I might have more use for a wheelbarrow made from an upright bass, but watch this with interest...

Ki0gon loom is a great call as the screw terminal mean lightening quick pickup changes and, for shaky old hands like mine, no soldering! I had a bitsa and tried out all manner of pups until I got the one that sounded right for me.

My upcoming Newcastle Arena gigs... a kind-of diary thread
Paul S replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Aside from the quality of the photos one of things I have really enjoyed about this diary is the humility and self-deprocating humour with which you have written it. No swagger or boast for a gig that, I'd wager, most of us would give our right hands to play ( ?). Which is probably why you got it. Absolutely well done (but well deserved). -
Do you cut your strings? Why or why not?
Paul S replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I had a Fender that had a recalcitrant A string that would pop out of the nut at the slightest provocation. making sure the winds went down as fr as they could to increase the break angle cured it. -
Doesn't cover building but I find this very useful. i

I prefer maple for the aesthetic. I do have rosewood but prefer maple - preferably around 30 or more years old so it has started to turn that lovely honey to caramel colour. .

Removing felt tip without damaging the finish

Something like this? -
Trace Elliot head GP-12 SMX preamp, I think this is 250W but not certain. I kept hold of this old head as to my ears it was the better of the two TE heads I owned. It has an extremely fat baked in sound that I really liked. Sat in its case taking up room so decided to sell it. FIts snugly into this 'Peli-a-like' case which is pretty much indestructible. Like all Trace gear this is stoopidly loud. The fan is a bit noisy at bedroom volume but nothing serious and no-one has any business playing through one of these in their bedroom anyway.. £150 collected from South Benfleet in Essex - including the case. I'd rather not courier this. Could possibly deliver or meet for fuel costs depending upon distance.

Selling my Hofner Ignition Club bass. Shiny black. I bought it 3 months ago during a small but intense bout of GAS, strung it with TI Flats, moved the strap pin, took off the pickguard. Still got the pickguard and screws. Weighs almost nothing. So far as I can see not a single mark on it. As they say - it is what it is. Goes thud in a variety of ways, some of them quite pleasant but I need to jettison some stuff. £200 180 £160 collected from South Benfleet in Essex or £200 £180 posted to mainland UK At this point I am not sure I want to courier it as in a rush of blood I think I chucked the box out. I need to check in the loft to be sure but that is a scary place and I need to steel my nerve to venture up there.

I bought one of the CIJ ones around 2010 ish. Black. Stuck a black pickguard on it (and re-named it my Panther bass ) Had the P pickup been an option then I'd probably still have it. Uber-slim neck.

Shakatak at Maritime Room, Cliff's Pavilion, Westcliff on Weds night. They are still amazing!

I've been watching fakers for the past month or two. There was a time not so long back when eBay would pull the ads very quickly but recently they seem to go full term, don't know why that should be.

What a great job! I haven't the patience for anything like that. How long did it take?

I'd say if you like the sound of the bass with TI flats then use those. Other strings don't sound or feel like them as far as I can tell. I stick them on all my basses now, love them. It's a bit like saying 'I tried a Precision bass, really liked it, so bought a Jazz'.

No Saxon? Surprises me.
