1. What do you know... It's a fairly old post now but I posted a wanted notice for an Aphex Punch Factory pedal a couple of months back. Then, 2 came up for sale here in the last week (a bit like buses) and I missed both. Would it be an idea that fellow users check the "Wanted" section on the BC forum before posting a For Sale notice? Just a thought?
2. My Dad ! He's played bass most of his days and one day his late 60's Precision will be mine. Mwaahawhaw......
3.
when you say 'your songs' I presume you mean original's..... that's a no no pretty much.
Hi Crez5150, no I didn't mean originals I meant songs the band want to play or usually play in their set. You might like the latest Metallica number, and play it in your pub set but it doesn't mean you should play it in the wedding set. I guess I was trying to say you have to "read the crowd" and alter the set accordingly.
4. I've played wedding gigs for years and yes, some of them are hard work but so long as you have a list of songs that cater for all then generally it's a pretty good night. Some nights it's fast all night, some it's 2 fast, 2 slow. Others it's more ceilidh, other's its mostly modern. You can't pickup over a grand for a wedding and expect to play "your" songs. I think so long as you remember that, then wedding gigs are fine. If your not willing to do that, then IMO you shouldn't really be playing weddings and should be sticking to pub gigs.
5. That's a very nice looking bass. I have one word of advice. If you say the back has some "staining" then you should probably show a picture of it, if you can. Other than that, good luck with the sale.
6. Funny, I've just been making some adjustments. Put a small shim under the bridge saddle and it's now fixed the buzz. No buzz on any notes.
Hi, how did you get on with the neck....sorted?
7. It doesn't choke on any other string, and my guess is taking a bit of tension out the neck will cure it. I'll maybe try that tomorrow, and stick a straight edge (steel ruler) along the board to see if it's raised at a particular spot. It doesn't really choke, just more a buzzy note if that makes sense ! Open to suggestions on how I might cure this.
Hi, any idea why it's choking in that particular place? Is there a high spot on the fretboard? Does it choke in the same spot on the other strings?
8. I have a 4-string Ashbury Electro-Acoustic Fretless Bass, like this one click here Bought it on BC, and have now realised I'm not a fretless player. Don't really play it so looking to sell it on for the price I paid, £120 + £20 P&P Comes with a gig bag. The string chokes/buzzes a little around the 10th - 12th fret on the G string but still a bit of fun to have lying around the house for the right person. Guess it's easily fixed with a decent setup or new bridge, just can't be rsed.
9. A few people have enquired about the nut width of the bass. I'm not really sure how to measure nut width, but width of the actual nut is 45mm and spacing between centre of B & G strings is 37mm give or take. Hope this helps answers the questions. And thanks very much for all the positive comments.
10. Sorry d-basser, a 6 just isn't for me. Tried it, and it was 1 (some would say 2) strings too many. Thanks though.
Wouldnt want to trade this for my Sei would you?
11. Sorry folks that it's taken so long to post pics. I'm actually contemplating selling this beauty, hence taking a few pics. This was built to my specification by Martin Petersen back in 2007. Cheers Stephen P.S. I'll get some of my Red, Sparkly Shuker posted sometime soon as well. My #1 bass at the mo' !!!
12. That'll be Rod I guess, www.rvguitars.co.uk
13. Hey, you nicked our band name Big Night Out !!!!! Based in Scotland too but on the East Coast. And it seems like your playing a few of our usual haunts too. Hope you're not playing on our good name.....
14. For a long time, Richard Jones has appeared as an endorsee on the Shuker website. Isn't he the guy from The Feeling ? In todays pop market, they must be about the same level as Kaiser Chiefs ?
15. Hehe, my bass made the new home page although it's got MOP blocks now.
16. Didn't ever say I had the cash for the '65 Jazz, this was other deals I missed out on. Some day I will own a '62 Precision though.
17. So that's where I'm going wrong!!! What I need to do is say that I want the bass/amp/other but tell the seller that I need a bit of time to come up with the cash. Seems a bit daft, but if it means I can get the deals then happy to go with that. I'm off down Arnold Clark's to try the same thing
18. Don't want to steal a thread but shouldn't the sale go to the first person who comes up with the money? There's been a couple of deals where I've missed out because I've went to check I could afford it, only to be told by the seller it was on hold until someone sold another bass, got their next pay check or whatever even when I had the cash in my pocket. If it was me, I'd make this one of the BC selling rules.
19.
It doesn't make any difference whether they're 'parts basses' - I think the end justifies the means. Your car is made up of parts from different manufacturers
On that premise, why not just buy yourself some Warmoth parts, a Sadowsky pre and pickups and get a local luthier to do the build and finishing work. I reckon you could save at least £1000 over a Sadowsky.
20. The bass tone control on a J-Retro is boost only and it has a centre detent !
21. Oooh, I love the look of those F Bass Jazz-a-likes ? Is that one for sale or just an example of what to buy for £4K ?
22. My maths must be wrong. £4K - £2K resale = £2K it's cost. £10 week * 52 weeks * 4 years = £2080
23. Why are most of you obsessed with getting maximum reasle value on a bass? It might seem like a lot of money, but £4K isn't that much these days. I guess it's all relative but I know a lot of people who will spend £10K on a car and loose half the value in 2-3 years. Let's say he loses £2K over 4 years on the bass, i.e. he buys at £4K and resells at £2K then the bass has cost him £10 a week. Wow! Maybe I have £4K to spend on a new bass too :0)
