1. Reduced to £1000 and pics from today added.
  2. "The instrument's playability is unharmed by a few heavy abrasions." I'd have thought JG would have had a better grasp of the standard use of English language. Of course I could be wrong but the way it is written doesn't read/scan quite as fluidly as his bass lines. Not a lot of money for a quality bass and had it been a 4 string I'd have been sorely tempted.
  3.
And here's my positive contribution to this thread. Pagelli:
One string too many but gorgeous. I was considering throwing a Streamer into the mix but Spector/NS imitation aside, it just wouldn't stand up to some of these works of art.
  4. Trying to get the string wound onto the post due to the recess seems like harder work than it needs to be, the recess may have a metal bezel but the strings are still resting on the bezels and that's hardly conducive to a great design. I realise that if this is your only bass then you'd get used to which tuner does which string but the D/G tuners being the 'wrong' way around (in comparison to every other producer) seems again to be an ill thought out design. On that pics some of the tuners look angled back as per Warwick and others straight, it seems almost that it is a case of 'we'll put them where ever they fit' kind of design philosophy! Patently these are all just my views but looking at this as Joe Public looking to buy an instrument it would put me right off.
  5.
This recent creation by Jens Ritter is absolutely stunning in the flesh. Pictures really don't do it justice. . . This close-up of the headstock gives a better idea of the amazing fingerboard:
That looks 'liquid'! Beautiful looking thing but not sure I could imagine gigging it down the Dog and Duck!
I also find these Atlansia basses very eye-catching. I'd love to try one Stunning headstock design:
That headstock is such a badly conceived design I can't understand how someone could construct a bass without correcting the issues about the tuner post recess.
  6.
Bump for tomorrow's Cluny gig. On at 9pm for a 45min set including Larry Graham, Chic, Rufus and other good stuff with our new singer Wendy Saint.
Wendy Saint... why do I know that name? Without wanting to embarrass the lady in question would she be petite and in the 40+ age bracket? I'm certain that I played with a Wendy Saint in a (funk) band many moons back and I've often wondered what she would be doing now... if it be the same person!
  7. Oh and defo no Thumb neck dive on this or any NT Thumb that I have ever owned (and it has been a few)!
  8.
Very impressed and very jealous Warwickhunt. If you had to save one from a burning / flooding building could you choose?
NOOOOO! I'm actually moving house and I'm ensuring we are way above sea level, away from any river or watercourse and next door to a fire-station. To choose one would 'seriously' be (can't think of a more appropriate word) impossible. Infinette - Very cool/rare, probably as distinctive a tone as the Dolphin but slightly different (possibly due to the Maple neck or the body chambers) Dolphin - Funky shape, distinctive tone and this one is a lovely weight/balance SSI - A classic (thanks Spector/NS) and IMHO one of the most versatile tones/pup configs SSII - As above but with a different slant on the tone that is a bit more focused than the SSI Streamer 5th Anniversary - Classic shape/comfort/balance (this one is barely 8lb iirc) but not quite as versatile as the two above... but likely the one I would go to first to gig Thumb - Love the tone and aesthetics but can't get away with the first position due to the short horn/body
  9. Which one is best EVER... eenie meenie miney mo It literally would be a case of doing that between the Streamer (Stage I/II/Ltd/all forms), Dolphin and Infinette... the Thumb is a bass that I've not ever gelled with!
  10. Absolute minefield Matt! If folks can be bothered to respond you'll get quotes from £250-£600 £250 will be from those looking to buy it. £600 will be those who own one and want to make sure that their bass is perceived as being worth as much as possible. Whether it is passive/active, Bubinga/Ash, natural/stained etc. will all affect the price but ultimately the above will have more bearing. Do a quick search of the sales forum and if you can find a bass the same age and spec as yours you'll get an idea of value (that and ebay past sale prices).
  11. Like Dood, I've owned Tech gear in the past and it is generally very good quality. Can't recall the Triple Cube off the top of my head but I've been around long enough to have read the original reviews when these were released so if you throw up a pic I'll see if it jogs my memory and I may be able to find a 'Bassist' review of the combo. ...saying that; the fact that you are asking about wattages has me now thinking that you don't have the combo to hand and may be thinking of buying blind!
  12. Can someone clarify for me (name and shame) who these 'oldies' are? I'm old, I've also been on this forum since the start and I'm fairly active on BC, yet I've not come across these belligerent 'oldies' that several posters have alluded to... so who are they?
