2. ah, another bass centre thread... might be worth doing a wee search here. i know some have good experience of them, but i didn't.
 3.
After 6 months of on and off work and a week of powering through it (was up til 2am this morning sorting out all the electronics and making sure everything was the way it should be inc. a slight setup) its done now and i gotta say im very happy with it. Finish might not be perfect with some primer showing at some bits on the side, the string retainer might not be perfectly horizontal, the pickguard is also not in the prime location but all these things i can live with.
looks great moore! gotta love the custom colours on a jazz!
 4.
If you're using Halfords paint, I've been tempted for a while to try Montana Gold Cans, they're traditionally used for graphic design and street art. It's Nitro based so I don't see why It won't be as good as Halfords, and a bargain at about £5 a can. http://www.montana-cans.com/products/cans/gold/ I've used the Matt lacquer on paintings and it's great, but can't vouch for the quality of the gloss.
ah, good link! i expect this will be mega useful for the trad fender finishes - there seems to be every colour under the sun there! i used the halfords stuff before, and it's pretty good, but takes a lot of time and effort to get there when using rattle cans. it's acrylic based, so not as hazardous/explosive as nitro. i was wondering if the wipe on stuff would get a faster/better result without the sanding through the edges/topcoat. not a huge deal on a solid colour, but disasterous with stain. i suppose another alternative is a friendly local bodyshop who can shoot 2K or something - anyone got any idea how much i should be looking at there? anyone in the trade? what would you charge some punter walking off the street?
 5. annnd fade to black. stained and grain filled. was a ball ache to be honest; the staining, not the filling. i'm just a bit crap at it i think. still undecided as to whether to shoot good old halfords acrylic or try some wipe on poly for the top coat. the wipe on appeals a lot, just not sure what sort of results i could get with it. oh well, next update - well, when there is one!
 6.
Any updates on this one eightball?
well it's funny you should ask... pot mounting holes drilled. had to rout much deeper into the cavity. bridge mounted - strung it up just to make sure alignment all good. you can also see the knobs in a trial electronics fit. this is a rough layout of the pickup and bridge. been busy staining over the past couple of days with mixed results. i'll post up as soon as folks.
 7. get some battery clips off the bay (should be pence - you need 3). that way you can make a wee loom, so you don't need to permanently modify the instrument for 18v. then you can suck it and see! diagram here (scroll down a wee bit) http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/the-seven...le-18v-mod.html

 9.
I'd just like to clear this up, found it as I'm looking for reviews of some Sansamp gear and came across this, pretty shocked to find out it's actually about my band. Firstly, we were not headlining the night or providing the backline (as we were an out of town band, we thought it didn't make sense for us to headline and the local band play earlier). We have no problem lending out gear, we know what it's like to start up in bands and not really have that great gear; the problem we had with this was that the band opening (who started this thread) did NOT ask permission to borrow any of our heads (which, in our experience, are not classed as backline) but went straight up on stage for their sound check and plugged in then started moaning when they couldn't get them to work (not knowing where the on switch was). (For information, I play an Ampeg which has taken me years to save up for, and our guitarist plays a nice Orange Rocker which he has also saved for years for.) We let them use it after showing them how to work it and asking if they could make sure they left all the settings how they found them, call me old fashioned but was expecting a thank you for helping them out, alas nothing. So we let it go, walked off and got a beer to chill a little bit. Went back upstairs to watch them (polite thing to do...), thinking 'maybe they'll say thanks on stage, you know, like most bands do who borrow gear.' Again, nothing, even as we went on to set things up for us to play, no thanks, nothing, which I found a bit rude but thought 'seems like it could be their first gig, so we'll leave it.' I think they drummer had asked our drummer if he could borrow cymbals and snare as he didn't bring his (got his snare in the end, but still borrowed our cymbals), so that was fine, as he asked and said thank you. The next day, we had a message from said band to our myspace, thinking 'oh cool, they've thought to say thanks, maybe it just slipped their mind.' But no, was just asking if we'd picked up a lead they left; which then prompted me to send the message which this thread was started about (I've copied the full message below for you to see what was said...) sup guys, i'll check with the others about that guitar lead. just for future reference for you guys though, backline does not mean borrowing other bands amp heads or drum breakables. as you can understand, our gear is worth a good few thousand ££ and when people just assume they can plug into to our amps without even asking or saying thanks it's never a good thing. it was your first gig so its understandable, but just so you know, some bands would not have kept quiet about it like we did; it's just gig etiquette to say thanks for any equipment borrowed, especially when it's gear that is not supposed to be borrowed. ryan x I might be old fashioned, but even if previously agreed with bands / promoters that backline is okay to borrow, I'll still ask the bassist and make sure I say thanks to them, same with each of our members depending on whats borrowed, simple manners.
+1 - pretty much agree with this (from the same experience!). on the bright side - at least it led you to basschat! Welcome!
