1. Thanks for that. I'll see how the postage works out for the others, if I can find something to bulk up the order - if not these will surely do the job. ta.
2. They look just the job - to see a sub-£10 set of earphones listed in the top 10 with sets that cost £200 is pretty impressive. And that's an extremely kind offer - thank you! - but I reckon I'll get 2 pairs at least and shouldn't find it hard to add a couple of other bits and bobs. Ta.
3. As per title. I always break them - chuck them in the gym bag and they get abused, sweated, sauna'd and steamed - so no point getting HI-FI. ta!
4.
What Carnival ? Garry
Canvey carnival, which is back this year - website here with the route, road closures etc in case you find yourself hemmed in and wondered what was going on.
5. Bought an EBS Unichorus pedal from Phil in what has to be one of the easiest transactions I have had on here. Good bloke to deal with - good comms, pedal was well packed and posted off as soon as funds had cleared - arrived next day in tip top condition. Very pleased - thanks!
6.
I see you are on the Essex Riveria, i am over on 'that Island' Now thats a good reason to up the medication
Ah - 'there'. I am a brave boy these days and venture over the border every Tuesday to rehearse. I forgot my passport once and was turned back but usually everything is fine. In fact my next gig is at the Haystack on Saturday - evening slot after the carnival!
And I wouldn't let a lack of experience hold you back from contributing. I know absolutely* nothing and it's never stopped me smile.gif
Notice I didn't disagree....
7.
I've bought and sold a whole bunch of things on here and i've met some jolly nice people in the process too. I don't really have much to add to what the main regulars have to say. There are many people on here who are experts in all fields who usually post before me so i do the on-line equivalent of nodding and raising eyebrows in agreement, i.e. saying nothing. I could simply post "hmm, i agree" all the time but i'm sure it'd waste everyone's time!!!
I think this sums up my view, too. I don't have the wealth of experience that others here have to contribute so, unless I have something in particular or relevant to say, don't just post for the sake of seeing myself on the internet. But I think having a low profile can have it's downside - people seem less inclined to get stuck into a discussion that I try to start or just overlook posts that I make. In a thread recently I added my tuppence-worth, no-one commented. One of the high profile, 'pro' players made much the same observation and it the discussion carried on. Not saying that everyone should have an acknowledgement to every post they make but it does sometimes engender the feeling that there are cliques here. Either that or I need to up my medication
Lastly, I`d read reviews of the pair together, and they sounded so good, I just had to do it. Damn GAS!
That's exactly why I am interested, too I have rehearsed and gigged my BF Compact now and, in terms of volume, would guess it can handle pretty much any situation. But if I were being totally picky, a little more top end would make it just perfect. I could live without it but, well, do I need to live without it?...

I'll be interested in reading your review. I ask this out of curiosity and with no agenda - why did you feel the need to add the midget to the stack - did you feel the compact wasn't able to do what you needed by itself?
10. If you have no issues with your back, storage space isn't an issue and you want to maximise how far your money goes then you can pick up used Trace Elliot gear on here for next to nothing. Pro-quality for entry level prices. 300W head with a 15" cab plus a 2x10" and you have a 'proper' rig that is versatile enough for any gig - and quite probably change out of £500.
11. Maybe it depends upon the vintage - all my TE speaker cabs had both jack and XLR sockets. The TC Classic 450 has a centre socket for jacks in the speakon socket so you should be ok either way - I used my old jack>jack until the BF arrived, then speakon<> speakon.
12. Medium, with an extra large bassface. I thought goatee beards were supposed to hide double chins? I was watching these vids the other day and noticed this bassist had his bass slung in a rather low and almost parallel to the ground kind of way: but in the same set he plays something a lot (!) more complicated and wears it much higher So presumably the first position is purely an affectation, which seems pretty silly IMO. Anyone know who he is BTW?
13. For a while, whilst awaiting a Barefaced Compact to arrive, I used my TC Classic 450 through a Trace Elliot 18" cab and it sounded great... ... but not as great as through the Barefaced Compact.
14. I don't personally see any reason to hyperventilate about someone making an offer. And asking for postage to be included is, as far as I can see, the same as making an offer that is lower to the value of the postage. If you don't want to accept it, just say 'no' - with 17,000 registered members here anything will sell if it is priced realistically. Surely life is too short to worry about this.
