1. Off to see a Luthier today keep you posted.
2.
You planning on getting into the wonderful world of double bass?
Yeah I've been looking at forums emailing people and pricing various basses so it was total luck that I stumbled on these guys.
3. Cheers mate that's what I was hoping to hear!
4. Hi folks here are the pics of the cracks so any advice or idea of costs would be much appreciated. Selmer pretty nasty looking crack The B+H doesn't look as bad but reckon it might be in more serious position Any help would be appreciated!
5. I'll take some pics when I nip home at lunch I reckon the 3/4 might be more worrying than the smaller one even though it has one almighty crack it's nowhere near the soundposts. But I reckon the 3/4 has cracks in more critical places
6. I got the lot for £75, the cracks in the two DBs will cost I think but I reckon they'll be worth it
7. Just bought two double basses and a cello for next to nothing at a local market the guy wanted rid of them Selmer 1/2: Czech made everything intact but has a crack in the body. Boosey And Hawkes 3/4 : has a foreign sticker in it violin bloke I know, reckons it's Czech, cracked as well and needs everything tuning pegs etc Musima Cello: East German in great nick beginners instrument needs all the bits. Anybody got an idea how much it would cost to fix a crack in the body of a bass, in all honestly they were so cheap it would have to be really pricey for it not to be worthwhile.. The Selmer is really lovely actually looks hand made. What a day! Thats my bass back from the luthier I have to say the guy was brilliant and he has done a fantastic job here is a pic Over the moon!
8. Yeah Allan Campbell lovely bloke not saw him for centuries.
9. My mate from school was in the UK Subs if there is a big tall Scottish bloke playing guitar called Allan say hello from Stevie! Cheers mate.
10. A six hour with the prog band cos the songs are long and the, everyone keeps forgetting their bits, age I reckon. Three hours with my new funny instrument, folk outfit with two hours trying to tune the guitarron
11. Just heard the bass is an Antoni which has negative and positive reviews. I've seen the bass brand new for a similar price online as this one and it is second hand, looks new tho. I reckon the shop would have given it a good setup worth a go? Sorry dlloyd if I've hijacked your thread mate.
12. Hi guys been watching this thread closely as I'm thinking of taken the plunge into the world of double basses anyhoo tried my first one today and I was really sh*te however it was great to try one.... I reckon it'll take a lot of practice. The bass in question was Chinese, which I've heard the odd bad thing about chinese basses but it seemed great to me admittedly I know nothing and it was a good price second hand, and the shop in question has a very good reputation so I don't think they would sell me a pup. Obviously its not gonna be the best bass in the world for under 500 but they will have professionally set the bass up. Are there any good no name chinese basses out there?
13. Yeah it was brand spanking. One of these. http://www.trace-elliot.co.uk/product.php?...l=5&key=222
14. Just had a rehearsal and I borrowed a mates Trace Elliot 1215 500w Combo, brand new never used, he has an endorsement so it has been sitting in his lockup for a year or something . I had trace stuff back in the day but its funny how you kinda associate gear with an era Trace is a bit eighties to me a bit uncool. Anyhoo the upshot being I gave it a blast and it was awesome just absolutely fantastic, really punchy. I didn't take my effects with me and the bass just sounded amazing, I loved it. Dunno if anyone has one of these bad boys but if you do yer a lucky person.
15. I'm much better than I was at keeping things in proper nick. My 4 string is beat up, I've had it since the late 80's but it sounds and plays so good I'll just never sell it so it's probably irrelevant value wise.
16. waaahay!
17. Man I'm jealous!
18. I think I've found someone selling them. Definitely gonna buy one, keep you guys posted!
19. Yeah he did (fairground attraction guy). Cheers for the info FG I saw Lucida Guitarrons quite cheap but I'll mail the lone star guys\1 And Aargh who is Hobgoblin?? Any info appreciated! cheers S
20. I saw those guys man looks great I think, guy has probably been playing all his life tho
21. That's the very chap.... I like the look of it could be a waste of cash tho You get them much cheaper by the way, just don't know if you could get one in the uk tho.
22. Anyone ever tried one of these mexican bad boys? I have a notion to buy one to play and this acoustic band that may be starting, be good for a laugh and no-one will know if your sh*te (I hope)!
23. CC music is coming back as an old school music store, basses, guitars, amps ..... No high tech kit apparently.
24. I'll get someone to take a look at it! I'm bit rubbish with the tech stuff to be honest.....
25. Hi just wondering if anyone knows to regulate the output volume a ray (apart from the obvious ). The problem I have is my fretted and fretless 4 stringers have a similar volume output but my 5 string is incredibly loud in comparison. I know I could just turn the volume down but I've played the fretted 4 for about twenty years and keep the volume at 9 o'clock so I'e got room to push it up and down as the tune requires same with the fretless. The 5 seems to hit the same volume at 3 o'clock and live results in the loudest bass in the world or no bass at all...... Lowering pickups.... do I just live with it??
