1. Yeah, i'm in soton. Let me know if you want to borrow any mics for a trial, i don't have loads, but a few options if you don't have many yet. If you're still unsure i could lend you the clamp for a week if i don't need it. Drop me a PM if so. Robin
2. I've got a H clamp, and it seems to stand up pretty well. i've not had any mics fall off yet, and it doesn't wobble too much causing scratches etc. Ocassionally i find it slightly too shrot for some mics/positions, and it can be difficult to adjust wuickly, but once you get your head around the procedure (fairly simple, just practise) it can work wonders. I'm still undecided on mics yet, i've tried most things from SDC's to 57's/58's to kick mics lie the D112 etc. They all seem to work well with the right sweet spot, but obviously you ahve to watch out for feedback if you're playing loudly just through an amp. If i'm palying big enough gigs i normally send the mic to the PA and then use a piezo into an amp for monitoring (i used to send both to PA and ask them not to put any mic in the monitor, hwoever too amny sound guys have seemed not to grasp this concept, so i just provide my own monitoring now and as k for no bass from them). It's a great little tool and very useful for trying out different mics etc, however i often use a short mic stand to audition differnt positions for new mics to save time and unwanted kncoks and then fine tune with the H clamp.
3. I'd be worried about getting a custom bass too early on, i think you're better off trading through a few basses that you think are close to what you want (and some that you don't) for a few years to get a proper feel for the advantages and disadvantages of different styles of bass, as once you've spent your money on a custom, you're not getting it back. I'd say sink the money into some nice second hand bass(s) that will retain their value, so that you have a great bass, but the money is there in the future for you to sell and buy a custom job when you've palyed a few different styles for a while and know what you're likely to want long term. Then you have the joy of the hunt. Also think about maybe getting a decent amp whilst your at it if you're worried about money in the future.
4. Doh, i just voted the wrong way also. I really thought i'd read it, but then just went over my opinion in my head to check it out, and then clicked yes to agree with myself. So i say keep it. I agree that you should be able to pick up a used amp for alot less than the loss you'll make selling this now. However, use it, don't worry about little dings etc. (it just adds character and memories to the bass, specially if it's wood finished), just get the first one out teh way and then you'll feel better after a few days. Also, if you're really worried about your insurance company paying out from previous expereinces, then change insurer. I'm happy that almost any claim i make with my insurer will be paid promptly from previous experience. Although it may not be the cheapest, what's the point in having cheap insurance that won't pay out?! So NO, don't sell.
5. If your postage situation doesn't work out then I might be able to offer my services as a middle man (live in southampton and often geig in bournemout, and work is taking me up your way next monday). Let me know if i could be of assistance (if so i'll work out a sensible delviery fee). PM me if i can be of any help, Robin
6. I'd recommend checking out some fo the phil jones cabs, although not necessarily the easiest for positioning, great hi-fi sound, i've run vocals and keys through mine aswell as background music for intervals when we've had PA issues (once had to run keys, vocals, bass and guitar through my stack at once, and it handled it pretty well).
7.
If you can make it to Hampshire you are more then welcome to try out my PJB M-300 head.
You can pop down to southampton and have a go on my M-500 and D-200 aswell if you want, that's pretty much the whole range. I'll let you know if i ever get down your way if you can't find any other options.
8. I'd recommend the D200 as a smaller head, just picked one up to save me lugging around my M500 for smaller jazz gigs. I run it with a 4B and it's easily loud enough to keep up with drummer and cope with most small/medium venues. Although it provides the same power to all impedances, the added cone area from extra cabs makes a noticeable difference (when i put it through my 6T and 9B it's loud enough for most gigs).
9. I'm in the Mono camp. I've got the double bag, and it's a great bag, don't ever worry about my basses in it, waterproof, great padding and plent of space for everything. I feel comfortable having this in the back of the van with the rest of the gear (making sure no cabs are going to fall on it etc.).
10. Huw bought my Legend of Fuzz pedal off me. was a quick and easy sale.
11. Theo bought a strap off me a while back, very quick and easy.

obbm's feedback

Bought a Phil Jones Bass D-200 off Dave. Very easy negotiation and collection at very short notice. Great guy.
13. Bought some Beyer cans off Rick recently. good price, easy to arrange collection and very friendly. Robin
14. Hey guys, Clearing out some now surplus bits: 1) Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0 - As new condition, with box and manual (box is getting slightly tatty - used for transport to keep the unit safe). This is a great little mixer, 4 xlr inputs, 2 more stereo inputs, with built in effects, 2 aux sends and returns, etc. Also does multi-track recording with relative ease. Very nice for recording separate band tracks (enough inputs to do basic drums, then the rest of rhythm section, multiple vocals etc. Have also done full jazz quartet live recording with some smart patching). £150 + postage SOLD 2) 2U rack drawer - Solid steal, so fairly heavy, but sturdy. It has a lock, but no keys, however it does stay shut unless you tip it around with heavy objects in (i usually tape it shut for travelling to gigs). Very useful for keeping those little essentials in (i currently have screwdrives, tape, marker pens, aux cables, desk mic, and a DI box in there). New keys im told can be bought for relatively cheap, if not a locksmith can pop out the lock and pop in a new one for under a tenner. £30 Collected or + postage (heavy) 3) I also have a Visual Sound H20 Echo/Chorus for sale in effects. £90 Collected or + postage 4) I also have a Dunlop High Gain Volume pedal for sale in effects. £40 Collected or + postage Feel free to ask me questions or pm me offers. I will get some pics up ASAP. Robin
15. Put me 3rd in line!
If the Art dual tube pre is dropped to £20 and Chris doesn't want it, I'll have it, although I suspect it's dropped to £120
16. Hey, i think that's pretty cool. improvements i would suggest: - I think the addition of frets 12-24 (possibly as an advanced option rather than standard) would be great (i personally can read fine upto about 12th fret, ok to 17th adn then struggle above that) -Maybe add a treble clef option, either at pitch, or up the octave, this would be great for me -Also i think your B string is a bit sharp on thsoe reocrdings, btu maybe that's just my ear -another quirk might be longer samples or a sound hold functon for playing about with chords (and if it could recognise them that would be amazing, but i assume far more complex) Otherwise, great tool, thanks for sharing. Robin

18. Thanks for the heads up.
Just for the record Visual Sound pedals aren't true bypass - they make a big deal about the quality of the buffers in their pedals and how their buffered sound is much better than true bypass.
How about £120 for the H2O and the Volume Pedal?!?
19. Bump for last price drop before Ebay
20. I've just realised that after taking into account the price i bought this at and the work i've done to it i'm losing money at this price, so i'm currently re-thinking the sale. Sorry to inconvienience. This may be back up soon once i have concidered my finances. Thanks, Robin