15. I have just (re-)bought a Westone Thunder Jet bass. Unlike it's heavier cousin the Thunder1A, this is made of alder and weighs just 8lbs, single split coil pup, passive. I just changed mine from passive to active but left alone as a passive with a pick up upgrade (the stock ones were pretty weak IMO) that would do P-Bass sounds. Look pretty cool, too - that stealth look always does it for me. Excellent value for money - I paid £77 for this one! - when they come up, but finding one might not be easy. Extremely well made instruments - fantastic neck, thinner than a P-Bass but not quite as skinny as a Jazz.
16. Here it is. Or she, I have called her 'Rosie' as in 'Whole Lotta Rosie'... to misquote - 'She ain't exactly pretty Ain't exactly small with an onboard preamp and high mass bridge You could say she's got it all! A wolf in sheeps clothing - the only tell-tale signs there is anything unusual going on in this tatty old girl are the stacked knobs, bridge and, round the back, a small LED in the middle of the control panel cover that lets you know the state of charging. New Kent Armstrong pickup is hiding under the original covers Rehearsal tonight - can't wait to put her through her paces.
17. Quote from the Hamsters website
Zsa Zsa uses a modified Jim Dunlop thumb pick. The modification consists of a circular thumbpiece which is attached to the base of the trimmed pick. This then slips onto Zsa Zsa's thumb somewhat like a ring. This enables him to use the pick without actually having to grip it. The reason for this modification is that Zsa Zsa suffers from a nerve disease called Focal Dystonia, which, put simply, affects the ability of his hands to receive the control signals from his brain. After much hard work and determination he has over the last few years re-learned to play bass and guitar and is now pretty much up to 75% of his previous ability.
18.
Dude who plays for the Hamsters uses his thumb all the time.
He uses a modified thumb pick, which sort of looks like he is just using his thumb.
19. A very quick update on this, in case anyone is remotely interested I picked up the Washburn Thunder Jet last week and it was a mess - not seen a duster for maybe 20 yrs, the neck was bowed and filthy, the bridge saddles were lying flat on the body and to compensate the neck plate had been loosened to stop the buzzing ( ), the volume knob missing. But, apart from a few dings, nicks and scrapes, plus the inevitable buckle rash, it wasn't that bad. I took it to bits, gave a good clean and polish and have to say it has come out pretty well - a real diamond in the rough. As you would expect from a Westone, the neck is pretty damned good. More to the point, it weighs almost bang on 8lbs, so extremely lightweight (unlike the Thunder 1A) and very comfortable. Meanwhile, I used my Washburn Scavenger (11lbs +) for rehearsal last week and as expected found it too heavy to wear for long now that I have a dodgy back. This afternoon I did the transplant - removed the Kent Armstrong pickup and P-Retro pre-amp from the Scavenger and put them into the Thunder Jet. I was extremely nervous as I have never done anything like that before but was tempted by the solder-free transfer afforded by the East gear. Anyway, a little judicious use of the chisel allowed room to fit it all in the little existing cutaway, all secured and charged up, added a Gotoh-a-like high mass bridge and some new strings, set it all up as best I could and plugged it. All I need to do now is to fit the black stacked knobs (on their way). Anyway, just 'Wow'. I can hardly believe how great it sounds - it is immense at practice levels. Just huge, with a variety of tones you would never expect. Well, I wouldn't anyway. I can hardly wait to use it for rehearsal/gig to put it through it's paces. Westone are renowned for making superb quality instruments, the electrics on this model were always thought to let the side down - problem solved. And great to have another lightweight bass option with it's own identity - a quality instrument for not a lot of money (bass cost £77 on eBay, P-Retro £120 from here some while back, bridge £18, knobs £20). Once the knobs are on, I'll take a couple of pics.
20. How much do these/does this weigh? I read they are basswood, so perhaps not too heavy. Mainly curious but it IS a very nice looking thing, and with the skinnier neck profile, too.
21. Knocked it right off. And the upper and lower bouts, too.

23.
Yes it would. A cheap alternative. Maplin do a system for £24.99 (here)
Ah, good. I like cheap alternatives. I'll buy these then - thanks again. Does having a line selector and multi-effect unit qualify as a 'pedal board' or do I have to mount them onto something first?
