1. I drew a blank too
2. Hi folks anyone got an ideas for a bag/case for a palatino ve500, I've got a gig down south next week and I'm going to fly so I'm not taking my upright. On talkbass some guys have mentioned making a case but I'd rather just buy something, snowboard, bags ski bags, keyboard bags an ideas appreciated. I had the dimensions somewhere but can't find them I think the bag would need to be about 170cm.
3.
Thanks for responding. You say 'bitch to play in the traditional manner [etc.]'. Did you try playing in some other manner?
Well you could just tune it like a six string bass and play single notes, I did that it had a bit of an upright sound but didn't really have the volume. I reckon you have to give the proper technique a go really.
4. I love those wee triplets the bloke does on the vihuela
5. They have the Lucida in CC in Glasgow bizarrely the are distributed by an Italian bloke in Glasgow which was a bit odd.... It's chinese but seems quite well put together. Tho I have to say it's a bitch to play in the traditional manner tuned too A D G C E A you play octaves plucking 2 notes at once it has a lovely mellow sound but not easy. I'm going to make an admission since I bought the upright I haven't played it too much but I am now going to to try an get a couple of hours in a week. Anyway the main man in the Guitarron world is Natividad de Santiago he developed the plucking thing and I have a few books and stuff so if you want any info give me a shout. Check these guys out ! 6. Cheers mate I'll give em a bell.
7. Hi I was wondering if anyone knows of a hire shop in the Southampton, Isle of Wight area I'm playing at Bestival and getting the bass down looks like a nightmare as we were hoping to fly, alternatively does anyone know of a flightcase for hire in Glasgow?
8. Yeah should be good we are playing two sets so really looking forward to it....
9. The Chihuahuas are pleased to announce we are playing 2 sets at Rob Da Bank's Bestival. The first being in the Polka Tent at 9.00 and later at 11.00 in Club DaDa. If anyone makes it down be sure to say hello! 10. Hey Paul you are the man in the know you were spot on about my basses!
11. It looks in great nick, Boosey and Hawkes are just importers does it say anything else on the label. My B&H is a golden strad I have to admit I love it it's a great bass. I'd take it and get it professionally set up though I reckon a bus journey might be a drag!
12. Hi Folks i wonder if anyone knows where I can get a cheap German bow I picked a up French bow in the UK easily ut there don't seem to be any German ones. I find the French bow really uncomfortable and the underhand technique seems much more natural.... Cheers Stevie
13. Man that looks like a lovely bass how much are you looking for out of interest?
14. Just bought a couple of sets of the D'Addario Preludes £62 each from stringmail
15. Cheers I need a half size set as well for my wee bass as the missus is going to start playing again, might just just buy em and be damned!
16. Lol yeah me too but it was a bargain
17.
Apparently the easiest and most effective modification is to remove the bridge, cut a piece of bicycle inner tube to the size of the channel the pickup lies in and lay it underneath the pickup so it lies between the pickup and the bass body. It takes away a lot of the brightness and brittleness of the Palatino's sound.
Yeah the bloke did that you know its quite a nice looking thing really...
18.
Gear4music do cheap strings for about £20, i'l be sticking some on my stagg next week so I'll let you know how I get on with them
Great cheers I don't want any mods to start costing too much....
19. I know I saw it I was just too lazy to read it
20. Hi Folks picked up a very cheap palatino EUB, which I'm basically gonna use for wee jams in my lunch hour in work.... First impressions are: It's a bit sh*t, it sounds very thin, the action is high, it doesn't sound like an upright, however, it's perfect for what I need it for and it was very cheap. In saying that I wouldn't mind making some improvements, the caveat being I don't want to spend too much money, I know there are loads of mods and improvements : Can anyone recommend cheap strings (would they make it a bit beefier)? Can anyone recommend a cheap bridge (could I fit it would it sort the action) Any other cheap upgrades appreciated! Cheers Stevie
21. I bought two double basses and a cello in the Barras market in Glasgow for £75 all in, the basses are both sorted and are great, cost a bit more to fix em up but a proper bargain. I recently bought an Ashdown LG 1000 for £269 which was ridiculously cheap and it sounds pretty cool to me I've owned and used loads of amps and cabs I wouldn't say it particularly lacked quality, the wee guy in his pants on the front looks a bit sh*t mind you
22.
I don't think you can go wrong with a GK MB150. Available second-hand on eBay for 300-350, hold their value, are small enough to take anywhere on the bus with an EUB, and you'll never need an upgrade.
I have a PJB bass briefcase which is great for the upright dunno about an EUB though.
23. Yeah it's awesome
24. Just bought the Flite cab off Pete an absolutely splendid guy I felt a wee bit guilty getting the cab for such a bargain price!
