Youve Never seen a koch in the flesh?...........never seen koch for sale?.......looking for secondhand koch?......Im still laughing now!,that could have been part of the problem, not a great name for sales purposes.why didnt he call it dolfin amps and cabs, surely theyre marketing guys must have known?.Finbarr Saunders would have had a field day with this!.Fnarr Fnarr!
Oooh Matron! You are naughty! Shut that door!

  2. I recall Koch produced a range of bass amps and cabs back in the 90s but for the life of me I've never seen one in the flesh or for sale, anyone any further info. I'm aware that Dolf Koch produced the Sadowsky amp but it's specifically his own brand I was wondering about, nothing on the website other than the guitar stuff.

  3. I'm hoping when the paint is off that it will be maple with (fingers crossed) a bit of flame, as many of the early Warwicks did (this is an '88). In which case it'll get a sympathetic oil/wax coat. Worst case is that it is fairly plain in which case my favour colour is amberburst. Now... saying that if it were flame and it was finished amberburst! Aaaargh.

  4. After consultation with a couple of guys who are starting up a guitar/bass building business in my home town, I've decided to have the finish stripped back on my Warwick 'Helloween' Streamer bass.

Here's a pic of the bass as I received it a year ago and I'll hopefully post more pics as we go along.

  5.
And the ones I currently own:

2005 1978 Fender Jazz. Black. My soul bass.
2006 Aria SB Elite II. God I love it. Best passive sounds I've ever heard.
2006 Zon Sonus fretless. A great, great neck. More mwah than you can shake a stick at and weirdly slappable too.
2007 Zon Sonus fretted. Flame maple top. I knew it would be good and I was right. Seen once or twice in the for sale section of Bass Talk.
2007 Sadowsky MV70 Vintage Jazz. A bit better than the last maple-board Jazz I owned 23 years ago :)

    Jones
Not often I regret selling a bass however I still have pangs of regret whenever this one is mentioned!

  6.
What model is it? Got any pics or links? I've not heard of an 810 combo!!! WOW! Congrats!
Didn't Ashdown release an ABM 8x10 combo, endorsed by Mark King?

  7.
The bad news is that I'm not at home at the mo so I cannot take pics.

The good news is that it is configured Vol/Bal/Mid/Trebleandbass - so that is 4 pots. It is actually pretty small and would fit in anything with a control cavity bigger than a Jazz; obviously you would need to figure battery compartments in as well. The actuall guys are wrapped in heat shrink and are approx 4"x1". Obviously I will measure and photo and stuff so that people know before sending me their £

I guess Mr Hunt is first in line followed by Mr TPJ
That's different then! Should be plenty room in a Warwick cavity and the battery is already routed. If you could get me a pic and some brief measurements, inc' pot depth into cavity and shaft diameter if poss' as I'd hate to have a wobbly shaft :)

  8. My original query... is it a Fender or Squire?

Technically if this comes from the same factory that Fenders and Squiers were being made in Japan and it says Fender on the headstock surely regardless if it was for the export market or not it is a Fender not a Squire! Added to which, the seller is located in Japan so the bass was never exported, hence it is a MIJ Fender Jazz bass... Yes/No?

  9.
There's little difference between a Jap Fender and a Squier from this era, as far as I know, certainly in terms of quality.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought Fender Japan were making instruments just before they were made available in the West (specifically Europe, initially). They impressed the head honchos at Fender so much that they were then exported, with a Fender logo for the first series and later with the Squier logo. Domestic Japanese instruments followed suit with the logos.

The most confusing thing in terms of domestic squiers is that they were available in a wider range, and at a variety of price points - although I think that affects guitars more than basses.

The squierjv.info site has a lot of information on JVs, both domestic and export.
As you rightly state Musky, common sense dictates that there will be no difference between the Jap 'Fenders' of the day and the first series Squiers, as they were surely made in the same factory by the same employees. However, common sense doesn't apply when applied to the pricing of guitars, especially 'collectors instruments'. As it is, a large Fender/small Squier logo bass is worth more than a genuine Jap Fender from that identical period. Regardless of which is the better player!

