I have used these Alembic strings on and off since I have had an alembic bass.
Does Alembic make them or are they contracted out to a core-business string manufacturer? Never tried them; just curious.

Glad you got it sorted and that you got great service and advice.

If you have experienced this, would you mind explaining how you coped with the situation and any workarounds.
Personally, I've not experienced any adverse reactions, but there could be some residual chemicals on the surface or leaching out during prolonged use with body heat/sweat etc. Have you tried giving the buds a thorough wipe with alcohol-based wipes.......like those used to clean glasses, camera lenses etc?

Wow!!!
Fantastic attention to detail @rubis. I missed this thread somehow, but have just spent time to read it. The skills, patience and dedication are there for all to see.
Thank you for sharing. Well done!!

I'm rapidly getting to like it more than my other, apparently better (and certainly much more expensive) instruments. Perhaps it's because I play it every day and am very familiar with the feel of it
I think it may also be that you have limited expectations of such an instrument, so when it delivers you can't help but be impressed. This becomes a somewhat virtuous circle. I have this with a bitsa bass as well. Thing was put together on a shoestring and plays quite nicely. Strange how the psyche works!

Sorry, just saw that @walshy picked this up yesterday.

The asking price is 9 grand!!! One line description.
What is up with these guys? It doesn't even have the fancy gold thumb rest.
Am I crazy or is 900 a closer figure and maybe indicative of a typo?

If the plane has a proper business class, then ask the flight attendants nicely to put it in the wardrobe in business which is rarely full of coats. Otherwise your borrowing a decent case seems by far the better, safer solution.
I've done this a few time with Steinberger-type cricket bat basses. Even then, one time it was handed back to me and I discovered that the D-Drop tuning screw was bent up and unusable. Obviously, some privileged silly billy had shoved his executive luggage down the side of it. I can only hope that it scuffed his leather accessories.

No idea what i'm gonna do if the Indy#2 goes thru up here and we build the wall again. England will be a foreign country
Can you translate that phrase please? I didn't study "jock" in school or elsewhere!!
Just a wee sassenach blowing up your doedelzak 😃

I've not had much success steaming dents out unless you have contact with the "bare" wood. If you have some poly in the vicinity, and it is cracked, then steaming will likely be ineffective and could even risk lifting the surrounding cracked poly as the steam gets under it.
If drop filling is an option, I use auto clear coat in a small paint stick container. Several thin coats always better than a thick one.
From what you say the bass is already dinged up from previous owners. Maybe best to consider your ding as just another "battle scar" and play the heck out of it.

That’s lush - Bernie’s work is unreal - not found a bass that would ever want me parting with my 4 string rumour
Here's to that comment.
I have two Spitfires and a couple of Goodfellow (Player and Classic) basses. I don't have a Rumour yet though...........now, there's a thought!!

Baby wipes for getting any serious grunge off of frets etc, Dunlop lemon oil, pure carnauba wax on glossy finishes and plated parts.
Baby wipes are also good on car dashboards and interior plastics.
Just don't use ArmorAll or other such products anywhere near painted/lacquered surfaces. They are full of silicones.
Unfortunately, some baby wipes also contain silicones ....so, beware.

Silicon is a spray finisher's nightmare. You can never get rid of it and it repels paint or lacquer.
Most auto spray shops ban all silicone-containing products for that reason. Paint "fish eyes" ruin any refinishing work, period.

There are plenty of guys who can refinish it perfectly well. It just won’t be “factory”, as they say.
Better than tram tracks tho.

I once saw Chris in a video playing a Lakland Bob Glaub, sounded just like his Ric.
Yeah......he seemed to be able to get any bass he played to get that "classic" growly klank. Fantastic player........much missed.

Second Hand Selling Problems
in General Discussion
Posted
Well I guess that I'm a bit the same. One always takes a bit of a risk (as buyer or seller), but BC is still far better than some others imo. Maybe just a run of bad luck Stewie?
