2.
Jon Shuker in Sheffield is a Delano distributor and because he one of the finest Luthiers out there (and designs his own preamps) - he really knows his pickups too. http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk
Well I rang John and apparently there is nowhere you can buy Delano pickups in the UK... which seem amazing. He thought Thomann might sell them but on further investigation they don't. He orders his in big batches under some business agreement and they take 3 - 4 months to come through. He does not act as a distributer.
3. Wow, that looks stupendous! That's the most attractive model Alan makes (in my opinion). Congratulations.
4. Some interesting melodic decisions in Jeff Berlin's playing - plenty to admire - but I grimace when I hear it through that wretched chorus pedal.

6. I've got a Cube 30. Very pleased with it.
7.
interested in trading at all? I still regret selling my old one
Possibly. Depends what for, of course...
8.
Hey all, So, basically is there a technique for training your fingers to work at speed and in rhythm or do I just practice, practice, practice? Any help apreciated. Thanks, Edd
Ed The finger technique (like you see most bass players doing) does not suit everyone. I also can't play fast with two fingers doing upstroke. Try these two alternatives: 1. Up and down strokes on one finger (like a plectrum). Anchor your thumb while you do this. Pluck lightly with the finger tip 2. Downstroke thumb, upstroke finger, alternate. Surprisingly easy and rarely used.
9. trad guy...
10. The Delano site lists these locations: 1. Delano Pickup Systems (DISTRIBUTION) Surmannskamp 7 · 45661 Recklinghausen · Phone: +49 (0)2361-653215 · www.delano.de 2. Electro Music Doncaster · Phone: 01302-369999 · contact: Dave Ryan · www.electromusic.co.uk 3. The Bass Gallery London · Phone: 020-72675458 · contact: Alex Carter · www.thebassgallery.com 4. Route 66 Stoke-On-Trent · Phone: 01782-286217 · contact: Don Clayton The top one does not actually sell them, the second one only has 3 models and doesn't include the one I want. the third has no info concerning Delano on their site and the fourth doesn't have a site. Anybody know how to order them?
11.
Nice video by Ken Smith. he takes you on a tour of his factory and show how is bass's are made. 12.
It has flatwound strings on it, not old ones, and has some foam in the bridge cover. Should I try changing the strings first? Should I get active pickups? Or just sell it and try a Jazz?
Rip the flats off and go back to rounds. They are truly useless for what you want. You either love flats or hate 'em.
13. Terrific, highly underrated basses, these
14. I had a similar problem with Pyramids at the other end. Appalling design (and terrible dull sound IMO)
15.
I had La Bella deep talking flats on my fretless and I like them a lot - but I could do with a bit more high end zing - closer to rounds. Any recommendations? ta
What do you like about them?
16. Don't forget to wear a tea cosy Jazz hat and talk about "cats".
17. I played a 5 (or was it 6?) string in the Bass Merchant. The body had a superb carving on the back and horns and had perfect balance. The whole thing was brilliantly constructed. I wasn't so sold on the sound, though (bassculture pickups - never heard of them before). I must say I find this bass incredibly attractive and I'm tempted to investigate further: Anybody else own/play one?
18. Interesting instrument...
19. Good decision
20.
Check out the new Power-Prog Trio that Brand X bass legend Percy Jones is working with called Bang Tower. Their new CD comes out on Sept. 28. www.bangtower.com
'new Power-Prog Trio' I can't help feeling Percy is a wasted talent these days in these kind of outfits - he always seems to play in bands with hysterical, loud guitars or with musicians who like using out of date, naff 80's FM sounds. I wished he'd play outside of the Jazz Rock genre and avoid 'new Power-Prog Trios' for once. His playing really stands out on the Brian Eno stuff (for instance) because it's not swamped in drivel boring musicians. He should seek more interesting situations IMO
21.
Hey, Spoombung, nothing to do with your for sale thread, I'm afraid, but I've just realised you're one of my favourite bass players! Ever since I heard 'Hoist the Levant' on some NME or Melody Maker freebie some years ago. I've coincidentally nominated you as an 'unsung bass hero' on a thread on a hi fi forum I subscribe to - so there! So glad you're still kicking around and active, as 'twere.
Very Kind of you...
22. Plenty of interest... but still here!
23. One of my all time favourites:
24. I still maintain I've never heard a Precision bass sound like his anywhere. It might be interesting to offer up a challenge to see if we can get any P-bass players here on Basschat to emulate the sound and then run a competition for the best effort.
