I think you hit the nail on the head... look for some Peavey gear!
We are still using a pair of 1x15 Peavey Hi-Sys II's that we got as our first band purchase 15 years ago and other than 1 blown horn/tweeter, they are bomb proof (just like their amps). -
I think features wise I would gravitate towards the TF.. but I haven't heard the black cat in comparison. From a power output point of view, the BC gets the vote though.
Tough one there! They are definitely two amps I would love to try out with my gear, certainly!
There you have it!
The TF has more potential tone control (though the Tech comes into its own as the volume/gain are increased) BUT I have never ever needed to use the parametric tone controls on the TF, I run it flat with tweaks of the filters. The Tech has more potential output BUT I run a single 6x10 6 ohm cab off it so I will never utilise the extra power, The TF gives me exactly the same output!
Hey Dood if you were close enough or just happened to be visiting you'd be more than welcome to blast through them (I have access to a private rehearsal space day or night). I can only begin to imagine the possibilities with both of our 6x10's and a 2x500watt output -
Thats quite a pair of amps there! I'm just salivating at the thought of 'em!
Cheers Dood and don't I just know it... that's why I'm struggling to decide between them! -
I'm seriously unable to decide whether to sell my Thunderfunk or Tech amp so I've decided to put a feeler out to see what interest there might be in the Tech amp. I'm not trying to mess Chris_b about who has said that he'll take the TF but I need to see if there would be any interest in this amp before deciding (tone wise I can't split them). It has 6 Speakon outputs that deliver 1000watts into 8 ohms or 2 x 500 watts into 4 ohms each side (effectively you can drive a pair of 4 ohm speakers @ 500 watts each side). 3 valve preamp with passive tone controls, these really only come into there own when you start to drive either/and/or the front end and/or the output! I can supply better pics as and when I can find where the missus has hidden the camera. If you need any info send me a PM or look on the Tecamp or Tech Soundsystems websites.
Cheers
Does it really matter??
Does anything really matter? Ever! -
Unfortunately for him, in this case the parts aren't worth more than the whole!
A 1U space in the top of the cab (combo)... t*t! -
How long till this gets pulled? He even says 'NOT Rickenbacker' in the title. Now that is a quick way for the Rik Police to get on your case!

I haven't broken a string in 20+ years, last time I did it was like Alex said at the bridge saddles on a copy bass!
More problematic for me over the years has been dodgy jack sockets. I've never had one fail completely in one go but I have to admit it's sickening when you are mid-song/set and you get that sudden total loss of bass as the socket momentarily shorts out! In those rare and sickening moments the thought has flashed past, 'why the fook don't I bring a spare'! A quick extra wrap around the strap to jam the jack in a convenient working position and then I then replace the offending article with a Switchcraft and forget about it till my next bass fails. Oh yes that does indeed mean that the only real issue that I have with Warwick basses is/was the quality of their barrel jacks. -
Dear me who can possibly say with any kind of straight face that there aren't differences between Streamers and NS2s?
-
Nice 'Bargains'!
I'd love to try an older Spector as I have to profess that the new USA Spector that I tried recently left me entirely unimpressed! The whole bass had a feel to it of not quite being finished off. -
Beautiful bass mate. Just a word of advice - 'offers' doesn't seem to work well around here for some reason. You'd maybe be better off just asking for what you want for it. I know it's not always easy or fun to do, especially if you're attached to an instrument...
Good luck!
And have a bump!
Like the man said nice looker.
I love Streamers but requesting offers that are 'not' based on regular Warwick prices is possibly going to find this bass being bumped on a regular basis by the loyal Warwick fans on here but ultimately may not get you many offers, though I bet you will get PM's from people asking what you want for it!
It does look smart and if it was a 4 string fretless at a regular Warwick price I'd be over the border in 15 minutes! -
Unfortunately I'm going to be smashing this up for firewood after the weekend so does anyone want it/them?
-
Out of interest I checked out your link, I don't want to be seen to be telling you how to sell something but... From a totally objective viewpoint the fact that your warning people about the distortion and it's all for the sake of a £2 Duracell, that screams problems to me! If indeed the battery is flat (I'd be surprised that it's causing distortion), for the cost of a battery why not replace it and put prospective buyers minds at ease.
There are plenty of bidding apps out there, that will allow you to submit a bid right up to the last second. Thats how most people are getting in with a win. I *think* there's one called something like auction sentry??
