1. SoundControl may well be sh*te (though I'd hasten to add I've spoken to a couple of sensible souls in the Newcastle branch) but so are many retail outlets!

That aside, if SC are still doing the Ashdown Superfly head @ £199, that could be an option. Couple that with a 4 ohm cab and you'll have 250 watts, with the capability of adding a 2nd cab without fear of frying your amp. Saying that much (check first) of the Peavey gear can go down to 2 ohms to and as stated it is pretty bombproof and underrated.

  2. I have a 6x10 that has a smaller 'footprint' than any of the guitarists that I work with. If someone else is transporting your gear that might be slightly different but I bet getting a smaller cab wouldn't save you a vast amount of useable space.

If you must change (as others have said, it is your gear so...) then you could consider something like a Schroeder or a BFM (if you fancy a bit of DIY) which is about a small as you can get and still have enough punch for a standalone cab. The 2 options I've given are just off the cuff and they achieve different results by differing methods but there are options available, you just have to consider 'why'.

  3.
There is a school of thought that you can get rid of neck dive by moving strap buttons around. It looks as if he/she had four attempts to do so.
Absolutely right and no argument on why you might move the buttons, however 20 years of owning Warwicks and a fair few through my possession and I've never had a Streamer with any neck dive!

You've just got to look at the size of the headstock and tuners on a Warwick and you can see that neck dive is not the reason this plonker (or a previous owner) moved the strap buttons around. Wouldn't be too bad if he'd plugged them neatly with wood instead of Polyfiller/PVA glue and sawdust.

  4. ... and some silly s*d needs to realise that manufacturers probably research the best place to put a strap (base and horn). Added to which this seller also forgets to mention the fact that the A string doesn't seem to want to sit in the saddle! I can't believe he did that on purpose prior to photographing it, check out what it does to the string spacing. Warwicks are about as adjustable as you can get so I can't for the life of me figure that one out.

  5.
I have used the schallers in the past, but dont like the way they shake loose and cause the screws holding them in to pull out of the bass. I've also tried the plastic dunlop ones - I had one fly apart during a gig once. Now all I'll use is grolsch washers. I always keep the straps attached to my basses, so they are perfect for me. If only they were available in black or clear.
Ah then it wouldn't look Rock N Roll!

  6. I'm slowly but surely converting my Warwicks to the same type (bayonet type not the style that cup the strap button) and I just bagged a pair brand new on eBay from a shop for 99p. Bet he won't be listing any more using the auction format :)

I agree with the comments on the Dunlop fitting ring (bitch to do in a dark pub with no pliers or similar tool) but I have to say the only near miss I've ever had was with the style of fitting that involves the button and cup fitting. It hadn't quite locked in and on the first enthusiastic move it jumped out but as has previously mentioned that can be put squarely on user error but it's never happened with the male/female bayonet fitting!

I'd sum up by saying that any of the systems (inc Grolsch rings... or bread clips, my first locking device) mentioned have got to be better than no system!

The amount of times my heart has been in my mouth when out guitarists LP has headed for the floor after another strap slip is beyond words (and he's still to bone idle to do anything about it).

  7. Saw this on eBay and it has to be a stunning example of how you can slash the value of an instrument over night...

or in this case, 5 minutes (can't have taken more than that to do all the drilling and chiselling)!

Is it me or does the wood arond the battery 'rout' look like chipboard?

  8.
you think so? don't seems so crazy also the prices i've seen on Uk market are very similar...for example bass centre has a 1983 reissue precision defretted and they are asking 900£!!
and i suppose that all original 70's worth more than an 83...or not?
My concern would be that buyers might be comparing shop prices, as your website does appear to constitute a retail shop.

If it isn't... by anyone's standards, that seems to be an awful lot of private basses sold!

  9. I've a Line 6 Variaxe bass which contains most of the 'tones' that you've mentioned. I have to admit I can pretty much replicate most of the tones contained in that basses armoury (with the exception of the synth & 12 string) using virtually any of my Warwicks (my P/J equipped Streamer Stage I being the easiest to do it with). As mentioned previously; your fingers, where on the string you pluck, muting, string type, EQ setting, pup pan etc can all aid in replicating the tone of virtually any of the basses mentioned. Plus, the actual bass used to house the Line 6 gubbins is no better than a cheap Far East Fender copy, so I'd rather work my way around a better quality instrument's abilities than have a bass that doesn't inspire me.

Oh and aren't I going to look a right 'plum' when I come to sell my line 6 bass in a couple of years and someone reminds me of this piece of writing!

  10.
Thanks for your comments guys, it has a two piece bridge so it is not a standard, I think you might be right with what you have said, although it says the body is afzelia. It was on ebay last week have a look and see what you reckon?

    Thanks

The body wood isn't Afzelia on that eBay listing and I'd be inclined to say that it certainly looks like it could be Cherry (I had an early SS I that had a Cherrywood body and that doesn't look a million miles away).

If the date is correct (mid 90's) then that will be one of the early bolt-on necked Streamers. IIRC they didn't have an LX or any other designation they were just Streamer BO.

  11. Not necessarily my favourites but certainly memorable. Funnily enough some of the basslines that I enjoy playing the most could be considered boring (U2 - With or without you/One, Cameo/Gun - Word Up) but I love putting accents and stresses in different places whilst twisting or embellishing them and I can happily zone out doing some of them!

    Beatles/Jam - Taxman/Start
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain (middle 8/solo)
    Pearl Jam - Jeremy

By definition any bassline is a favourite bassline coz we get to play it!

  12. PayPal is easy but you will be charged 3.5% for its use and you need to set up and verify your account with them which can take time. (I've used it for 4 years with no issues and they refunded me money when a guy I was buying off didn't deliver the goods.

Can't offer advice re. who to use for delivery of a bass (especially if it's a thru-neck) but what I would say is that I've sold multi-tools all over Europe and without exception France has the worst delivery failure rate of ANY country I've ever sent to! Making claims is also a pain in the backside even if you use RM 'International Signed For', as the French system simply blame the UK and vice-versa.

I repeat this is purely my experience sending smallish items via Royal Mail.

  13. Is it just me or has any one else seen this 50th anniversary Fender P bass before (serial number 188 of 500)?

It may even belong to a BCer but I just seem to have a recollection of seeing that serial number being used on eBay at least twice before.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this sale or listing (unless it is a duplicate listing) but if it is the same bass it must be feeling so unloved!

  14. It isn't a Stage I or II, they were out 10 years before the bolt-on range.

Funnily enough the Streamer range was only identifiable by the construction and pups it wasn't badged as a I or II.

  15.
When you say the SSII sits further in the mix, do you mean further back or further forwards?
I can blend into the background more with the SS II than with the SS I in the picture (may have something to do with the Bart's in the I). Obviously I can EQ the SS II to stand out in the mix if I need to but with identical settings the SS I tends to be more pronounced (not talking about volume or output settings here).

  16.
That's a very nice pair! How do you choose which one you're going to play?
Depends which band, what venue and how I'm feeling

The Stage I is a lot more growly and aggressive whereas the Stage II sits further in the mix. I can happily live with either bass but I sometimes get those days when I am getting gear together for a gig that I feel like a certain bass would better suit my mood...

Oh is it just me then and nobody else feels like that :) !
