For Sale Superb Fender P Japanese Copy - Super Light!
bassatnight replied to bassatnight's topic in Basses For Sale

Folks, Bought this lovely Fender P (Faked) a wee while back from a fellow BCer and super happy with it but having a clear out of some of my back up Basses. Its a bit of a mystery as its clearly not a Japanese Fender despite attempts by a previous owner to Fake it, having said that the neck is wonderful and the bass as a whole is the lightest I have ever played and would suit someone with back problems. The serial number on the neck does match up according to the Fender Serial Number website with a 90's Fender P but this is not correct. I would say like the previous owner that this is of similar quality and tone to a good Mexican or Custom Vibe. She has a sunburst finish and she has a few skuffs which I will photograph when I get home today. I am looking for [s]£175 [/s] £150 - plus £25 p&p

Sting stopped playing his purely down to weight but what does he know! They are lovley classics. Bet its lighter than my TB2000!

I have had fretless Wals and own a Travis Bean TB2000 fretless which Mick used for four of the 5 Japan Albums, I also believe a couple of tracks on Tin Drum were the TB2000 but he found the metal neck an annoyance as it constantly goes out of tune under different temperatures (I can also vouch for that!) Mick never changed his strings unless they broke but replicating his unique style is a nightmare due to his shall we say unique approach to the finger board. He wasn't called rubber fingers for nothing! I would go for a second hand Mexican Fretless, I paid £250 for one of the Bay I changed the Bridge and pups on and was pretty perfect.

Folks, I have been offered a late 70's Travis Bean bass (Fretless) As a big Mick Karn fan (and in the market for a fretless) I am tempted but will have a play first, it plays well (according to the owner) but is not in the best condition knock wise although nothing major. He wants £800 for it and as I have never seen one for sale have no idea if this is a fair price or not. 1) Anyone played one or own one? 2) £800 - Fair? Steve.

Mark Egan Ibanez Musician Signature Bass Guitar ?
bassatnight replied to sheldon's topic in Bass Guitars
I also can't recall a Mark Egan signature model of any kind. I do however recall him playing a musician in the eighties that he had altered, perhaps that's what you have, in which case you may have struck gold! -

G-string problem (ooherr missus)
bassatnight replied to bassatnight's topic in Repairs and Technical
Some Pics... I have managed to improve it slightly but the G string still tries to jump out of the nut making playing impossible. I am open to suggestions, this would appear on the face of it to be a build issue as nothing has been changed the bridge and nut seem original. I have a feeling the original owner was aware of it as the bridge saddle is a low as you can go, clearly trying to compensate by lowering the string at one end to make up for the slight lift beyond the nut and before the tuner. If I push the string down physically with my finger between the nut and the tuner the string works perfectly, clearly the run between the nut and the tuner is too high. I am at a loss now! -
G-string problem (ooherr missus)
bassatnight replied to bassatnight's topic in Repairs and Technical
Cheers guy's, I have pushed the string down as far as it will go on the tuner, between the nut and the tuner the string is just too high. Apologies I did mean the brisdge saddle. I'll take a pic but this one has me stumped!? -
folks, Got a problem with a new recruit, my new 5 string olp has an issue with the G string remaining in the nut slot when plucked. Basically it tries to escape the nut housing when played. I have raised and lowered the bridge adjuster but to no avail. Any suggestions? The other 4 strings are fine. Cheers, Steve.

Folks, I have just got myself a lovely 5 String OLP via E-Bay and am amazed at the quality for under £200. Does anyone know why they were discontinued?

bassatnight replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
Wish I was, I remember seeing him back in the early eighties with Paul Young, loved his fretless Ray playing. -
Cheers guy's a lot of good info for me to go on. I'll post up some pics when she arrives. I don't mind a wee bit of soldering but really want to make a good job of it. Anyone experienced in the Cambridgeshire area ;o)

Folks, I have just purchased a rather lovely 5 string OLP of the Bay. I will be looking at upgrading it to as close a SR tone as possible, any suggestions? Had a quick look at You Tube and found quite a few upgradaded one that caught my ear had Nordstrands and a pre-amp and frankly the sounded damn close to the real Mcoy. Suggestions welcome!

From my experience over some 25 years of being in various bands, making ground rules is a real no no, having said that you must all be signing from the same hymn sheet. You need to ask yourself what you want and where you see the band going. It sounds to me like the band or at least one member see's you as a weak link, the fact this rule was cooked up in your absence and without your agreement seems a little convienent and harsh. Ask yourself what you want from a band and if the current band do not meet your goals then leave and start your own from scratch and ensure your new band mates have similar goals and targets to you.

High End Fretless Question Wal Vs Pedulla Buzz
bassatnight replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
Nice playing! I am thinking the Pedulla might be the one! -
Anyone tried these new (Japanese Made) 70's Fender P's? They look awsome with the block inlay's. If they release an all black/maple one I will induldge! Just seen a guy playing the white version on you tube, the tone is pretty good.

I am toying with buying a high end fretless, my heart tells me Wal but my brain (and wallet) are plumming for a Pedulla Pentabuzz. A second hand Wal will cost around £2500 and a Pedulla about half that, is a Wal really worth twice the price my ears do not hear a great deal of difference, I know Mark Egan goes for Pedulla. Any Thoughts?

I checked the serial number with the Fender serial number website, the number relates to a Mexican Bass made between 98 and 99. Something not right about this one in my opinion.

I always loved Simple Minds 'Someone up there likes you' from the 1982 album New Gold Dream. Also theme for great cities From earlier minds (belting bass) My fav is 'Jean walks through fresh fields' by China Crisis from memory it's on the Difficult Shapes album. You can't beat a brassy synth and a bass.

Folks, I am thinking of investing in a Roger Waters Sig Bass, I have around £500 to spend on a Fender P and want a all black maple but cannot stretch to a grand for a US. having done a little research (mainly you tube) I couldn't help but be impressedwith the tones on the Roger Water Model it comes with some nice extras like the Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-3 Quarter-Pound split-coil Precision Bass pickup and a nice brass nut. Anyone got one? played one? Thoughts? Steve.
