1.
All the best with the sale on the heads, I would keep hold of the TF. Would you be looking at something else if you sold both?

    Good luck bud,

    Robbie.
Cheers Robbie.

Until yesterday I was keeping the TF! If and when one sells (+ the Ashdown + my H&K 250) I'll be keeping the other... at least that's what I'm telling the Mrs :)

  2.
Are you keeping the Tech head now then?
I am reduced to the point where I am losing the will to live trying to decide between them :)

I genuinely think they are both stunning and have their own unique pluses (no minuses for me; though you could nit-pik and wish for the Tech to have 1000w @ 4ohms and the TF could have a slightly better mute system), they do sound different but I could happily live with either... Ahhhh here I go again.

I thought the decision was made for me the other day as I had a buyer for the Tech. Unfortunately circumstances conspired against my buyer and he was left without the funds to purchase. I've agreed to hold the Tech amp for the potential buyer for a few days, so won't be offering that to anyone else at present but in the meantime if anyone wanted the TF then that would have to be that.

I even have a bloody SoundControl Superfly sitting in a box that I bought as a back up or for the band to use for monitors but that hasn't been out of the SC carrier-bag never mind the box!

    Something has to go!

  3. I've found that it pays to experiment. I've had amps that sound better with effects placed before the amp and yet I can't even do that with the TF which has to use the effects loop. My pedals sounded better in the loop of my H&K but the Tech amp sounds better with them in the front!

Not trying to be condescending but there is no absolute 'right and wrong' just go with your own judgement.

  4. Is it possible to put the pedal through an effects loop on the amp? My TF 'HATES' having pedals in front of it (bass > pedals > amp), giving feedback through my gear and PA and is absolutely fine when effects are in the appropriate loop.

Ah Ha... just reread the post and you were referring to the Tech amp!

Simply awesome! 3 valve preamp with an EQ system based upon the classic passive Alembic preamp going into a 1000 watt digital power section.

  6.
Hi bass chatters

Can any tell me what is the impedance values of the push pull pot used in the steamer 1 (part no M84500) I am guessing 500k ohm based on the part no. but if anyone knows for certain please let me know, also is this likely to be log or linear taper.

Does any one have any recommendations as to where would be the best place to get one in the UK.

    thanks Pete
Try Warwick.de they have virtually all the spares you could need and of the appropriate values.

  7. To become a luthier you have to break a lot of guitars... then figure out how to put them back together.

In all seriousness I'm sure that there will be courses somewhere but if you want to strike out then you have to have a good working knowledge of woodwork or cabinet making (not just bodging a book shelf) and have a firm grasp of some basic electronics. You'll need to understand some of the science behind how certain materials react/work. Ultimately if you've owned a guitar/bass for a couple of years and haven't stripped it down and tried to figure out how the truss rod, electrics etc work then you probably aren't cut out for it; just my opinion but to be good I think you need a naturaly inquisitive mind that likes to experiment.

  8.
Im after one of these, ill have it - im trying to send you a PM but my browser keeps crashing, so long as its still available I have the cash ready and waiting, so ill take it!!
Quick sell him it, there's desperation creeping into his text :)

  9.
I did a quick photoshop hacky in amberburst on your original pic

    Any help?
Damn that is good, cheers Gizmo! I may need to keep a lid on the price so burst may push my limit, would it be too much trouble to do your photoshop trickery and get that a plain see though amber/orange a tone about midway between the central colour and the edge colour?

  10.
This is my Shuker... tobacco burst over burr maple. Very orange in sunlight.
Sorry about the small & crappy pic.

That tobacco isn't too brown on the edges (at least in that pic) the centre section (and Homies Sterling) certainly gives the amber, orange effect that I'm after. I'm hoping that the guy doing the work has a PC at his workshop so that I can access these references.

  11.
Stick a top on it... you know you want to
No I won't even go there... the cost would be prohibitive (have you examined the contouring of a Warwick especially where the f'board meets the neck). I may as well order a CS and after looking at the price list breakdown I'd need a 2nd mortgage for that :)

  12.
Here's another. Nathan's original signature in a funky orangey bursty thing...
If my bass had flame or quilt I think I'd be inclined to got for the burst look but as it is quite a plain piece of timber I think I'll go for a transparent single stain/lacquer.

  13. Only for sale as I can't justify having this and a Thunderfunk TF550B!

Spec can be found on the Tecamp website but briefly it is a full tube preamp (x3) with a 1000 watt digital power section. 2x500w @ 4ohm each side or 1x1000w @ 8ohm. A very simple EQ that is really dependent upon the input AND output gain, the more you wind up the gains the more dramatic the affect of the tone controls! At low volumes (in the home) the EQ appears to do very little but as you increase the gain to rehearsal / gigging levels the tone controls have a far greater effect. I'm lead to believe that the preamp is based upon an old passive Alembic design. It isn't that heavy either.

I do have a pdf copy of the manual though it is in German. TBH you don't need a manual as the amp is soooo simple to use and the flat EQ yields a great tone. As can be seen from the pic it is in excellent condition with no issues. New price is approx £1600 (depending on the conversion from about 2400 euro) buy it now before I change my mind. £680 +delivery.
