  7. Opening a guitar shop is quite a commitment in this day and age for various reasons (rent and other bills, price competition, stock levels etc) but he must have done his homework so the best of luck to him. I guess there is quite a bit of footfall around that area so hopefully he'll be busy, possibly more with repairs, setups etc, as they are something that many people are happy to pay to be done and they can't just buy online. Speaking of the latter, hopefully not too many trying out instruments in the shop then buying elsewhere online cos it's £1 cheaper. Good to hear of a new shop though.

  9. The definitive 70s look: black and chrome/steel furniture, including massive bridge and pickups, atop a beautiful natural-finish body and neck. Good luck with the sale.

  11. Obvious now that you've mentioned they weren't on 70s basses, Steve. Thanks.

  13. Lovely, looks just right.
  14. A very classy-looking instrument with all the features that I like: lovely, dark fretboard, big tuners (are these reverse-wind?) and a nice clean 'rear view' i.e. no skunk stripe and no string-through body. The pickguard was possibly changed to accommodate the CTS pots as these have larger shafts than the Japanese-spec pots; I think it looks better than an all-black one. Good luck with the sale. Kevin.

  19. It's what you've always wanted and it's your big birthday so it seems as if you'll be hanging on to it, go for it! If they are hard to get and pricey in your country, then even more reason to get it. I wouldn't worry about the possible discrepancy with the serial number and date, the MIJ serial numbers don't always match the manufacturing date. I had a MIJ Strat that had a serial number that was several years earlier than the date pencilled on the end of the (original) neck.
  20. As said, it's not a problem but just normal wear and tear, I'd leave it as is, it doesn't look excessive to me. Makers charge more to put artificial wear on instruments, this is genuine and all-natural... I agree with @Hellzero, it is overpriced. The MIJ Fenders are good but everyone seems to think they equate to the legendary JVs (which tbemselves have gone a bit mad with prices). What model is it? i.e. the PB number?

  23. Just plug the hole, as described earlier, and replace the existing 50mm screw. It will be perfectly fine in freshly-cut threads and there are the other 3 screws in there as well. If the neck was going to move then it would have done so by now, don't worry about it.
  24. It's possibly working loose due to being driven in to an already-threaded hole but the mismatched threads have resulted in the hole getting chewed. Probably just easiest to plug the hole (use cocktail sticks and white wood glue, doesn't need to be anything fancy). A handy tip is to cut the cocktail sticks flush - after being placed in hole with glue - with end-cutters or side-cutters. A small diameter pilot hole may be needed before screwing in the same screw you have now. Being in newly-cut threads should ensure it holds fine. If you want to return it to stock then you may find the original Fender screw will cut its way in without any more filling needed and, being longer, will cut enough new depth to be perfectly secure. Do you have the original screw if you want to return it to stock?
