As has been said, if an acoustic bass is to be used truly acoustic it won't be heard above a firmly strummed single acoustic guitar! I own a Washburn AB20 bass and it needs to be amplified if played with other instruments; fine for playing by itself in the house but amplification is needed in 90% of the situations where you'd need play an acoustic. However, if it is for that tone and you know you are going to be boosted then I hope you can find one soon.

Handbox Audio WB-100 - new 120w tube head (pics)
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've gigged this twice and I am genuinely gutted that you own it... and I don't! Despite gigging with an amp x6 the power of the Handbox, I never had a problem with volume or authority of tone. Enjoy the amp and if you decide it isn't for you... you know where I am. -
The only SS amp that I can think of that can't be run without a load is the Warwick Hellborg amp, all other SS amps are fine. What amp is it?

Warwick basses - when did they up their game?
warwickhunt replied to Al Krow's topic in Bass Guitars
They do look lush but I see neck-dive written all over that top strap-button position. -

Still looking. Thought I had one last year but the guy had a rush of blood to the head and believed what he'd been told on a Warwick group; consequently the price went from acceptable to down right stupid. Oddly enough none of those offering advice on value would put their hands in pockets and pay the price they'd suggested. -

LOL Looked at this a few times and I think it has been pretty much nailed! 'Personally' I feel the pre 91 basses were generally made from/of better quality woods and materials (other than the chocolate output jacks... buy a Switchcraft and be done with it). Why W can't role the fingerboard edges on new basses is beyond me mind, that would make such a difference. Electrics are pretty much standard now, though I did prefer it when you could have EMG, MEC, Bart, SD even Alembic. Neck profiles are so personal that it's a case of meat/poison; I have to admit to having some pretty skinny neck Wicks but also possess a very full (maple) necked 07 NT Corvette and I love the feel. I agree the whole catalogue is pretty messed up and dilution of the brand has occurred. Replaceable truss rods were a good thing BUT you shouldn't need to do it anyway and tbh the stories grow bigger in the telling, I've had basses with issues (2 out of 40+... is that good/bad ratio) but all are fixable (unlike some manufacturers). Oh and one shouldn't place 'too' much faith in the official emails/info supplied by Warwick... it may not contain 100% accurate info. Finally, never buy a new Warwick; you may as well drive down your street throwing tenners out the window. -

Wire wool or very fine glass/sandpaper, followed by reapplication of wax. There are vids on the net of ways to apply warm/melted wax to natural wax finishes for Wick basses.

Nice. When you do get it Kev, let's arrange to compare it to the Thunderfunk 750... same bloke designed them!

Great amps, in fact (cough) I may have accidentally bought another one myself!

H&K Bassbase gear is top quality; cabs, combos and amps. The Bassbase 600 is a tank of an amp with the highest quality build. Oddly I don't think the Bassbase range has been available for some years so the equipment won't be brand new... not necessarily a bad thing. Their BassKick range isn't quite of the same standard and though I've not tried the Quantum range, I'd trust Luke's observations.

18Volt basses. Do both batteries die at the same time?
warwickhunt replied to TrevorG's topic in Bass Guitars
If one goes before the other it is down to battery quality not what they 'do' as both do the same job in series as opposed to them doing different jobs! -

** SOLD Hughes & Kettner Bassbase 600 Amp ** SOLD
warwickhunt replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
If I could trust a courier not to drop this on its end (and not charge a ridiculous amount) I'd still buy this. Sadly, I bought a HK600 last year and it turned up via courier (in a flightcase) with a bent rack ear and smashed socket which affected use! Luckily paypal refunded me but it was a butt ache that left me wary of the best intentioned courier and/or packaging! Someone will get a serious bargain and if I could collect it'd be me!- 17 replies