£88 is a lot of cash for a lead!.Us mere mortals ,have had no problems with planet waves leads............ so far!(considerably cheaper)

+1 for OBBM though (any freebies?)............always worth a try!
I've never gotten on with those Planet Waves after one absolutely refused to insert into my bass! The sprung sections just refuse to fit; only with this one bass so I have to concede you could blame the jack socket but I've never had an issue with any lead in that particular bass before or since.

Not the end of the world I know but... if you're buying a lead you expect it to work!

  11.
Can any of these multi-track,as to intergrate loops as and when I please?

    (Think Frippatronics)
I'm not an expert but if you mean by that can you layer tracks over the top of your original loop, then yes the AKAI does that... and with ease, as many times as you like. However, if you wish to erase a track you don't like then you have to erase all back to the original loop (which is still saved until you wish to erase it).

  12. I had a Warwick Streamer 8 for about a year, previously owned by the bassist of KRAAN, sold it on as it was just too... unusual. Cheap Trick bassist Tom Petersson used an 8 string a bit on early recordings even though many thought it was always a 12 string (which obviously he did use as well). Lovely overtones from an 8 (or 12) but they are very band/song specific.

  13. +2 OBBM

The guitarist and I bought a whole bunch of patch, speaker and guitar leads from him. No issues from either of us and the same price as a standard lead from a shop but you get custom lengths/colours delivered to your door.

  14.
I wonder what it sounds like if there is no active circuitry? You gotta love the simplicity of it, like the G&L SB2...nothing but volume and all passive.
I thought all MM basses needed a battery? It does look like you might be able to fit a battery in the control compartment on the back!

  15. That is a puzzler because it does look like a MM Sterling body (heel chamfer, contours, neck pocket) but I've never heard of a production bass with 1 control! It also doesn't look like the body's been capped to cover the control holes, as the rear of the body doesn't even have a cavity cover (just the battery cavity). There appears to be a bit of lacquer chipping on the rear of the body which you'd think would have been covered/fixed had it been modded/refinished.

Really don't know what to make of that!

  16.
Which audio programme are you using with the Tascam? It should appear as a audio in device on any audio track, you may have to select it in preferences.
It came as a bundle with Gigastudio 24!

However running this doesn't appear to let me record, it gives a message that this is a feature only available to the higher spec product (so what's the point I ask).

Are you aware of any a free/shareware products that will let me record?

  17.
Good stuff, would have been better had Bowie not been singing!! :)
No you aren't serious, hence the wink!

I knew she did backing vox but I just wasn't aware that she did lead vocals, stunning.

Glitch! that's not a glitch, in our band that'd be called... 'jazz'.

  18. Or more accurately 'why the f*ck won't this work'!

I'm trying to record some sound-clips for a fellow BCer so that they can hear my Parker Fly (for about 3 freakin' weeks) however this Tascam is having none of it... and I mean nothing!

I installed the software, rebooted then plugged in the unit via USB (front and back of the PC) and I can't even access any VDU on the PC as the only interface I can find is the bloody tuner (which works, so I know I'm connected). Nothing in programmes, nowt in control panel (other than uninstall, which I've tried), nadda in My Computer. Is this hiding away in some strange directory that I can't access? The CD manual gives nothing away.

I really am getting to the point where I'm becoming paranoid about PCs and installing stuff (hence my ask in 'off topic' about routers).

  19.
Anyone help me with some info on Ashdown Superfly heads please? On their spec, they say the head's 250w x2 rather than 500w. How does that work then? Can I get 500w out of it with my 4 ohm cab?

Also Soundcontrol are knocking them out at £199. Is that a good or a great price?
You won't get 500w into your 4 ohm cab, you'd get 250w with the option of adding another 4 ohm cab to get 250w from each.

As for price... There are cheaper options out there and several people have voiced concerns about reliability but TBH 250w or 500w it is a lot of amp for £199. It wasn't so long back that £199 would have bought you some hideous Chinese no brand cr*p... Oh sorry that is Ashdown isn't it!
