There’s a thread on the bass day that this grew out of (and is mentioned in) here: Bass Day Unfortunately I’ve engineering works on my train line so can’t get up to Dalston in time.
-
I wanted a Zon Sonus but as they never come up for sale ended up with a Legacy instead. Lovely bass but just not scratched the itch…

Aye, I can’t see me selling my Kestrel. I’ll have to give my kids your details 😂.
-
I was going to say Manson. There must be JPJs out there but you never see them second hand.

Yes, yes and yes. But it’s all horses for courses. I used to hate seeing a band and getting stuck in front of (insert whoever you like except the bass player here) and not being able to hear anything else except their amp. But the ‘sterility’ of getting stuck in front of a PA speaker with everything in it and wondering why I can hear the bass player when they are ‘over there’ is weird.

I always practice through headphones. That way Mrs Wombat isn’t shouting shut the f&^k up up the stairs 😂.

Am I allowed to say 'told you so'? 😉

Another reason to connect to a computer is to back the Stomp/device up. That way if it breaks, gets stolen, whatever (yes it’s an outlay) but you can just buy another and be up and running with exactly the same sound as soon as you restore your backup. No two amps will sound exactly the same (which is a good & bad thing). As with other comments I do tweak things using a computer (it’s easier to get into some of the settings) but got caught out when I started with modelling by being at a gig and not being able to tweak what I wanted. I would add that I don’t think any of the punters thought it sounded bad! I’d still like to get my hands (ears!) round the Global EQ but I have enough problems with bass, middle & treble on an amp! 😂

I’ve posted elsewhere that you have to ‘cold turkey’ working on the Stomp itself. No way is it practical to lug a computer to a rehearsal (or gig) to make any changes. You need to know how to do it on the unit. At least to a level of getting a usable sound (which is easy). Yes, all the knobs & flashing lights look daunting at first but it honestly becomes easier quite quickly. You just select and change one ‘thing’ (amp or effect) at a time. Yes, there are some parameters I generally leave - and I’m still not really sure what ‘sag’ is (something to do with the way valves behave). There are lots (prolly too many) help vids and several threads here. Whichever unit you buy you will need to learn that company’s ‘language’. It’s a shame you/we generally have to buy something before we can start.

Would you spend the time getting the best sound out of an amp? Probably. And you would do it at ‘gig volume’. Could you get an acceptable sound from an amp the 1st time you used it. Also probably. Would be the same with a Stomp/ other HX. You just need to apply the same principles and use your ears.

Totally agree for gigging. I didn’t put it right but the thrust was they were not welcome at all ie not at rehearsals either. Personally I use one there so I can get the song in my head.

We have someone on the Kent section who used to ask for musicians but ‘no one who has to use an iPad’ along with other demands where I couldn’t see where the ‘problem’ was.

How far have you travelled to pick up a Bass?
Wombat replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I was only joking Reggae as you said all the way round! The pedant in me wants to point out that the M25 doesn’t go all the way round. There is a short bit of A road over the dartford crossing that they used to stop them having to stop collecting tolls once the bridge finance was repaid. That was a term of the finance being syndicated for the build so tolls should have stopped many years ago. But hey Ho! -

Why didn’t you go the other way round? 🤷♀️🤦♀️😂 -
As I actually don’t know - never used Subs - where would you put them please? We have a pair of Bose F1s and they are fine with me going straight in with my stomp in the small pubs we play. Great hifi like sound! But been thinking for a while that we may need a sub if we ‘break out’ and play anything bigger! So knowing where to put it/them would be good! A supplementary question (to which I guess the answer is ‘no’) is that I have an old pair of Alto 12s gathering dust (they are sooo heavy) so could one/both of them be used as subs? Cheers peeps.

Unless you paid cash you have some form of redress through the banking system surely?

Flying (fish) without wings - Westlife

All about that bass - Meghan Trainor

Now that’s only reserved for banjo lessons 😂

Aye, the blurb from Aston about the focus groups of various musos that got to pick the ‘voice’ of the mic swayed me. I paid much more when it 1st came out. They are a steal at sixty quid!

I’ve got an Aston Element which is a ‘hybrid’ (whatever that means) but it covers a multitude of situations for a bargain price.

Bought a Barefoot Strap off Dave. Good comms, arrived quickly very well packed. Many thanks!

Buy wearing a T-shirt or hoodie with a really useless band on could make you look like a dork! 😂. But more seriously, great comments peeps. Keep ‘em coming!

I've used joinmyband successfully. Err and unsuccessfully. But if you take the rough with the smooth mostly a happy experience.
