they haven't brought in extra full transcriptions yet. With only one, if you're not interested then there's nothing (beyond some lesson stuff) for you to play. Not interested in Flea really = no transcription for me.

I think what separates your vid from similar metal vids I've seen is lighting. It doesn't look as professional as it deserves to because of the flat daylight running throughout. Something to bare in mind for the next one. Also be careful of doing things that sends the viewer's mind away from the video - e.g. the "borrowed" bit of sword choreography from Troy. All of a sudden I'm sidetracked into trying to remember which film I saw the move in, instead of watching your vid. Hope this helps. BTW your drummer is hot and the music is pretty impressive.
I only have 2 pinkies
Fair point - I have a horrible tendency to use pinkie as a generic term for finger; even though I know it's wrong. Thank you for the book recommendation and exercise tip - I'll try both.
-
Does anyone have any good exercises for creating independence between pinkies 2 and 3? E.g. on this exercise (one finger per fret - trying to keep all strings pressed as much as possible) -------------4---4------------- ---------3-----------3--------- -----2-------------------2----- - 1--------------------------1- On the lower frets, I struggle to place finger 3 in position without it dragging finger 2 over the fret wire. Any ideas? Or is this anatomical weakness. Edit: just noticed I can do it fine descending. So its just the ascending part I'm struggling with.

Friend of mine just texted to suggest Intunegp.com - another yankee outfit. They have one style of the wider picks in black only. Thought I'd post the info in case it was useful. Liking Claytomcustom so far. Cheers Danger.
Have you tried emailing them? I'm sure that if you supplied the picks, they'd be happy to print onto them.
That's an interesting idea. I like the way you think.
-
Seems like a good site, but I don't think they do wider picks (I can't keep hold of regular sized ones). Cheers though.
-
Anyone know where I can get a few oversized picks done with a custom logo? Kinda like these - Its only for me - no band or owt - so I'm not after thousands. None of the custom pick places I've seen the UK thus far have done the wider style.
I am reading the "AB guide to Music theory" This seems to be a standard for most people to learn from. My wife had it from her piano grades. I think there are 2 books one for grades 1-5 and the other for 6-8 or something like that.
Yup. I'm not a big fan of those books to be honest. Contains everything you need to know to start with (1-5 volume) but I don't think its put together too well to really learn from. It always struck me as more of a reference backing to other material (such as the Music Theory In Practice series etc.)... Having said that, its been a while since I looked at them as I lost my copies and haven't got around to buying another one yet.
Just learn this :
... I think I can recognise fewer intervals now than I could before I watched that. I'm tempted to persevere learning that song for some strange reason. -
Singing and Playing..Do you find this hard/easy???
Eight replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Well... I've progressed as far as being able to sing every sixth or seventh word while playing. But then I can only play every fourth or fifth note so it works out quite well. -
So here it is, what do you lot think???
Tis cool. But I'd put a £1 on your guitarist hating it.
I have been learning the intervals however the problem I have is a) testing myself because you know...I know where I am putting my fingers when I play and I don't have a recording devise.
Lol. Yeah that ain't going to work - pretty easy to guess intervals when you know what notes you're playing. Bassist Are VERY Conservative in what they want from a bass
Good reply but too be honest i think one of the problems with GAK which has made me slightly weary about buying there is the fact that just because it says on the site that an item is in stock, there is no guarantee that it actually is in stock.
I hate that - but I've had very recent experience with three other fairly large/popular companies who do the same. -
Yes, but, for a Dean at 600 quid a dozen might actually be ambitious. Would you fork out 600 notes for a Dean bass? Honestly? I though so
Hahahaha. I'm saying nothing. I was tempted actually. But in the end I didn't so... -

I think its probably true. But what can you do!?! - if the numbers aren't there (i.e. not enough people will buy the bass) to make it cost-effective to produce then it can't be produced. Having said that, a thread posted here recently pointed to a Dean limited edition custom jobbie which they only needed around a dozen people to buy (at around the £600 mark) to make it possible. So it is possible... Back to the OP, is it worth doing? Depends on what you're hoping to get out of it - to break even but get your bass out there might be possible. To make a huge amount of money... maybe not. +1 for more unusual basses though. That's where I'd want my money to go... however next on my list is a Warwick (for that tone) but if something different can compete with the sound then I'd be all over it. Edit: I think bassists actually are a lot more conservative overall than guitards. However, this may just be a population thing. More guitars sold + more guitarists means that a smaller percentage of people buying unusual instruments results in a greater number of buyers. Manufacturers seem much more able to try new things with guitars and generate enough sales to survive the experiment. -
Audacity? These days I mainly use it to raise the pitch of a track so that I can play along with my bass in standard tuning. Even if it does mean the vocals become chipmunks. Think it also does the tempo changes - but can't swear to that.
Here, looks prettyu accurate....
+1 Think that's what I'm playing too. Fun track.

Still weighing up whether to take measures to by pass their restrictions. Its one thing looking at a site like this at work, its another thing to circumvent IT procedures in order to do so. Might get a netbook and bring that in instead. That way noone gets hurt.
-
I do play this one. When I get home in an hour or so I'll check where I got the line from. Can't remember if it was in a book or from the net - not sure how accurate it is but I never noticed any major problems.
Yes.
I can't say I have much of an opinion on it really. Just wanted to make sure I understood your point of view.
And unless you plan learning music theory in Italian I don't think there's any point in learning the notes in Italian- I've never come across it being used in the orchestras I've played in (up to Scottish national youth level), being coached by pro orchestral players doing music at uni for 2 years. I think that's the answer to the question you actually asked
Yeah, pretty much. I learned them a long time ago (can't remember why) and never used them at all. Not even once. But my experience of classical music was a little basic really, so I was limited in how far I could apply my personal conclusion on note names.
