  1. Norm has just bought some footwear from me, he's great guy to deal with: good comms and payment, a real credit to Basschat.
  2. As soon I saw Tom's ad for his Volvo V50 I had a feeling that it would be a good, reliable car and exactly as described, as well as just the type of practical car that I was after. Frustratingly, I wasn't in a position to buy and was sure that it would quickly be snapped up, especially when he twice dropped the price. I managed to convince (didn't take much, actually) my wife's nephew that he would love to own my Mk1 Audi TT, so I immediately messaged Tom who gave me a call and we had a good chat about the car and said he would put it on hold until I could meet him in a week's time. I sent Tom a few questions that came to me as I did my Volvo V50 research over the week and Tom replied quickly and in great detail. Yesterday, I drove to Leeds, left the TT with its new owner who then drove us to Tom's, near Middlesborough. Tom is a real gent, had a good chat with us about the car and all sorts of other stuff. The V50 was just as he described, in really good condition, I had no doubt that I would be going home in it. We did the admin, fortified by coffe made by Mrs Tom, said our goodbyes and my new toy took me back to north Wales in comfort and economy. I would strongly and without hesitation recommend dealing with Tom, he's a star. .

  5. Lovely. There seem to be fewer and fewer Leo-era G&Ls for sale nowadays, much less the obscure models such as this. I wonder how many S500 were brought in to the UK? As you say, it's in immaculate condition, nice to see the patent sticker intact - although they didn't all have one fitted, apparently - and the deep body contours that these era G&Ls had. This would be an ideal partner to my 1987 ASAT and SC-3 but I'm trying to get rid of stuff not acquire more. I'm sure someone will be keen to have it, though, and it will soon sell. A great bit of history. Kevin.

  17. Poor observation as I didn't notice that you are in the NE. If you're happy with mail-order, then keep an eye on Retrotech Audio I've bought a few things from them, they are only a tiny outfit and it's best to phone and speak to John, the owner.
  18. @Matt P I don't know of anywhere else around the north-west. The CD63 is a nice player so you could see if Wilkinson's could fix it, they have a good repair service (generally for slightly older kit with caps, resistors, valves etc not new stuff that's all integrated circuits) but they are usually busy so turnaround may be a few weeks. Also, with the low price of formerly top-end players (I recently picked up a CD63 MkII KI signature for about £50) it may not be worth the cost of repair, sadly.
  19. @nekomatic I didn't think you'd have swiped the speakers, there's nobody like that on here. Wilkinson's are great, well worth a visit and it wouldn't take long from Stockport.
  20. @nekomatic The speakers, Wilkinson's or both?
  21. Ignore - repeated post.
  22. I've just had a quick look for replacement tweeters and couldn't see any MS1T-3R5 but saw some similar to that posted by stevie that have a very slightly different name - it's probable that, if they physically fit your cabinet, they'll be fine and you won't notice any difference. Another option* is a new (to you) pair of speakers I have bought a few bits from Wilkinson's and they are a proper old-school hifi shop. It would also be worth giving them a call and asking as they may well have a spare tweeter (they have hundreds of spares and items that aren't on their website). *If you do go for these and they won't post, I will be visiting them in a couple of weeks so would be happy to pick them up and we can sort out getting them from me in north Wales to you in the W Mids.
  23. Even if you don't want to remove the tweeter tonight, at least post the model of the speaker (often MS-nn format for Mordaunt-Short) and we can probably work from that.
