1. Selling or buying loads of low value items is no sure fire way of building a good rating and gaining a buyers trust. I am more wary of someone who has done that than I am of someone who has joined eBay just to sell one expensive item!

There isn't a guaranteed way of becoming a good eBayer other than to give a full and detailed description, with possibly a range of appropriate pics and invite people to try before they buy or at least give the option to collect. If you are new to eBay and intend buying an expensive item contact a seller and tell them so, possibly giving them a contact number to show you are serious.

    'No reply'... 'No buy'! IMHO

  2. Just my 2p worth.

I wouldn't bid and pay by bank transfer for this item, 'period'.

It doesn't look great looked at as an outsider, especially if his previous sale of a bike went to someone in another country. However the guy could have made a spelling mistake with his destinations and people can be registered in other countries yet living/working in the UK.

All in all not even worth considering unless you get the confirmation that you can collect and pay cash. I would add that I wouldn't go and buy/pay on my lonesome! Take a mate (or two) you just never know.

  3. Why do people always assume valve = big fat sound?

I've owned a Boogie 220 and a 400+ and you could cut glass with the tone from both of them (regardless of which bass I put in the front end). Yet I've had SS amps that have been silky smooth and buttery!

  4.
Just had an email from Bass Merchant too! Mike and the boys have built a cab or two recently, so I think I'm going to have a look at those too!
Keep us all updated.

I spoke to Mike on the phone (pre 6x10 purchase) and he came across as a really nice guy!

  5.
Likewise mate! none of those manufacturers build anything even close to what I am after. So I have a choice of buying blind (and I realise that there are one or 2 makes that I cant go wrong with) OR, what might be fun is to see if I can figure out a design and ask our resident cab builder, JPJ if he fancies a new project! ;o)
Luckily JPJ is no more than 10 mile from me, so he may also be commissioned to do a bass bin for our band!

  6.
It maybe a case of having to buy one and try it out.. then sell if it doesnt do what I want. The major issue with living what seems a thousand miles from.. well.. any other habitation!
I know what you mean. Even though Newcastle is 20 min away the only choice there is Asdown, Peavey or Ampeg!

  7. You seem to be veering toward mixing your driver sizes Dood, 15s seem to be featuring a lot, is this a new direction for you?

Just out of interest since selling the Techs have you bought anything to replace them?

  8. Warwick did a bunch of 8ers back in the late 80's early 90's. That one was hand built/painted for the bassist from Euro prog rockers KRAAN.

Great bass but a bugger to fit into a covers band set. Worked fine for Pearl Jam and Cheap Trick (with a chorus) but did bugger all for Robbie Williams and The Beatles.

I sold it on the 'Bay and can't for the life of me remember where it went (it didn't leave the UK despite masses of interest from the USA and Europe (not the band...)).

  9.
Stunning! Could you tell me a little more about that Dolphin? What year etc? What are they like?
Dolphin is an '88, very versatile and comfortable but a 'very' wide neck for a 4 string (44mm at the nut if I remember), surprisingly this actually makes it a doddle to play!

  10.
nice collection!, love the old streamer far left, and the custom looking one 2nd from the end!
Thanks.

Far left is an 89 Ltd Ed with single Bartolini MM pup and ebony board

Black one is an 88 SSII custom finish with straight tuners as opposed to angled

  11. I use the BOSS Octaver, which works fine down to middle C but 'can' struggle tracking lower. Turn down the 2nd (lowest) octave for better results.

Oddly I considered getting a better unit but came to the conclusion I prefer the tone of the Boss, you just have to work around it rather than fight against it.

  12. New site, fresh start.

Is it possible that we could flag up any potential eBay fraudulent/duplicate or general scam listings and the devious tricks and dupes that the toe rags use?

It isn't my intention that this be a turned into a witch hunt but it's hard to run a thread without identifying individual miscreants. However, could we refrain from simply flagging up individual eBayers who we think may be a bit pricey or who we may have an axe to grind. It would be really useful if BCers could relate any personal experiences with scammers.

I tried copying over the thread from BW/BT (RIP) but I'm a numpty and it wouldn't post!

  13. Not likely that anyone in the UK would bid on this item but if you are considering it be aware that the picture on eBay does not relate to this seller's item!

That pic' was used by a UK seller months ago, so you may want to ask questions.

  14. In simple terms...

The physical bridging thing is internal to the amp and usual set with a switch on the amp, it combines the outputs of a stereo amp to a single higher powered output.

I've never found bridging an amp that useful as they bridge to an ohmage that is normally greater than the cabs you are using i.e. most bassists have a 4 ohm cab or pair of 8's (giving 4 ohm) and if you bridge a typical power amp it bridges to 8 ohms. Hence you can only use one of your 8 ohm cabs NOT the 4.

That is a generalisation but if you are going pre/power you may as well get a power section that can drive each side of the output at the kind of wattage you need.

  15. Is it as easy as cutting and pasting from BT?

    Let's try...

    Nah, had to edit!

I've only dealt with great people since trading on BW, but warickhunt is the best guy I've dealt with by far. Arranged special delivery for me to ensure I got my package on time, and when I unwrapped it, it was as if I bought from a store.. even gave me advice on what settings worked for him and great communication throughout. Wouldn't hesitate in the slightest to buy from him again, definitely recommended. Cheers!

It's been an absolute joy to deal with John. I had a long and very pleasant chat
over the phone, everything was handled speedily and the packaging can only be
described as a labour of love. I'd be happy to do a deal with John any time, and
I can't recommend him highly enough. Top banana! Hopefully we will get the chance
to meet up one day so I can thank him in person.

Friendly straightforward transaction as discussed - no probs!

John's a great guy to deal with - I always find it refreshing when things go as easily as they did. A really friendly and smooth transaction made all the better by some good online and phone chats about the vaguaries of bass buying! Looks like the hunt continues however John!

  16. The bass has no more or less output than a guitar so you can't destroy it unless it is cranked and you whomp away on the low strings. Keep it turned to low to moderate volume and it'll work but it'll just sound cr*p... unless you are trying to get an overdriven sound. Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick used bass and guitar amps with his 12ers but he had separate outputs for different pick-ups etc. (never got my head around if that could actually make any difference).

It has been asked, what is the purpose of the guitar combo?

  17. Can I vote multiple times if I own multiple basses?

    <EDIT>

Obviously not! So I'll just say...

Warwick, Warwick, Warwick, Warwick, Warwick, Warwick, Warwick and ummm a Warwick.

  18.
how much are these bad boys?
One UK distributor/supplier is SHX Music. Never dealt with them but they carry stock. WoT's cab retails @ £802 for the light version (£759 standard) but I bet you could haggle!

    http://www.shxmusic.com/schroederproducts.htm

WoT kindly let me try his cab and though I am notoriously difficult to pin down about describing an amp or cabs tone, I can say that this think can be heard from wherever you stand in a room and so long as you aren't leaning against the back wall it appears to throw a 'consistent' tone to every part of the room (i.e. sounds the same @ 3' as it does @ 30').

  19. I remember The Jam from the first time around and BF did indeed use a P bass and in the earliest days a Rick copy (Ibanez I believe...). Don't think it said in 'Jackie' or 'Smash Hits' what his bass rig consisted of :)
