I would much prefer a Tolex finish on the vintage-style cab with some piping too. I don't care if it rips and being honest, if the cab has a cover then it shouldn't really make much difference.

Hi Wonderhorse I'm in the very same dilemma as you. Looking at (possibly) replacing my Schroeder 410L cab with a lighter weight I was looking at the Barefaced Compact. However the Purple Chilli cabs looks amazing, although I've never heard one. Weight-wise the "Compact" seems superb, 12Kg compared to 18Kg for the 15" Chilli cab. However, finish wise the Purple Chilli looks streets ahead of the Barefaced cabs. Anyone got any pics of a vintage-styled Compact? So, as Harry Hill would say.... what's better "Barefaced Compact or Purple Chilli" ....

I did exactly the same as you NGH, and replace dmy Nordstrands for Wizards on my Shuker Jazz and what a difference. I had the Big Singles going from reputation and loved the single coil sound, but boy were they noisy. Got Andy at Wizard to custom wind a set of replacements and has made all the difference. Was thinking of selling the Shuker for nothing more than couldn't get rid of the buzz and now it's a definite keeper. Best bass I've worked with, and Jon is A1. Had same problem in my Sei Jazz with the same pickups, Nordstrands and have swapped them for the Wizards too. Can't rate Jon Shuker highly enough. I though Martin Petersen was good regards custom builds but Jon is at another level IMHO. Not in terms of build quality, but in overall customer service especially.

Coming to that time again ! I'm curious as to whether every honest, law-abiding BC'er pays tax on cash gigs ?

Schroeder 410L or the 21012L. In fact there's one or two for sale on here at the moment.
Through necked instruments don't have the same punch as bolt on instruments though, especially bolt on's with traditional Fender bent tin bridges.
That's not always what I've experienced. My Warwick Stage II was way more punchier than some bolt-ons I've owned, in fact probably most bolt-on's I've owned. And my Shuker set-neck is way more punchier than my Sei Jazz bolt-on.

As much as JPJ probably loved playing with Bonham, you can't expect him to find Bonham clones to pair up with every time he plays surely. Grohl is a great drummer, and I'm sure JPJ enjoys the different style regardless of the drummer he plays with. I listened to a bit of the Youtube clips and it's very QOTSA but then it's going to be isn't it? However, I think the bass is very Zep'ish. Funny that ! -
I used to have a couple of Sei Jazz basses with thru necks. And my Shuker has a set neck, so looks pretty much thru neck from the back, with a Fodera-style neck join.

I don't think you should change it, the weight & wood used in the body and neck are all part of creating the sound which you love. My advice? Buy another bass and dig out the old one for the odd gig or song. By the way, I've got a '63 Jazz too. But a previous owner changed the body and the neck in late 80's and then the electrics and hardware early 90's. Mine doesn't weigh too much, but it's fantastic. Open to offers around the £3K mark. I think it still has the original '63 mojo that came with the bass, so not entirely a lost cause?

Anyone on here the owner of the Zon Sonus 5 at the Gallery?

I think you have 2 options, (1) Buy a Hiscox case, or similar and get it delivered to the seller. You'll lose £20 on resale maybe if you decide to sell it afterwards. (2) Check out a cheap rail ticket and spend the day on the train going down to London, meet the seller and bring it home yourself. Best form of insurance !!!!

Thanks for the bump JTUK. The neck is pretty typical of a Sei Jazz I guess, not sure how to describe it but it's very slim feeling and fast. Has a glossy type finish but not sticky (if that makes sense), rather than the oil-type finish on Sadowsky's and the likes. In terms of sound it's still fairly Jazz sounding even with the humbucker-style pickups. Now there's no hum either As for the weight Happy Jack I shall weigh it tonight for you. I did ask Martin specifically to keep the weight down as I play weddings at 4hrs a time. I'm pretty sure I asked for it to be chambered but not really sure how to tell once a bass is finished. It's a fairly light bass, but I guess the scales will tell tonight. Thanks again for all looking. Stephen P.S. The Bass will be heading off to The Gallery or Bass Direct fairly soon, so grab a bargain before the commission goes on !!!!

Hello all Seriously thinking of selling my Sei Jazz 5, see link This is my backup bass, and is really too nice a bass to have sitting around doing next to nothing. I know it's coming up to Christmas so this might not shift, and being honest it won't bother me if it doesn't. Looking for [s]offers around the £1600 £1500 mark !!![/s] £1400. Cheers y'all Stephen

Done a quick search and there's plenty advice on band lighting but I'm after advice on disco lighting.... Currently have 2 x iColor 4 lights on the band, but looking at renewing our old'ish disco lights. i.e. the ones that face on to the dance floor and make the punters think they are at a disco Any suggestions? We currently have a couple DMX chaser style lights but they've been a bit of a disappointment really.