 10. i think the problem is cultural; a lot of 'promoters' just try and stick on as many bands as they can in order to secure ticket sales (glasgow is rife with this). in my experience, with 5 odd bands on, 3 of them will be utter sh*te, 1 will be okay, and 1 good. the decent bands will pretty much bring their own heads etc. i ALWAYS bring my own head, and cabs if i can't find out whats there before hand/know that it's a crap rig. the way i see it, 5 bands using my rig is 4 more gigs closer to potential problems i am. that's assuming the other users have a clue. i've been playing a fair while, and in that time done my fair share of touring - you would never expect other people to provide your gear. due to this 'ticket culture', younger players assume that they can turn up with a bass (in many cases not even a cable), and plug into whatever is there because someone else will provide an amp won't they? in a sense, it's not their fault - it what's been learned. i have no problem saying no, in fact, i have over 1000 reasons worth of rig to say no! we always make it clear that at our shows cabs (bass and guitar) and drums (minus snare, pedal and cymbals) will be provided. more often than not, another player will rock up with a 30w combo, see my rig, and decide they'd rather use the big amp. it's a bit rubbish to be put in the position though, where you really don't want your gear destroyed, and are being made to look like you're a bugger for not letting all and sundry use it.
 11.
somewhere I downloaded a gauge you can print onto a sheet of paper, cut it out and you can tell what radius it is, try google for it.
here? 19. way back - creedence, skynrd back - minor threat, gorilla biscuits now - black label society
 20. not mine, but a mates; we were touring with biohazard in 97', my mate dave, who was driving for us, was a massive fan, complete with biohazard tattoo's. he decides he's hungry after the drive from belfast to nottingham rock city (1st date of uk tour). he goes and gets the biggest, most chilli sauce messiest kebab you've ever seen. standing at the load-in doors of the venue, dave takes 1st enormous bite of kebab; who rocks up but evan seinfield (dave's hero). evan says hello to dave. dave (in awe, mouth full of processed lamb, lettuce, pita and chilli sauce) attempts to reciprocate, but only succeeds in half spraying him with aforementioned kebab. even walks off in what appears to be semi disgust. dave hangs his head - 'do you know who that was?' (tosses kebab in bin) 'i'm not hungry anymore'. i still feel a wee bit bad to this day for gutting myself laughing.
 21.
Where's that, now? I remember there was one place out on York Street, opposite the station could be funny..... worst I ever encoiuntered, though, was Session Music, back when they were on Dublin Road. I remember them refusing to quote me anything other than list price (which even back in those days was £200 over general street price) for a Strat, claiming Fender would'nt let them or somesuch nonsense..... needless to say, never bought anything in there.
you mean baird sound. they could be a bit funny, but knowledgeable old guys - i used to rent pa stuff there. almost bought a natural bodied p bass there too! marcus music was awesome when it was in north street - i used to sit in there for about 3/4 hours on a saturday when i was a teenager, playing lots of things i blatently couldn't afford, and they were really sound guys. was in there on saturday actually when i was at home; and it was balls. john at matchetts was an awesome guy (and bass player) - he really, really helped me out more times than i can remember. bought my bart tct from him, in 1996 or something, and it's still in use in about it's 20th guise!!
 22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6oIkgI69gE makes me laugh everytime... ...oh, and if you've never seen this, it's all you'll think of when you hear it from now on. sorry
 23.
I'm considering this amp, but will be using it with an ashdown MAG15 cab so only getting the 350w at 8ohm rther than the full 500w. Ive just got rid of my ashdown LG1000 cos it felt like i just wasnt getting the volume out of it (and some research shows that could be due to it being a class D amp) wopuld the same problem arise with this GK one does anybody know?????
i use mine with an 8ohm hartke 4 x 10 (XL or transporter - can never remember which; the better one!) at practice, and it's well loud enough. that's accounting for 2 guitar players in a louuuuudddddd metal band, who play their marshall dsl's cranked! in fact, big george at sonic boom studio's states we're the loudest band who rehearse there. when i use my pair of goliath II's the volume normally sits about 9 o'clock on stage. obviously there's no contest between the 2 8 ohm SWR's and the single 8 ohm cab, but at rehearsal, volume is about 11 0'clock on the single hartke, and it performs well. i notice no real difference between the MB2 500 and my old 1001RB, besides it being a third of the size, quarter the weight, and the tuner out and send return being much more sensibly placed on the back. oh, and don't forget the footswitchable boost! the MB2 500 has a fatter bottom end to my ears too.
 24. seeing as i've upset some folks, here's a wee update tuners on - schaller BML's (cheers to howard!) decided to do a wee bit of lining up the bridge... ...and fitted the awesome hipshot string retainer while i was there. these things are so cool and satisfying - it's just a cool wee object! well, that's about it for now folks - got a bit of grainfilling to do, and some pickups to rout, then it's finishing! title amended btw!
 25.
I'm slightly disappointed it's not actually made from metal! Looks very cool though! Looking forward to the progress!
if someone is truly metal, then EVERYTHING they touch is in fact; metal.
