I recently bought this here, thinking as a total-effects noob it would be the all-singing all-dancing single multi-effects solution – and it is – but rather confirmed that I’m a stick-in-the-mud plug-in-and-play bassist. The range of sounds is astonishing, especially with the dedicated GK-2B pickup, and to my ear the COSM bass and amp modelling patches are spot on. I won’t go on about what it does as there’s plenty on the net about it, but it’s worth emphasising that it’s a fantastically practical unit for live use – rugged metal case and pedals, rapid access to the 100 patches using the footswitches – you can cue the next patch to be ready at a single press of the pedal whilst still using the previous patch setting. Also incorporates a decent tuner, that can be accessed either via footswitch or a button on the GK module fitted to the bass itself. DI out, so it can be used as a pre-amp in an amp-less set-up direct to desk and / or power amp. In great nick – full system with console, GK-2B pickup, dedicated lead, and manuals. So, you’d like a nice ash body, maple neck Precision. But hold on a sec……. what if it was neck through, with a nice rounded neck heel rather than that awkward boxy bolt-on heel. No more faffing about with neck shims either. More sustain too - in fact bung a brass nut on as well to improve it even more….. And how about an added J pickup at the bridge….be able to mix a bit of Jazz bass bite / burp into that deep P bass growl…. If fact make both p/ups Bartolinis, hi-fi articulate but do the vintage tone too Oh, and swap the BBOT bridge for something decent – how about a Badass? Then lastly…….make it dirt cheap Well, this has been my working gigging bass since completion (see http://basschat.co.uk/topic/166437-satellite-back-in-orbit/page__p__1522939__hl__orbit__fromsearch__1#entry1522939 ), but I’ve got my eye on something else I want - purely from a “band image” perspective. Since the thread above I’ve put in a proper circuit (taken out of a Squier P/J) – so controls are master vol, and p/up blend with centre detent. The passive tone control pot is taped up (set to full) in the control cavity – I never use it, and wanted to keep the front 2-conrtol only, but the potential is there to fit. Also I replaced the control knobs with solid brass for that ‘80’s-tastic look, but if anyone prefers the Bakelite ones I can change them back. Pros; Instantly familiar Fender Precision feel and playability (I’ve got a ’65 P so I should know…) Nice straight neck, low action, very little fret wear. Poly finish in good shape bar a couple of body dings. Tone is just superb ( I won’t say AWESOME - lol – but it is!). Boutique bass territory, no question.. No-one else will have one like this…. Cons; Heavy-ish; I don’t have any scales, but it’s equivalent to an ash-bodied ‘70’s Fender or my old Ibanez Musician One bridge locating screw sheared off. Bridge is rock solid with the other 4, so I haven’t bothered drilling it out. In my haste to fit the bridge Jazz p/up I didn’t drill pilot holes for the locating screws. Result; two sheared off as the wood was so hard. There’s actually just enough play in the p/up-cavity fit to drill new holes just alongside, but as it’s sitting totally stable at just the right height, again I’ve left as is. A couple of screw holes in body for p/up and bridge covers filled in and lacquered over. £160 collected (Swansea) for it with a decent generic chrome “high mass” type bridge (see the pic of unstrung bass) or £200 with the Badass II.. *SOLD* Sorry Shonks for the late edit, thought I'd done.....

If it plays like butter, has mojo by the ton, is a Fender/Gibson/Ricky-killer, and has a headstock break that's repaired to make it even stronger than before and you wouldn't notice it anyway, then I'm def interested..... Trade for some spangles and a sherbet dab?

Fabulous basses, and good price for one of these. I've got no. #23. Just glad it's not the fretless model, as I'd have somehow had to buy it.....

As the Boss said in Cool Hand Luke; "What we have here is a faliure to communicate....." To be fair to vax2002 he makes some valid points, and this is definitely what the trade euphemistically call a "player's bass" - which is great as alomost everyone on this forum IS a player (rather than collector); I've bought and sold many such basses here. Given an all-original '73 4001 would go around the £2K mark, the rather drastic rule of thumb of re-fin halves value easily makes this worth a grand even allowing for a re-fret, and I'd have this in a heartbeat for asking price. Having modded a 4003FL (now chez Beedster) I know the pickups alone cost would cost £400 - and that's for a reissue toaster whereas this is proper vintage. The horseshoe bridge p/up is a hugely desirable mod; this is not only near CS model spec but a proper 40 year old Ric. Donny's an ace guy to deal with too - had my early '73 chequerboard/plexi FG 4001 off him and loving it.

Putting my Eden 410-XLT up for sale; I had this a couple of years ago to pair with my regular gigging head (an Eden VT.40) as a back-line option, but as I DI live using a small compact cab for stage monitoring it's never once been out of the house! USA-built model, rated 700W, 4 ohm, variable tweeter, in excellent nick with Roqsolid cover (which it's always been in) These are lovely cabs, known for being able to reproduce a huge amount of really tight low end (oo-er...) for a 4 x 10". There are sockets on the bottom for the optional removable castors. But bump for a fab rig; I had one of the original '70's 100W heads back in the early 80's - monster tone and cool as fcuk.

Lovely bit of kit!!! At the risk of being thick; how does a sealed cab differ from a standard ported one? (in terms of sound, matching to heads etc)

Well I kind of assumed it's 4u as it looks 4 x taller than the 1u pre-amp........ it's 6 and 3/4" (17.5 cm)tall anyway Did you buy Stacker's v64 Ric then? Tasty........ Edit - now TRADED - thanks

These are supposed to be lovely for amplifying DB too, valve warmth but crystal clear. Yup, would consider splitting as the pre-amps are always in demand and I've thought myself about pairing it with a 1u D-class power amp - would rather sell as a rig tho. I'll see what interest there is in these hard times! The inevitable trip to Cambridge coming up in a few weeks too.... The Ric FL your only electic now? Blimey!

Reviving an old FS thread, as I've now downsized to something smaller - albeit less powerful - as my "all valve" amp option. Would also entertain trades for interesting vintage US basses or guitars, money either way.