So do these bid sentries basically mean that you can place a bid through that application and it will guarantee to submit it in the last second or two? No more sitting around waiting... kind of takes the fun out of sniping a bid! -
Let's bombard him with low offers. I'll give him a fiver for it
Though he is entitled to put it up for whatever price he wants, I think we all agree he's a t*t for imagining it's worth that! I would still genuinely want to ask him why he thinks it justifys that price tag. -
Some people never learn!
-
I'd agree he didn't do himself too many favours with no reserve but to be honest I think the listing title wasn't as bad as many I've seen and it was in the corect category. I think you'll just find that it is one of the worst times of year to try and flog a bass! Everyone's finances have taken a battering over the holidays and most people are too skint to buy which just happens to coincide with many people offloading gear they don't use to pay off their holiday credit card balance... result loads of gear with no buyers; a recipe for bargains.
I've personally watched a brace of Warwick Streamers go for less than £650 and a couple of MM Sterlings ending (with no reserve) for less than £500 (one for £425 inc carriage). I'd have had one of these in a flash but I'm holding out for the right bass in the right finish with the correct hardware etc. I might kick myself for not nabbing one of these bargains but I just know as soon as I buy something that my ideal bass will come along.
The market will steady down after the next pay cheque or two go into accounts... just in time for the post-Christmas bonanza! -
Blimey. Seeing it in that case shows just how small the body is compared to a P or J.
Exactly! It also highlights where the upper bout strap button is placed in relation to a Fender and why 'some' people don't get on with them. -
I was just starting to think that at last Epifani are being used by more and more people. then i realised its just the same two cabs being sold and brought on Bass Chat ;-)
Ha Ha! This is so true of much of the top end gear (basses and amps/cabs). We do tend to like keeping it in the family, eventually most stuff finds an owner that makes it a keeper. I had a Zon Sonus that had 3 previous BW/BT/BC owners before me then it went from me to another BCer and I'm just waiting for it to come back up again! -
Reminds me when someone got a '94 Thumb NT for about that price when I had literally bought one the other week for a lot more.
But hey, at least I'm happy to see people get a bargain.
It is great when people get bargains (especially if the 'people' is you) though I seriously had to sit on my hands as the last seconds ticked away on that Warwickhowever I already have about the best Stage I I'm ever likely to need so another would just end up getting sold on after gathering dust for a few months! It would have been a laughable easy profit but I'm after something interesting as a keeper and you can bet as soon as I had bought the Warwick a dream bass would pop up
-
No... but do tell!
Someone snagged a tasty Streamer Stage I for £550ish off eBay (see the eBay section in sales/wants) and I assumed as I'd flagged it up on here someone might have nabbed it! -
Cool...
I was looking at the SWR 2x10 in the for sale section (200w 4ohms) because its quite local to me.
Headwise, I've been offered an Ashdown ABM 500 EVO II at a good price, but am starting to think it might be a bit too pokey for the cab...
what do people think?
Alex.
It really is difficult to generalise Alex but the Asdown into the SWR should be absolutely fine; however, follow the advice given previously by (the other) Alex... listen to your equipment.
Ensure none of the gear is exhibiting nasty noises before you even start using it but I'd like to hope that if the seller were an established user of this forum (check feedback) then they'd be upfront about any issues. -
Anyway it's early days yet. Is there anything else I should be considering with a similar tone?
I doubt you'd find anything with a similar tone to a Thumb, especially when it has those EMG soapbars fitted!
You do realise that there's about a 99.9% chance that he has had that bass routed for those pups, they won't be original. I've seen a multitude of Thumb basses however the 5's have had (as has already been said) EMG Bart SD MEC in that position but they have all (without exeption) been Jazz style pups. I'm not saying it's a bad mod' but it will give it a distinct tone and resale appeal... I'm not struck on the aethetics.
If you are serious then I'd say you'd be doing yourself a big favour to go and give it a blast before parting with your money as they aren't everyone's cup of tea both tone and balance/fit wise. If they are your kind of bass then it's probably not worth looking at anything else. -
Problem with getting anything to use as a practice amp/combo for guitar AND bass that may/may not double up for bigger stuff is that you rarely get the best of both worlds and often end up with the worst of each!
I tried a GK MB bass combo some years back and whilst fine for the house it never did cut it live (either bass or guitar), just about coping when mated with an extension bass cab... in which case I may as well have been using my bigger separates (amp and cab). I quickly established that a small unobtrusive guitar combo (Tech 21 60w 1x12) could cope with bass duties in the house and I could then use it for it's true purpose (a dedicated guitar combo) when the need arose. My bass gear is then solely dedicated and focused on being bass gear.
Just my thoughts you understand!
