I suspect he wants the money he spent on Rick bits back, hence the ridiculous price which he absolutely won't get. The bolt-neck Oli posted is a Matsumoku, really needs a good clean-up and most of the hardware from the "Shaftesbury"! J.

what do you reckon...custom rickenfacker?
Bassassin replied to SignsOfDelirium_bassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Following a link on Korpiklaani's website & putting 2+2 together, I'd bet it's an Amfisound. I can't find the actual bass on the site but they've built a couple of custom Rickalikes for other Finnish bands, and the little round logo looks right. Jon. -

This one also looks like it's had a new 4-saddle bridge & full-size tuners fitted already. Not to mention the pink sparkly scratchplate! J.
A new-ish Force 4 has just popped up on eBay this morning, too, though considerably more dosh for what is probably a not particularly special bass compared to the older ones.
I'm sure these are fine for modern Chinese (or wherever) imports but like Aria, these days Washburn seem to have an undeservedly poor reputation which I'm sure is what leads to the 80s JapCrap classics being priced down like these two have been. However a quick Google suggests the Force 4 usually sells for between £299 - £450! Ridiculous. Anyway, been digging and I've found a bit more info about the SB40: http://www.g3h.be/wings/vulture2.htm It looks like this was a transitional model between the Wing series Vulture through-neck & the Force 40, hence it being dubbed "Vulture II". There are a couple of differences between the one I've bought & the ones in the link - different control layout - mine has vx2, tx2 and a 3-way selector & doesn't have a mini-switch. It also appears to have a cast chrome bridge as opposed to the bent tin / brass bogseat saddles, although this may have been swapped at some point. Pickup spacing's slightly different, with the P unit being shunted slightly bridgeward and the J unit moved the other way - this looks the same as the Force 40 and actually suggests they might've run the 2 models concurrently for a while. Anyway I'm clearly rambling now, updates & pics once it arrives. J.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Bassassin replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Here's a couple of nice Fujigen Jazzes - first of all a 79/80 CSL, like mine only blacker: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220646803893 Highly recommended if it's anything like mine - it's an astonishingly good player & probably my favourite bass. And a mid 70s Antoria, refinished red: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=150474677665 It's had a pair of DiMarzio Model Js bunged in it - if anyone here buys it, sell us your pups - I fancy sticking a set of these in my CSL! J. -
Here's a proper one at last: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=370415335904 Suffering from a bit of neck/body delamination leading to an acutely high action, a bit of clamping & gluing will help a little. Not sure what this is - I think it's possibly one of the MIJ ones that very occasionally turn up badged as Fresher, or it's a Brazilian-made Giannini. J.

The Silverado's without a doubt the tastiest looking of the bunch and to be honest the only one I'd give a second glance to. Reminds me of this in many ways: Apart from being nearly 3 times the price! J.
Cheers for that. There's a similar one on the bay for £40. Do you reckon it would be worth a punt at that?
Unless there's anything drastically wrong with it then yes. Got a link? J.
Glad to see all ends well. Started regretting this thread...like so many others of mine lately it was really giving me cause for concern! andy
Oh, no way Andy this one's no cause for regret. I think the whole thing's ended up brilliantly and even if that SB40 hadn't turned up, I had no ill-feeling about what happened. Either way, I'm really glad you posted it in the first place. J.
I've just found this on the bay: http://wap.ebay.co.uk/Pages/ViewItem.aspx?...ass&emvcc=0 Is it any good? Looking for a funky customisation/restoration project...
It's similar to the Aria A-100 pictured here: http://www.matsumoku.org/models/aria/catal...og_pg1.jpg.html An awful lot of 70s starter basses with this Burns-inspired design turn up on Ebay - it actually looks like various factories in both Japan & Korea produced these. I would say the Encore's Korean, the mahogany neck & blank, round-cornered neckplate are typical MIK features & not usually found on MIJ instruments. Personally I wouldn't expect it to be up to much. Low-end 70s/80s Korean stuff was pretty dire and I would say it's about twice the price it's worth, particularly if it's going to be a project you spend money improving. Jon.

Korg D1600 SOLD SOLD SOLD
Bassassin replied to 2pods's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Have a bump on me - I've got one of these & it's a lot of multitrack for the money. Worth mentioning that it can record 8 tracks simultaneously so is good for full-band recording or a fully miked-up kit. The built-in HDD is easily upgraded to fairly big sizes - I have 160gb in mine. Very versatile box if you take the time to find your way around it. Jon. -
If I had £1300 I would - I love that finish on a Rick. Don't suppose I could persuade you to sell me the black Hipshot for a pittance, could I? Jon.

Mazeti's only an importer brand name, not a manufacturer, although this might have come from the same factory. Gawd knows where that is though - China's a big country! J.

Possibly the first bass solo I heard, definitely the first one I tried to play: Lemmy - Keep Us On The Road, from Motorhead's first album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11DHbpERlRM Solo's at about 3.06. Still can't think of one I like any better. Jon.

Cheers for the support chaps - I've had a few PMs about this as well. However I think it's time to drop it - I have an easy come, easy go outlook about this sort of thing and I missed out this time, that's all. It's not worth getting hacked off over - there have been enough raised hackles on BC in the last few weeks already so let's chill about this. Hope BIA gets the bass safe & sound & posts some pics. Jon.
wow. never. ever. seen one. I would have walked to Edinburgh for that. Made famous on the 'Graceland' album. £99!? Bloody Hell.
I'd had every intention of walking down to the shop tomorrow morning - it's about half an hour from where I live. Didn't occur to me to reserve it 20 minutes before they shut. I vaguely know some of the guys who work there - I suspect if I strolled in tomorrow & offered them £150 for it they'd happily sell it to me. But I won't do that, because I'm not an utter ignorant c@nt. J.
Just found these two makes/sites.... quite interesting stuff.... not sure if they've been mentioned/discussed here before?
The Tuscany Rick copy came up in the relevant thread on the Ebay board. Here's where the brief discussion starts: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=881548 And reading back through it, that looks about right to me. A sodding PM would have been polite. Your screen name says it all though. J.
