  1. In the nicest possible way I can think of I actually wish they'd just go away. Grew up with them, love everything with a passion up until about 84 and have absolutely no desire to hear them hacking thru the blues catalogue just because they can...And without Charlie, well..whats the point anyway.
  2. Whole clutch of chart pop from summer of 76 when I was strawberry picking. Brothers Johnston in particular....Places me right there like it was yesterday. Then a couple years later hearing Powerage for the first time....again I'm straight back there with my first band as we try to learn Deni Deni...Haha grt stuff.
  3. The dep was to cover for his bassist who was on holiday. I left to pursue drums which I'd packed in years ago..It was perfectly amicable, in fact they tried to hang on to me. So at rehearsals he was hugely welcoming and chatty. However he and his wife go back a long way with my recent long term ex and I turned up at gig with my new woman in tow...Maybe it finally dawned on him that he felt some weird conflict....
  4. Haha...should have said one was his daughter the other her friend. But I've known him for years on and off, real friendly guy....There you go.
  5. Depped last summer for one outdoor gig in a band I'd played with before but hadn't seen them for four years. They seemed pleased to see me again and rehearsals went well and the gig was a non event. The vid play back, I sounded pretty good, maybe over played a bit but hey.....and (I'm old but move around a lot too, smiling...I find it easy, but hey) Anyway played the last song, everyone gradually said thanks during the breakdown but the singer kinda avoided me and just wandered off with the two female bk vox. No "cheers for helping us out X..nice playing etc, grt to see you again, must do this again etc"...None of it. Beats me, maybe he got a call or something. Just a bit weird.
  6. Thats right. Wet wild and crazy, totally un-sanitised and here's the best bit and its a bit radical. What you heard out front was exactly what they were playing on stage....Its true but it used to be that way.
  7. Im sorry but that thing by 'The Ministry'? above should have been put down at birth. Get just a tad annoyed when those with no talent at all muck around with great works from the great and the good. Its like punking up a Bach Minuet....why would you do it, what is the cover artist trying to prove? Show the tune and the creator the respect it deserves. Anyway that Manfred Mann version sounds good, never heard it before...Nice nod to the original vibe.
  8. iMazing...works on everything.
  9. Easy, it represents the 70's, the greatest era of music ever. TV Ads aimed at young people playing 70's music, loops, samples..its all 70's. When I got my 120 bass amp in 1978 and 2x15 parabolic bin it was just so flippin cool, and that little funny logo...brilliant.
  10. Lets un-pack this. Bass guitar apart from bongos is about the easiest instrument to play, so you 'can' teach urself up to a point....A lot of peeps have enjoyed a lifetime playing 2/4 down the greasy end, bit of 12 bar and not much else.. and thats absolutely fine and perfectly entertaining. But to learn more and develope you do really need formal lessons which means the teacher must be able to read so as to be able to further the students ability. In a nutshell. Dont start taking peoples money unless u can read.
  11. Plse tel me Im not reading this. R u serious? What is happening to the world? Soon you wont be able to even breath the same air as the opposite sex....think about that....your in a small environment with the opp sex, you wont know what to do......Madness...utter flippin madness.
  12. Sorry to disappoint but the vast majority of pantos are sight read Im afraid. Theatre work is way too involved to be left to memory.
  13. 'A career in music'. Are we talking about being a musician or just working in the industry. To be a pro 'musician' has to be a 100% vocation. It has to be something you cannot live without. I did a lot back in the 80's but even as a younger guy the constant out all night every other nite started to wear on me.....It's a big decision to give up all other opportunities and to do it full time.
  14. I dont mind playing the odd tune that I dislike...but an entire Genre?. Nope.
  15. As a cruiser your clearly a top flight reader...how about then the West End? Go knock on doors, agencys? Knew a guy a while back who did the same major panto year in year out...as well as other shows. I think you have to put it about so to speak. Good luck.
  16. Questionable? Not so sure... tis a cracking piece of disco cheese...however that octave bass line is the devil to play. And how bout those strings?....Tis an extremely well put together tune.

    Wow.

Maybe she picked it because its quite simply stacks better than anything the "kids" are doing today.

    Wow.

Gawd...Is she miming or not?...Bass sounds like it's in the room but synch looks dodgy, latency maybe? Bottom line, if this is legit then she is bloody brilliant.
  19. ian61

    Wow.

Ive just very qiuckly edited my stupidity. C above.

    Wow.

Am I a first rate twit or what? ..haha. Didn't twig she's miming to an isolated bass/vox track??...haha, taken in I was, taken in. It's me age doh.. sorry peeps.
  21. Always only ever had two basses in rotation and that was always one too many. I need to get to know an instrument and for me that can take years. Im not a bad player but plonk me in a guitar store and it's as if Ive never picked up a bass let alone ever played one. Anyway currently playing a CV 70 P bass. Probably the best bass Ive ever owned and Ive had tons over the decades. Its chunky, light and sounds like a good P bass.
  22. Good female rock singers are rarer than hens teeth.. but as you know the great thing about them is they reach those high notes that our heroes could only achieve as young sprogs. From experience if I remember rightly its also a good idea too if said female has a female friend to keep her company. All male rock outfits are a just a tad intimidating. Anyway, keep looking if thats what u really need.
  23. I think the last four mins of this as the mourners leave will cement the day in everyones minds...and I have insisted on it being played very, very loud!
  24. Just play up the neck. Used to do it on Lil L...sounds great.
  25. Probably more to to do with...'cream always rises to the top' my guess.
