  1. DR to make extra long scale bass strings. Multiscale basses are getting more popular in metal and us metal heads like to have everything black so give us some black strings.
  2. I'll take one of these but with a big switch marked "Lemmy" which replicates his sound.
  3. I'd like an industry standard for bass input jack position so either a 90 degree or straight plug suits them all. A 90 degree is best for my p bass but won't go in the recessed angled socket in my Ibanez so it's a pain in the hole changing between basses. Same goes for pedals for neater pedal boards
  4. Mick Mills is really good. I find his bass lines quite tricky, he uses a lot of weird rhythms. REM have a few great songs but an awful lot I find quite dull
  5. I completely agree about BSSM being their last great album. I'm not sure about Flea, he doesn't seem to know how to play to suit the song. He's still playing those funky bass lines over very middle of the road, forgettable, easy listening rock music with the worst lyrics in the history of music and at least 40 mentions of California per song except that one with black bandanas in sweet louisianna, what the hell does that even mean? Is louisianna sweet? Isn't it the butt hole of the US?
  6. I like Robert Trujillo but not Metallica. His talents are completely wasted with that band. I'm also a bit of a Duff fan but can't stand GNR. He played on an Alice In Chains tribute which is when I realised just how good he is. Really like The Cure but can't stand Robert Smith.
  7. Actually I'd go so far as to say their first album was OK. Their second record was just dreadful but made them very rich so they stuck with the format. Wes Borland (guitarist) has proven with his side projects that he can make really quite decent and interesting music.
  8. I love a bit of Ministry but they should never have covered Black Betty. Everyone and their mum has covered this song and this is not a good one
  9. The title of this thread included "...by bands who should know better" nu metal bands wouldn't have been nu metal if they knew better. Machine Head weren't really nu metal but Robb Flynn is an absolute tool
  10. I just looked at flatwounds. £90 for a five string extra long scale set!
  11. I found I had to boost everything before to get half way to where I wanted it and then cut what I didn't want in the amp which messed with the sounds out of my overdrive pedals. Now I can boost the bass and mid without having to boost the treble which I don't really want.
  12. Yes but options are really limited in extra long scale
  13. Just done this, I didn't get much from it to be honest
  14. Thanks. I'll give that a bash as well Not quite. It sounds "bigger" rather than louder. Like boosting everything on the eq
  15. Here's the video I got it from. He's an odd chap but one of my favourite bass youtubers
  16. I tried a little wiring alteration on my SRMS805 this morning. This boosts the preamp output by 6db. It's sounding a bit less thin without having to boost everything to max. I found out about it through a video by Low End Lobster on YouTube, he did it to his EHB1005 (same preamp) All I did was unplug the wires from the far right block and move them to the next one on the left. The photo is after the change.
  17. @CiciBass keep doing exactly what you're doing. Some of us appreciate seeing and hearing something different. There's a heap of people making videos of traditional playing styles with no effects for those who want that.
  18. Are there any good replacements? I'm guessing there's nothing that will just drop straight in
  19. I have a question for anyone playing modern metal/post metal on an Ibanez with Bartolini pickups. What are you using as a dirt pedal to get a really, clanky metal tone? I'm not quite getting there with a Darkglass B3K overdrive, Cali76 compressor and Two Notes Le Bass preamp. It's just not getting that really sharp bite to cut through the guitars. It worked with my P bass ok but not my SRMS805
  20. Would the people not interested in a sub group scroll past this thread and therefore not click on the poll which will give a misleadingly positive result?
  21. Top tip for jam nights. Learn 12 bar blues and when someone says "who's going to start us off" you get in there with a 12 bar blues.
  22. As others have said, get along to jam sessions. I went to one, it was mostly pop/blues/jazz but I got chatting to one of the drummers there and we're now in a stoner metal band together.
  23. I've been listening to Brutus a lot since seeing them last week at Arctangent Festival. Great band and I've never seen anyone drum and sing at the same time while doing both to such a high level. A seriously talented lady
  24. My wife wants to wear our bands t shirt at a gig and I'm unsure whether even that is acceptable. We will absolutely not wear our t shirt while playing. Me and the drummer have turned up with the same unicorn death metal t shirt purely by coincidence once though.
