1.
Oh and I have also heard that Eden stuff has a bit of a reliability issue.
I wondered if any one would mention that!

I considered Eden prior to getting Markbass (prior to getting Thunderfunk) but heard lots of murmuring about reliability issues with Eden (not the Nemesis range but...). I appreciate that you have to consider quantities of amps out there in comparison to the failure rate but when it gets mentioned on bass forums in the States then I frankly started to worry. Didn't one of our own BT/BCers have an issue with a new Nemesis?

  2. A true story (I have many from my years of being a R&R slut)...

I auditioned for a band many moons ago and the auditions were very professionally run over the course of a day. I turned up nice and early and had the pleasure (gulp) of hearing the two guys go in before me and slap and pop there way through 3 songs a piece (wetwetwet, B Adams, Bad Co.). They were phenominal and 'way' better than me. The last guy came out, my turn. I immediately said to the band that if that was the standard and style they wanted I'd save them some time and leave now. I was asked to plug in to the rig supplied and play any way as I'd come all that way.

At the end of the audition the band were looking very serious and as I was figuring out the best way to exit with some semblence of dignity, they burst out laughing and offered me the gig. Turns out that every bassist they'd auditioned had try to out-do the previous one and each and every one of them had slapped their t*ts off during Bad Co. 'Feel like makin love' and they hated it.

I took the job and lasted 3 gigs. It turns out the band wanted every song played EXACTLY as it was recorded. I was asked not to put in ghost notes, double stops, passing notes... If it wasn't on the record don't do it, I couldn't do it!

Moral of the story - Slap has its place and time and make sure you know what you are getting yourself in for.

Sh*te it must be mental in yor hoose! 2 ov y gannin at the PC at once!

    .....

Oh let us be serious, neither of us is very good at this northern dialect!

  4.
Blimey!

I started something here and didn't even have the decency to reply sooner than this - sorry about my shocking behaviour. I'll try to not do that again. (I've been a bit busy recently).

Let me deal with a couple of the points raised:
    1. yes, I'm a woman (let's be honest - a man with the username 'christabel' would be a bit weird! My name is actually Kathryn for anyone who cares)
    2. Simon73 - thank you very much for the birthday greeting (you must be a very nice young man!)
    and....
    3. I took all your advice on board and spent a few hours on Saturday afternoon checking out various amps. I settled on an Eden Nemesis N8 because it sounded the best when I hooked my bass up to it. I'm sure some of you will knock my choice (that's fine btw) but for me, right now, this is the amp for me.

    Kathryn
No-one can knock your choice, the person that does is IMHO an idiot. You've gone out and established for yourself what works for YOU!

If the Nemesis works for you and your bass/style/situation then so be it. If we all had to agree on all things we'd all be living in square boxes, driving electric cars listening to muzak... sh*te not too far in the future then.

  5. IMHO one of 'the' great understated, under-rated basses of the last 2 decades! If ever there was to be a future classic I'd put this above the rest of the Warwick range.

A fine looking example to boot!

  6.
Would you like me to keep an eye on your beer while you go and 'bag' yourself one? :)
Dinna be daft wifee ee can carry a bottle in one hand with oot spilling a drop!

  7.
One agrees whole-heartedly old chap, must go and bag me another one of those female types, one that is unaware of the evils of the internet and is unable to use a keyboard.
Do they make them like that doon sooth?

Explains why you jumped the wire and did off.

  8. +1 for what Jimbo said.

However, remember that one persons neutral/colourless is another's sterile/boxy and a description of full sounding could equally be described as muddy!

Dang, why can't we do as EVH did and describe it in shades/tones of colour? I like chocolatey brown with a dash of fresh cream.

  9.
Cool, get in there bonny lad :)
As a fellow 'run-away Jock', one does have a certain stereotypical image to live up to don't one agree!

  10.
... err, sorry, I meant that I would grab the bargain.. not your good self. It sort of came out wrong there...

    anyway, I don't think I'll be bidding.

    Richard
    VASQUEZ
As it happens I'm fully booked up with grabbing at the mo' anyway.

Go on stick a silly last minute bid in, it would make a nice partner to the Fortress!

  11. Sh*te, don't restore my count! The missus thinks I'm having an on-line affair as it is!

Doing wonders for my sex life though... she seems to think she has something to prove, bring it on.

  12.
Hahaha yes, let everyone else be put off and I can grab a bargain....

Looks OK to me, I'm gonna ask him for some history and the serial number.

    Richard
    VASQUEZ
Feel free!

Regardless of whether the buyer is genuine or not I have no ulterior motive, I've no interest in it.

