Welcome aboard! Looking forward to watching the documentary. -
Will Basschat survive the Online Safety Act?
Richard R replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
Surely the best way to keep Ped out of prison is simply for us to not start posting illegal comments? Of course the corollary is true, and a co-ordinated attack by hundreds of fake accounts using VPNs from abroad could overwhelm the moderators, make compliance impossible and drive him straight into the arms of OFCOM (In practice he's completely safe as what would actually happen is we would get distracted by asking what breed of pigeons are best for metal) -
I'm still in. I really need to fix an issue with the Roland GK-B2 hex pickup for the V-Bass modeller that took me out last year. Until that's done no more bass purchases, so I'm good for a while next year too.

Cleansing by fire would probably work better for my woodwork.

As others have said - better to look after your back than cripple yourself. Happy noodling, and pop in every so often.

Welcome aboard! Hopefully we'll meet up at the 2025 Midlands Bass Bash -assuming I get my backside in gear and actually organise it!

[GONE] Introduction to Schenkerian Analysis textbook
Richard R replied to velvetkevorkian's topic in Completed Items
I looked this up, I think it's definitely for those doing music degrees rather than those of us who struggle with Mustang Sally: "Schenkerian analysis is an abstract, complex, and difficult method, not always clearly expressed by Schenker himself and not always clearly understood. It mainly aims to reveal the internal coherence of the work – a coherence that ultimately resides in its being tonal. In some respects, a Schenkerian analysis can reflect the perceptions and intuitions of the analyst." -
An old version of Easy Worship. Which I routinely refer to as Evil Worship, due to its little foibles.

once you've played a 5 string what's the point of 4?
Richard R replied to DDR's topic in General Discussion
And that was your downfall. 😁 -
I wasn't playing today but we had two fabulous services. Sometimes the congregation just want to SING and it's all the band can do to hold on for the ride!

Clearly @Dad3353 and I both need to grow up! 😁 -

I bet you say that to all the girls 😉 -

Yep. Whenever people have asked me "Why does your bass have 5 strings?", they never believe the answer "It's easier to play and I'm lazy", even though that is ultimately why I play 5. 😁 -
U2 tribute band needs new bassist, a question for you all
Richard R replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
I had never heard of Auerswald before this post. Having looked at their web site I can only conclude that they are inspired by Chris Foss's sci fi novel cover art from the '70s. This is better than being inspired by the illustrations in The Joy of Sex, which he also drew, but either way I would stick to a P bass. -

My guess would be that the low frequencies are sustained for longer because the bowing continuously excites the string, rather than decaying quickly away after the initial pluck. -

I completely agree, but it seems a lot of people dismiss him and Mullen as not that good, just because they aren't flash. -

Congratulations on getting the gig. I know people have a pop at Clayton's uncomplicated bass lines and Larry Mullen's straightforward drumming but they are the perfect rhythm section for that band and those songs. Lock in with the drummer, let the guys up front go wherever they need to, and everyone will have a great time. Nobody other than bass players and obsessives will even notice what bass you're using 😉 When and where are you playing? -

Solid Foundation were a dub reggae band in the late 1970's. Technical Noodling is a type of cooking pioneered by Heston Blumenthal. There's a YT video of the now ageing Rastafarians attempting to eat this stuff for the first time, it's called... -

What's the construction? Could it be cut into two 2s, or a 3 and an open sided 2? -
