1. It's like a 1/4 size body but the string length is 1/2, and I went to Ken who I can't recommend highly enough!
2. Got the wee bass I found the barras market in Glasgow back from the luthier, fixed the crack replaced the bridge and planed the fretboard. Imho it looks great, apparently its bigger than a 1/4 body but smaller than 1/2. The luthier, who was brilliant, really liked it he had a cheaper version of the bass and a local jazzer has an almost identical bass, so he was knocked that there were three in such close proximity. Obviously it has a smaller body so less bass but it still packs a punch and I reckon amplified it will rock, and you can take it on the bus
3. I bought a K&K bass max which I'm quite pleased with, I was looking at using my sansamp bddi as a pre but it's a bit overkill I think, so I have just bought PJB Bass Briefcase which incorporates a bass buddy, so I was hoping I could DI at bigger gigs monitor with the briefcase , we shall see.....
4. Is it the these? Scott Hinds vids
5. I think you mean slap bass where the string slaps against the finger board and you then slap with your hand.
6. The 2008 festival will take place on the evening of Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of September, at the Hall, Lydney. Abel Ganz are playing on the Sunday 28th.
7. what do you reckon for a gigbag?
8. Cheers Andy my lovely girlfriend actually paid for the repair as a birthday present so I don't really know the exact price but quite cheap I think! You didn't get the one on ebay did you, someone saw another Golden Strad?
9. New pics
10. Sorry to hijack the thread but what is the best way to avoid this happening??

12. Satellite short scale black and white precisionish looking thing, sh*t but done the job!
13. I'll let them know Jon I'm sure they'll be pleased to hear from you.
14.
Are Davie & Denis still part of AG? I used to to sing - rather badly I might add - in a band with Davie & Denis
Yes they both are what band was that then and I'll say to them? I've been playing with those guys in various bands for longer than I care to remember.
15. Yeah Andy got them from the barras taking the big one thru to a guy in Edinburgh tomorrow he sounds like an excellent guy so fingers crossed!
16. Just a quick bump, just about to load the tubular bells into the mini
17. Cheers guys I'm going to wait till the bass Luthier has some free time it's the sensible thing to do I might see if I can source some of the fittings for the B+H before I get a spot in the guys schedule. I'm in the process of seeing what I can beg, borrow or steal but quite prepared to pay the cash really. Good idea about the cello, my girlfriend has her eye on the 1/2 and considering she encourages my bass obsession (2 double basses, a cello, 3 bass guitars, a guitarron, plus numerous keyboards and guitars) I think I should keep on her good side. She'll probably end up a better player than me though Absolutely spot on about a school department probably not economical to repair when you can get a brand new Chinese instrument that can do the job for the same cash...... but they are so beautiful they can't go in the bin!
18. There has been a lot of very helpful people in touch so its been great and I reckon I'll get some help with the set up I'm a wee bit worried about the cracks. The only people have seen are good but pricey and I just got the impression they weren't really too interested in the repair business so I have some other contacts. A friend of mine suggested I go to a guitar luthier the guy is a great craftsman but I don't know if he would do it or if he could do it but I'll find out. Another luthier I spoke seemed to be very reasonable told me you didn't always need to take the top off you can glue the bass but there is always a chance the cracks will reopen, you know considering the bass cost around £25 its a risk I might take, this guys sounded spot on but was really busy and you know I fancy a wee shot on the bass you know how it is So I'm scouting about still very positive you know its a bit of a project!
19. If you fancy the prog and beer of course
20.
Stevie, you could try Paul Hyland in Anniesland College on the Great Western Road - he's the main tutor there in the violin/guitar making course. If he won't do it himself I'm sure he'll recommend some one else who will. He might even have a student willing to tackle it as a repair project which would save you a lot of money if you have the patience...
Cheers that's a really great idea my neighbor works at Anniesland I'll try them. The guys I saw wouldn't give me a price but thought it would be expensive, I've spoke to another bloke though and he seemed pretty reasonable and has a good rep.
What market in Glasgow did you get that great deal from?? Please dont say the barra's, cos im down that side of the toon all the time!!
It was the Barras sorry mate!
21. Off to see a Luthier today keep you posted.
22.
You planning on getting into the wonderful world of double bass?
Yeah I've been looking at forums emailing people and pricing various basses so it was total luck that I stumbled on these guys.
23. Cheers mate that's what I was hoping to hear!
24. Hi folks here are the pics of the cracks so any advice or idea of costs would be much appreciated. Selmer pretty nasty looking crack The B+H doesn't look as bad but reckon it might be in more serious position Any help would be appreciated!
25. I'll take some pics when I nip home at lunch I reckon the 3/4 might be more worrying than the smaller one even though it has one almighty crack it's nowhere near the soundposts. But I reckon the 3/4 has cracks in more critical places
