  1. Well, Grecos have ceramic pups so they're not gonna sound like your '72. Did I make a fanboy accusation? Don't think I did. However, Prowla asked what copies were s good as Ricks and I offered Greco. He dismissed that with brevity. Fair enough. I just happen to disagree with him on that point. Bar my '73 and CS, I had issues with every other Rick bass I had. Combine that with the attitude of the rottweiler who is the subject of this thread and you can see why some players become jaded, if not dejected with RIC. Or even a tad reactionary. Nota Bene: I don't mean to cause offence. If I have, I apologise forthwith.
  2. In my experience, yes. By a long chalk. Dwell in this: at one point I owned 8 4000 series basses; now I have none. Yet I have three Greco Ricks. Had them for several years. Does that not tell you something? In fact, don't bother replying. I've read your posts across various fora and you clearly are a champion of the RIC brand. Just please don't doubt they're the be-all and end-all of basses, for they aren't. Far from it!
  3. Any copy by Greco. Fact!
  4. 4002 wings How hard could it be? And in that thread in 2006 Hall says he has 4002 pups locked away in a drawer. They were on USA ebay. Pretty sure the wings were sold by the 'Jersey Butcher. Perhaps they were full bodies, but it's all lost in the mists of time. One set of wings popped up on an auction site a few years ago.
  5. Hall seemed to take great delight in stating that there would never be a 4002 run again. I can't remember what the excuse was. Yet for years a pallet of 4002 wings sat idle out at Santa Ana. Mysteriously, they turned up on ebay ten years back, some married to necks. I very much doubt those were fakes. Their existence was explained as the work of an ex-employee, IIRC.
  6. That place I remember in Blackrock was called 'Beat It Music' or Danny Hughes' Music'. They had all kinds of vintage gear, from guitars/basses to amps, cabs, echo units, you name it. They also had affordable kit along with high-end stuff like Lowdens. I always made a point of stopping off there on the way down from Belfast to Dublin. I went in last summer and all the vintage kit was gone! All of it.
  7. Where are you in Roi? Dublin had a few (what's that big guitar shop?), inc those fellas who deal in vintage gear, Some Neck. I was in Galway a couple of years back and saw a couple. Moloney's had some good stuff, albeit trad. Blackrock Music, up near Dundalk, is a shadow of its former self.
  8. Big-up Bass Direct! The Hipshot arrived this morning and is now fitted. Came with two, spare intonation screws, one of which I am going to need right away as the G saddle only goes so far back before halting. Time to get the strings back on.
  9. I concur with your Rick-porno plan. And let's not forget that Wee John looks not unlike Ron Jeremy!
  10. JH once went into flap about non-RIC Rick bomber jackets. Real tacky '80s jobs. Can't say I blamed him for that!
  11. They got the TT burst correct on that one. It's a beauty. Can never understand why Fender didn't put the hootenanny button on the CS models when they were present on the AVRIs. And shame they don't do clay dots any longer; I love the aged look. Anyway, GLWS. That's one of the best looking stack-pots I've seen.
  12. As a kid I'd go holidaying to my relations up in the Western Isles and these poor things were used to haul peats home from the moors. The drivers used to bounce around on that seat. Must have done wonders for one's spine! Classic thread!
  13. Phuq, I thought that was Phillip Green in the other photo that you posted! I need to go to Specsavers. Cool T-shirt, though. Floyd '77.
  14. Sorry, on the moby and can't make that out for sure. Is that a frottage session in the KitKatKlub in Berlin??
  15. Did any of you drive that thing? The weird steering wheel that was an attempt at emulating an F1 steering wheel? I did, in the late '80s. Awful car....
  16. Clearly been studying Billie Bob Thornton's look.
  17. On a lighter and more disparate note, what is Davros doing on BBC, reporting from the Old Bailey? He fair scrubs up, as they say.
  18. Locomotive, I believe.
  19. I met him once at an event. He was extremely cordial. True story.
  20. Would to God that he were! Stop enabling me, please!😜
  21. Anyway.....it hasn't been proved that JH is not still at the helm of RIC; he'll be guiding it on his death-bed, I should wager. Good on him. Hopefully he'll have learned some manners, embraced progress, and gained a few more customers in the process. I'd like to be one of the latter again. One day.
  22. Fella - I have been personally insulted by Hall. I can't stand the man. He is fair game in my books.
  23. So would I. And turn it into an RM1999. Have to be 2nd hand, though.
  24. Yeh, you're right about bullying. But JH wouldn't bat an eye about that. As the song says, 'Money changes everything.'