Serial number will be on the back of the headstock and should end in a date prefix later than '95.

Added to which... why would I flag it up on this site anyway? Surely I'd keep quiet and snipe a bid at the last minute.

  13.
I'm worried now...

warwickhunt should be sending me a Bass this week when and if he gets the letter with the money in it... :)

I know we've all heard the jokes where mail labeled "Photos Do Not Bend" have arrived bent in two with "yes they do" scrawled on them and "Fragile Glass" has arrived all broken with the note "yes it really is" written on it...

I'm beginning to suspect the workers do not give a flying fig as they know it can't actually be traced back to them for them to be held responsible... they can always blame the machines or say it was like that when it got to their stage...

Think it's time for someone like Which to do a reliability study of the various options for large items... especially relevant as so many people are now shopping via the internet...
Hi Paul.

Just got in and your letter is here, at least Royal Mail got that bit right!

I priced this to go via 'senditnow' (PF), after all that has been said do you want to think about other arrangements or are you happy with that?

  14. I needed a quick musical fix and I think this particular clip on the tube was interesting as I was more attuned to the dynamics between the musicians and the restrained playing while fellow musicians soloed than I was in the 2 minute bass solo that started approx 6 minutes in. Did it inspire me? Yes but only to play with the other lads in the band!

  15. The bassist in question is one of our very own BCers I believe.

TBH Homer I started bass when I was 14/15 and I p*ssed about making noises, eventually figuring out a bit of a 'Jam' song and it went from there. Got into a band at 17 and became a R&R slut till I was in my early 20's. At that age I was winging it and learning from everybody (I hung about in rehearsal rooms and answered every ad for 'bassist wanted'), I was probably (no, definitely) better then than I am now! When I was honest enough with myself to realise that I was never going to be a rock star I settled down musically and I'm more content.

I saw Doug Wimbish do a clinic many moons ago and I almost felt like taking a string or two off my bass as I'd never be that good but that isn't the point. I see things like that now and I can smile now and genuinely admire the playing and it does inspire me to pick up my bass but not to try and copy it, simply to try and do something a bit better or smoother. At this point in my life, seeing or hearing other musicians (not just bassists) play simply inspires me to try 'something'... and that 'something' isn't always music; art, photography, you name it.

    Good shout Homie!

  16.
I don't know a thing about Warwicks so it looks just like any other to me, what is it that makes you doubt it. warwickhunt?
The bass looks fine, my concern is that anyone selling a quality instrument (£750) that puts absolutely no detail about the bass and 'worse' lists it in the acoustic guitar section is either very daft or there's a rabbit away somewhere!

    Think about it!

Would you list it like that?

The other point I am raising (and wondering if any other regular eBayers may be able to help me) is that I believe I have seen those exact images being used on another listing in the last couple of months. I could be wrong as they are the kind of shots that any seller might take and many Warwicks look like that but there is something familiar about those particular shots. Also, feedback ratings are important but accounts are hacked into and hi-jacked all to frequently.

Of course I could be wrong and someone may well get a bargain, I'm merely flagging it up so that potential buyers who frequent BC can ask the appropriate questions of the seller.

  17.
Can you exchange the drivers with each other in the meantime (changing positions and wiring connections) just to rule out another point of failure?

    Steve
Good call. Shame it didn't reveal anything!

So it definitely sounds like you have driver failure of some form. With no input into the cab (no amp etc.) is there a scraping sound when you 'gently' push the speaker cone/coil backwards and forwards?

  18. Tread carefully as I'm sure I've seen these images used before.

Added to which the guy isn't giving a lot away in the description and it is listed under acoustic guitars!

  19. Just a thought!

You mentioned that one of the 4 handle internal retaining nuts (probably not the most accurate name but I've seen enough driver mountings to know what you mean) was missing. It hasn't by any chance come loose and been attracted/magnetised to the back of the driver, possibly putting a nick or tear in it. I'd expect it to still be lodged there but you never know! Either way that fixing may still be inside the cab, so I'd try and find it.

  20.
I like the sound of that but 3ohm or 6ohm according to the website spec? That's rather unusual, I'd have thought
Unusual but not problematic if you are only buying/running a single cab, asin my 6x10. Obviously 3 ohm is a no no if you have an amp that will operate at 4 ohm minimum (ie most amps). However the 6 ohm option is fine unless you intend trying to add another cab! As a stand alone cab I don't think you'd be able to perceive any difference in output between a 4 ohm and a 6 ohm cab, especially as the Tech cabs are a lot more sensitive than most 4ohm cabs. I certainly can't tell any difference whatsoever, I'm not having to turn the amp up any further then when using a 4 ohm cab.
