My expectation for Japanese quality level is very good, so I won't get a bad product, if not otherworldly flashy either. Americans (the F-word and some others), on the other hand may have a good day or not. So their quality is more prone to occasional defects that lower the overall expectations. I just have seen far too many pricey US basses that do not meet with their expected quality: neck pockets, loose parts, soldering problems, messy electronics, low quality components... I have felt like the quality check was not done properly or at all. Cost cutting?
I have some experience with both Moon and Atelier Z Jazz Basses, although not yet with Bacchus. You are correct with their (Japanese) quality control and attention to detail. Superb workmanship and "not in your face" looks. I love them.

Yes....in the 60's she was behind many a great groove and is also a talented guitar player. One of my favourites is I'm A Believer (Monkees)....great line IMO.
I guess it's no surprise that Macca rates her as one his great inspirations.

Yes... Great stuff.
I've just read through the whole posting and would definitely be up to try making a pair of the Mk II's.
Thanks so much for all the ground-work you guys have done!

Do I really need the power of the XLS1502 ?
Or will an XLS1002 suffice?
It will always be in bridge mode
In one of my rigs I run a Crown XLS1502 bridged through a Vanderkley 212. There is plenty of power available for most small/mid-sized venues. I use an Avalon U5 as pre or EBS Microbass II to drive if I need more eq control. For the price difference I would always going for more power since the difference is not massive between the XLS1002 and 1502. Great amps for what they are....and super light weight.

We know when we get it right....but, sadly, most of the audience is just not savvy about the individual instruments/musicians. I find that if they comment it is mostly on the general sound quality. Too loud is a bad place to be. I recently left a band because they heard but didn't listen when I said overall it was way too loud.

I didn't see many references to Burns basses, although they have been remanufactured for longer than the original company was in existence. Here's my first "real" bass. I've had it since 1974 when it was already10 years old (Nov 64). Beaten up and crusty (or is that mojo?) I sometimes have to nurse the truss rod (a funky geared version with a special adjusting key), but find that she seems happy with low tension flexible flats. For that classic Serge Gainsbough/Jane Birkin sound played with a plectrum (pick) close to the neck pu.....you can't beat it.

No....but we do have some great beers. Imagine living close to Stella Artois and Hoegaarden and you get the picture. The Moon in my username BlueMoon is the bass.

Hello fellow bassists,
Another lurker who has finally joined BC and adding to its international audience. Based here in Leuven, Belgium I play in a couple of local cover bands and enjoy music at a hobby level.
I've been at it a few years with notable gaps for family etc, but am now back and enjoying the community.
My first bass was a 1964 Burns Jazz (still have it) and I have added a few more axes (too many....tell me!!) and other gear over the years (4 and 5 stringers, fretted, fretless, EUB and acoustic double bass).
My main "go-to" bass currently is a 4 string 90's Moon from Japan.
Aside from checking out the various forums on BC I am looking forward to sharing my experiences (good and bad) and helping others if and when I can.
All the best!!

I do get tired of the constant e-mails though, which often just repeat the same stuff up to a certain cut-off deadline. But I did see that he now gives you an option to decline further e-mails on a certain topic. Like the SBL strap "offer", for example. If I recall that was where you needed to pay import tax from the U.S. No thanks.
