Can't help think he's inadvertently helped you dodge a bullet there. A truss shouldn't be that fragile should it? Seems it was gonna go at some point.

Yeah...........I'd say those truss rods were either maxed out, corroded or whatever to snap like that. He was embarrassed enough to ask if I wanted a discount and he'd get it fixed ASAP. I was on the plane out the next day..............and, to be honest, my confidence was shot by then.

  2. I was staying for a business trip one time in the mid-west U.S.A. in a small sleepy town. Main street was dying, but they did have an active music store. I was in there having a noodle on some 2nd hand basses. The staff were very helpful and I finally settled on a nice Ric 4003. While doing the prep work for sale, the knowledgeable and helpful tech looked the bass over, played it and confidently concluded that the truss rod(s) needed a tweek. I hadn't noticed that the neck was off. You guessed it, he went at it like a gorilla and, ping..........the deal was off.

I was glad that he did it at his behest rather than me asking for it to be done.

i guess that helpful staff can be sometimes just that bit too helpful.

Don't take it for granted mate.

    Seriously!

I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy the sh!t I went through.

    You think you're indestructible.

    Until you're not.

    This ^^^^^

Age, posture, lifting technique etc all play a part.........but, ask any sufferer of chronic back pain and they will give it to you straight as it is........^^^^^

That said, you can live with one finger missing as you can live with the wrong input, it doesn't make a great difference...

As long as it's not "the finger" that Cuzzie extols as being the only thing that makes gear sound different. 👆

  5. I remember way back window-shopping in Denmark Street and Shaftsbury Avenue. The place was a mecca for guitar shops. I'm not sure if Wunjo's was a name in those days, but my memory is not what it used to be.

Glad to see that a physical store in a high rent district is able to hold its own against online retailers. Great customer service cerainly helps.

    Brings back fond memories.

Middle aged (and older) men are hoarding instruments. In the past, you’d have a bass, maybe two. Today, as people on here can attest, a lot of people have many more. When we shift off this planet they’ll come up for sale more often, reducing their prices. Add on to that the high likelihood of inter-generational conflict, a deep and damaging recession that economists forecast will make 2008 look like a mere statistical blip and prices could come down sooner than we think.

    Oh dear............that's me stuffed then!!

  7. I know that, even if I am relatively gas-free at the moment, the minute I see something I'll be all over it like a rash. I can try the rational, mature approach, but deep down there are just so many beautiful basses out there!!

  8. I want to like them.......since the guys at Ashdown offer us bass-players great stuff in terms of amps and cabs.

I'll reserve judgement until seeing one "up close and personal". Unfortunately, at the moment they're a bit "meh" though.

Do it, you’ll only regret it if you don’t. I did the BMus at ICMP, I graduated in 2015. It really opens your eyes, not only about your playing, but other aspects of music too. I’d never written any music until the second year of the course. We had a composition module, run by a very inspiring tutor. I graduated with a Masters in composition in 2018, I’m now in the second year of my PhD. I’d never have been doing this if I hadn’t studied music. Bear in mind I originally went to improve my bass playing.

Welcome Spaniel. @ambient has nailed it with his response IMO.

Best of luck whatever path you choose.

I found it easier just to give in.  I started the year enthusiastically enough by joining in the 'gear abstinence challenge' but, having failed on a technicality (an equal value trade) I dived headfirst into my GAS and ended up buying 6 basses, 3 amps, a new cab etc etc.... Never say never.

Yep........i started 2019 being really strict with myself and limiting where I looked so that I wouldn't fall victim to GAS. Just like Paul, Stewie and many others.......I failed miserably. Ended up with 8 additional basses, one combo, a HX Stomp and I'm happier than ever. I reasoned that you only live once!!
