  3. NBD for me! I picked up this VM4 from the classifieds earlier today, It's a 2013 so the body shape is more traditional P than my newer VT4 and so a little heavier but I really wanted to give a MM style pickup a go.
  4. What's the bass? I did this with a Lakland once. It wasn't an expensive instrument but was what I considered my first proper bass and had an amazing spalted maple top. I still regret selling it.
  5. Have to agree it's a pretty weak line-up, a few acts I'd like to see, especially The Cure, but overall it doesn't feel that exciting. Have to agree with the Kylie and Janet Jackson comments, I can't see why they are the big headline acts.
  6. Seems to have stopped now (phew!). Though I notice I'm now only being presented with 2 ads on rotation (rotosound and elixir).
  7. Only started this evening, but I'm getting it on 2 phones now - my work Samsung and my personal Huawei.
  8. I've trying to browse Basschat on my phone (Samsung) this evening. Logging into basschat as normal, hit main screen once advertising loads I'm getting redirected to a Samsung prizes website, at which point this massive red warning appears. Hit Basschat 2 or 3 times and the same thing happened each time. Tried multiple other websites including Wikipedia and Talkbass , nothing, so appears to be isolated to BC. Anyone else having similar issues?
  9. This is interesting. I was going to change the preamp on my Fender deluxe (to get a better passive circuit ironicly). Maybe I'll disconnect the J pickup and Blend control and see how it sounds.
  10. Markbass have just the thing for you .. hehe 😂
  11. I was never unhappy with the songs, except for maybe one or two that the singer really wanted to do. I did find that I was becoming less and less enthused though and, as my playing ability improved, I was wanting to go in a different direction to everyone else. It wasn't my main motivation for leaving but there is a sense of relief over it.
  12. With mixed emotions I ended up quitting the band I've been in for the last 3 years. It was only ever a casual thing, gigging a few times a year at local chairty fund raisers or private bookings for friends & family but it was the first band I was ever in, a great experience that I learnt a lot from. Family circumstances and some increasing needs my son has forced the decision though it hadn't been the same since the lead guitarist, who was a fabulous musician, left last year. I hope it won't be forever and that in the future I'll be able to find something else but for now family comes first - I'm also kind of looking forward to just playing stuff just for me, rather than investing hours into learning set lists of other peoples choosing.
  13. Indeed, looks like a similar finish to what Alpha have been doing with their custom builds.
  14. I love my Sandberg PJ. for my rock and Indie covers band I tend to blend to around 90% on the P pickup for that classic rock sound. If I'm playing funk or Chilli's then I bias to around 65% on the J pickup for a bit more treble and growl. I also have a Fender Deluxe PJ but I rarely use the J pickup on that bass and keep it biased 100% to the P. I'm sure there are many factors to the difference i.e. pickups, preamp, la Bella flats, but one of the reasons I liked it is that the Fender PJs have neck profiles more akin to those on a J bass than a traditional straight P. I also suspect the reverse P pickup design on the Sandberg means the PJ configuration works better.
  15. No spoilers please , I've just finished P basses 😀
  16. I realised about 6 months ago that I just don't like 12" cabs. I'm currentlyusing a traveller 102p and like it alot. I tried it side by side against a NY121, which I instantly disliked, and a few other 12"'s and it just gave me more of the sound I like. My first ever bass amp was a Eden EC10 - a small 10" practice combo; I loved the sound and perhaps that set my tonal preference. When I joined a band and upgraded to a GK head, I got a GK 410 for gigging and a Hartke Hydrive 12" for rehearsals. I loved the 410 but never warmed to the 12" cab. I upgraded that to a Barefaced Super Compact, another 12", thinking maybe it was a Hartke thing but I still didnt get on with it so that went too and hence the MB TRV 102P now being my cab of choice. Playing with the EQ is definitely a good idea, even with my traveller 10" cab I'm a long way from flat but perhaps like me you just prefer the tightness and punch delivered by 10s.
  17. I love the relic job on my VT4. I totally get why a lot of folks aren't into it, and normally when I buy an instrument I spend ages meticously checking it over for imperfections but when I saw this at Bass direct I totally fell for it. Though I have to say the Delano pups look a bit out of place on it , would have preferred black label.
  18. @ped are the Wingbasses like yours tuned the same way, I.e. octave up?
  19. I emailed Mayones yesterday to enquire about prices and ordering etc, I got a response earlier today - no complaints from me on Customer Service (though it was delivered straight to my spam folder). Full cost looks to be around £1500 inclusive of VAT, delivery etc. That's a serious investment given you have no say in design, woods etc. You get what you're given. Will have to investigate Wingbasses
  20. I've not seen him before ; will have to watch a few vids to see what the beef is about :).
  21. Mark bass Travellers at the moment. 2x10 which I will add either another 2x10 or a 1x15.
  22. Have any BC'ers picked up a Little Stubby?.. keen to hear thoughts, I briefly got to try one at the bass guitar show last year but didn't get a feel for volume - I'd like something I could use at Rehearsals. Doesn't have to necessarily keep up with an acoustic drum kit as drummer uses an electric kit so can turn the volume down but I want to be able to get a reasonable amount out of it .
