1. I'm reading the OP and it says the basslines were written over scratch vocals and I would have expected the recording to be done over some sort of guide vocal as well. Surely, either the guitarist, producer or bassist would have realised something wasn't working long before final mix?
2. I've had amps & especially cabs that have sounded great in the shop & crap in a band mix, and vice-versa. The Schroeder being one in particular!
3. Yes, but how does he know if he'll ike it or not until he's tried it? Catch 22. Sounds like this could be an amazing rig, and top quality gear that'll handle the rigours of touring.
4. I'm based in Fife, Scotland but happy to ship if necessary.
5. The Ashdown website also says A new upgraded power section has faster transient attack, more headroom and even less noise. I just got myself a v3 and have to admit that I switch the compressor off. Still a great sounding amp though, although it's been a while since I had the v2 so can't remember how alike it sounds.
6. This was my main gigging amp for the last couple of years, has been kept in a full rackmount case for it's lifetime. Don't have the original box I'm afraid, but I do have the manual, amp feet and rackmount kit. Gone back to an Ashdown ABM 500 RC III amp so this is surplus to requirements, although I may regret it.
7. Hiya Paul, welcome onboard to another Scot
8. We play a couple of gigs in Marquee's and the sound is great because there's no reflection of the sound. I find this is usually half the problem. In true Viz style, why don't you get yourself a cheap 2-man tent from Halfords and stand inside that with your amp, during those gigs where your bass tone is too boomy. Don't be afraid to ask, I'm full of great ideas.
9. This is one of the best posts I've read on this forum ....
10. I don't think it's unrealistic for sellers to Google their product and get an indication of what the product is being sold for by online retailers. It at least gives an indication to the seller what to realistically charge.... HAVE A BUMP....
11. I've got a Fender P5 and it's a great bass, one of the new ones made in 2009 I think. I was after a passive 5-string bass in 34" scale and Fender were one of the few to offer this. Does the passive Fender Precision tone very well, funnily enough!
12. I'd like to try installing a passive circuit in my Shuker Jazz bass. However it has neck LEDs and I prefer blend to a 2nd volume. So, anyone up for wiring me a custom Jazz Bass harness? I'll obviously pay for all parts and the work involved. After volume, blend, tone, on/off rotary switch and because the jack is on the side of my bass all this will fit in a standard control plate. Any offers? Cheers Stephen
13. fancy a trade?
14. f*** me, I only posted a comment. Why does the website not say that he can't afford the medical bills? Instead it says that CR can no longer work (which is true) and that he has a reduced income (which is also true) but my point was that, at 71 years old he typically would have retired and have a reduced incolme anyway. In my opinion, using the reason of a reduced income is really a bit wooly as he should have expected & planned for a reduced income at the age of 71. If he'd had a stroke at 35 years old then my opinion might be different.
15. did you find out if it will work in the UK then? I'm waiting on a reply from Markbass to confirm. Let me know if the sale falls through, thanks.
16. I didn't say CR's loss of income was BS I'm sure that's true. He's a pensioner in ill health and I've no doubt he's suffered an income loss.
17. According to wikipedia, Chuck Rainey is 71 years old. While I fully appreciate he may have medical bills to pay, this loss of income story sounds like proverbial male cow poo.
18. To the original poster, how many hours do you think realistically a luthier takes to build a bass?
19. I went for 2 1x12" cabs because of the weight saving more than anything and the cabs are slightly smaller cabs as there's less speaker area to fit in the box I guess. I still think 10" speakers cut through a band mix slightly better than the 12" ones.
20. I've had a few smaller cabs 10's & 12's and always wondered why they put the handles on the top where the amp typically sits, like Epifani does?
21. Hi 1970, Sorry I can't comment on the 3 cabs you've mentioned. However don't rule out the GK Neo 112-ii cabs. Very good value for money, can be stacked horizontal or vertical and lighter than all 3 you've suggested. They are very well built, good tolex cover, sturdy corners, metal grill and good handle placement. You'll get them new for not much more than you're prepared to pay 2nd hand for the other cabs.