  13. The sales fee is just a 'given' and IMHO not worth discussion or debate... period. The matter of complaints, grief, shyte flying about (not that I have encountered it) is likely as not simply related to the number of members now registered. Where in the early days there weren't so many of us, you'd statistically have had few instances for grief but as numbers have grown, it would seem obvious that the quantity of incidents will increase. With more people communicating with 'more people' you've got a greater potential for friction and a greater variety of reasons to get fractious. No idea how you resolve it mind!
  14.
still for sale?
PM'd re advice.
  15.
The Pro M isn't going anywhere ;-) the SSI weights 8.41lb
Not a bad weight, if you decide to sell and have a price in mind give me a shout.
  16.
You mean like this: I'd love to try your fretless, but love my SS1 too much
Lovely flame/quilt on that.
  17.
Hi Ive only just got into Warwick but the GAS hit me hard so here is my collection a 91 SSI, 97 SSII and a 97 Streamer Pro M fantastic basses although I dont play fretless so thinking of getting her fretted (unless someone has a fretted SSI in same condition they would like to swap?)
Took me a minute to realise that you weren't asking to swap a Pro M for a SSI. Do you have an accurate weight for your Streamer (fretless)?
  18. Is the slight fuzz/distortion a characteristic of the pup or is it the recording/amp used?
  19.
Marking things as a gift only works for goods up to the value of £36 and if it's sent by a private individual. The limit for charges used to be £18 (it had stayed at the same amount since at least the 90s, in spite of inflation) but has now been reduced to £15. http://customs.hmrc....=HMCE_CL_000014
Snap!
  20.
Some sellers will mark it as a gift so you don't need to pay tax.
Hmmmm... are you sure. The sender can mark it as a gift but I have a vague recollection (used to buy from the States frequently) that this doesn't make it exempt because that loophole was being abused by all and sundry. I do know that if the value is declared nil or virtually nil and the item goes missing you'd get nothing back i.e. don't try it with basses!
  21.
i can meet you tomorrow sometime
Are you in the Newcastle area tomorrow?
  22.
You can be so harsh John I think the shop took this bass in as a part exchange and were told it was rosewood by the owner who'd had it some time. Generally they wouldn't take something apart that's been bolted together for a long time for fear of woods moving around and unsettling the general feel and action. I have a feeling they will stand corrected and update their policies in the future
Fair comment. It is a bit lazy not to look at a fingerboard and decide for yourself BUT saying that I'm not doing it commercially (contrary to indicators ) and I'm sure they have more pressing matters than to check detail that customers give them.
  23.
My favourite Jazz.... and no routing under the scratch plate (if I remember correctly) if you want to do the Jaco "no scratch plate" thing.
Correct, no routing BUT it has a large 'RW' stamped into the wood to ensure the unscrupulous don't try and pass the bodies off!
  24. Yes seen that 2nd one a few times, such a shame that the jack socket was butchered! If I was buying a vintage Warwick and paying over the going rate, I'd want it to be pretty original (refret doesn't bother me, nor would dirt or 'some' dings) and any non-reversible mods would be a big negative... shame!
  25. The nut adjustment is simply a case of removing the strings from the slots and using a suitable screwdriver; screw in/out the individual saddle/grub screws. As to how much this needs to be done is simply trial and error based upon your preference and playing style. I tend to screw them in until the string is just about touching the first fret and then simply unscrew it a 180 degree turn until it sits where it feels good and suits your playing style/tecnique. The bridge seems complicated but basically unlock the little locking grub screws that hold the individual saddles in place then adjust those to each other and to match the fingerboard radius; again for me it is a case of getting the E and G strings so that the height adjustment has them just pushing off the 'bed' then the A and D need to be a little higher BUT ensure that you have your intonation adjustment in the ball park (which is the G string being the most extended and then tapering back to the E string being the longest... I realise that is simply a generic setting but it means less adjustments later). When you have a basic camber/height/intonation setting you can use the overall height adjustment of the bridge (two centre hex bolts lock the assembly so slacken those right off until finished). Adjust the 4 long recessed grub screws to set an overall height, which is likely going to need a bit more height on the bass side than the treble. When you have that done lock the bridge down with the centre bolts... Oh and have you remembered to lock the individual string saddles? LOL sounds complex but isn't and makes for very adaptable set-ups.
