No QC is bad enough, but there are potential health hazards here.
Appalling.

The patterns are distinctive and the colours really match very nicely. Overall, the effect is superb.

Perhaps people know of useful Japanese sources for these?
Drop Danny Stewart (Bass Direct Japan) a mail.
He runs a finder service for MIJ stuff. Maybe he'll have other leads in the Far East as well.

Don't forget the MIJ Aerodyne Jazz (or Precision, if you can find one).
I believe that many came with a light basswood body. Resonant, but can be subject to gig dings If that's a concern.

Cort seems consistently to deliver "more bang for your buck".
Nice.

Bought a MIJ mid 80's bass from Gareth recently. Very smooth transaction and great communications throughout. Great job, thanks Gareth!

I think the guy behind Dragonfly (Harry's Engineering) was the main luthier at Aria back when they had a bigger market presence.
I've played, but not owned, Bacchus and Dragonfly basses. Top notch quality control, especially on the tiny details.
As has been said above, you'll get consistent quality from MIJ basses. Don't forget Atelier Z and Moon as other examples.

Nothing yet for me.
We've begun rehearsing again, since we can accommodate adequate social distancing.
Since the members of the band come from different parts of our (small) country, we rehearse in a central location. Was going well again until our vocalist - who lives in the Antwerp region - was required by law to be home by 23 h in order to comply with recently introduced nighttime curfew.
So - an hour's drive, two hours rehearsal, and an hour back. Hey ho!

Just a teensy drop more and I'll be drawing a 6 figure basic salary in Sterling for the first time ever.
Sounds like it's time for another bass then!

Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple. Easy to play badly!

I'd sell it and use the money to rent some thugs to send round to Scott's house and "gently persuade" him to remove me from his email list.
Seventy thirteen spamming emails a week is more than one man can endure.
That is precisely why I unsubscribed from SBL. Lifetime membership ain't worth a damn if you have to put up with that level of marketing/sales BS.

Is this available
I don't think so. I missed out on it a few months back when @ale29 indicated that it had been sold in response to my PM.
I'll let him confirm though.

Stu: so sorry to read and learn about this. You are an inspiration to others on here and are always there to help us out with our niggles. So now's the time for us to try and help you navigate a way through this. (PM me if you think a one-to-one sharing might help). All the best, bass brother.

But I almost cried when I first got it, settled back with headphones on and played one if the discs - it sounded so harsh and brittle.
I still have the vinyl LP's from a number of the earlier Yes albums, as well as the CD's. It is true that they sound different, especially listening through headphones.

Very happy with my Vanderkley 2x12. Light in weight but not in tone.

You must also check out the Yes Album.
With "Yours Is No Disgrace" being a stand-out track among a bunch of top numbers IMO!

Not sure if it is this bass itself, but Ken Miller had a few videos of his work put up on Youtube. I believe it was from his estate when sadly he passed on a few years ago. The sound is not great, and he is no movie star, but you get the picture. GLWTS @Rabbie

I started to play double bass as an instrument in school music lessons. I was 13. They had one crappy instrument and I was the only one from my lot who volunteered. I played for the last two years of high school in the school orchestra doing the usual arco classical stuff (badly!!). My passion was to sneak in early and stay late in order to try pizzicato style (badly).
At home I had a Columbus Jazz and an old Fenton Weil (?) guitar amp. The cab was a diy 2x12. Well, the journey went on - as they say. That was over 50 years ago. Hey ho!

Here are some more boutique basses from Bernie Goodfellow.
These three are early ones from mid-late 80's before he set up GB Guitars.
