  1. People get too hung up on classic line ups of bands and quite often that classic line up wasn't as good as later line ups. I'm a big Faith No More fan and people still go on about Jim Martin but each guitarist after him was better.
  2. Yes I did, at Glastonbury. The best set I've ever seen at the festival. I also saw them on the Rated R tour supporting Foo Fighter with Motorhead at Hyde Park then on the Era Vulgaris tour at Bristol O2 and Reading Festival and then in 2011 at Bournemouth O2. They were amazing live each time but I wouldn't see them again unless they make another heavy record. Songs for the deaf was their peak for me.
  3. I know words - Ministry
  4. Back when they were great. That era of QOTSA was their peak. My daughter is called Flo because we saw QOTSA a month before she was born and they opened with Go with the flow. Lucky they didn't open with Regular John.
  5. Why on earth did you have Take That tickets??? I remember walking past the pyramid stage while Robbie was on and wondering why on earth his drummer had a huge double bass kit and he had two bassists. Didn't seem justified for the music.
  6. Very true although maybe Sunn o))) could play more than a note a minute.
  7. It seems that heavy bands who play fast (Slayer for example) often tune to E or D# but heavy bands who play slow (Crowbar, Down etc) tune low to add weight to their sound .
  8. Charlie says - Prodigy
  9. I agree, Entwistle bass sounded terrible in isolation but with the rest of the band I think it's spot on
  10. I like that, it sounds really good. It's almost a bit like Paradise Lost (Draconian Times era). The low bass really works well with the high vocals.
  11. I'm the opposite there. Rush are about the only early prog band I do like. I do get why some people dislike Geddy's vocals.
  12. I would classify Stranglers as good music.
  13. I'm on a strict diet, no chocolate. A low calorie hug is acceptable. I like many musical things, mostly rock, punk and metal but the odd bit of blues, alternative, and some odd bits of pop (yeah yeah yeas, future islands, flaming lips etc) and even the odd bit of 80's electro. I don't like musicals, jazz, early prog, commercial pop or country music by people called Urban because you can't be country and urban.
  14. I don't find you offensive.
  15. Jeremy Clarkson is a big prog fan. The man knows cars but if you have the same taste as him in music and fashion you need help.
  16. Ghost of Tom Joad - Rage Against The Machine
  17. The two you mentioned, Melvins and Napalm Death don't actually tune all that low. Some of the heaviest music is in E or drop D. Black metal is nearly Al in standard tuning. Lower tunings are great for getting that sludgy sound that bands like Eyehategod and Crowbar use. Quite often where low tunings are used in doom and stoner metal, the lowest notes are used sparingly as a doomy accent. For me, the sweet spot is tuning down to C and some disgusting fuzz on top. I think this is a perfect example of what low tunings can do. He's tuned to B but doesn't often drop below C#
  18. Obviously they were the new wave of post prog
  19. I don't think there's been an argument about who was or wasn't punk for a while. The Clash and Stranglers weren't punk.
  20. Nah that's fine. Radiohead were just a jazz band pretending to be an indie band anyway. I never did like them.
  21. As a Sabbath fan I am deeply upset by that abomination
  22. No one actually likes jazz do they?
  23. I guess A Perfect Circle and Puscifer could be included as well.
  24. If I was in your position I'd be demanding reparations for the crimes of prog rock. Let us never forget the atrocities of artists such as Focus with their yodelling and Yes with their half hour keyboard solos. The only good prog band was Tool.
  25. I'd rather listen to Entwistle but only because I find Yes (and most prog) a bit too serious and dull. For great pick playing, I'd rather listen to Matt Freeman of Rancid. Much more interesting bass lines than anything by Yes.
