  1. Never tried one but i would like to one day. Love the hi tech look and the fan fret concept and from what iv'e heard on youtube the low B on the 5 string seems very good.
  2. Kev B - Unfortunately these ailments come along at some point and have an impact in different degrees to our lives and what we do with them on a regular basis. Your old drummer will unfortunately feel the pain in his fingers while putting a spoon in the sugarbowl at some stage if he's been playing a number of years.
  3. The condition you're referring to used to be known as 'policeman's heel' after a common complaint from street bobby's on the beat. Generally known as a 'spur'...it's a build up of calcium on the heel bone causing pain and discomfort. I first had treatment on mine in the early 90's and have since had 3 steroid injections up through the fleshy part of the heel into the inflamed area, hurts like hell, and in my case made no difference at all, i still have it!.....You may respond to the jabs and get some relief, a lot of people do.
  4. Agreed entirely....She was unique when she first appeared on the scene in the late 70's and still retains that status. Legendary theatrical performer too. There's no one like her even today! I don't know why i wrote 'even today'.....Like there would be this kind of creative talent around these days!
  5. Depending on what i want to achieve i generally use an amp sim from Logic which are very good or occasionally from Guitar rig. Sometimes i use Klanghelm IVGI2 saturation [free plug in link below] or a bitcrusher distortion for some grit and a compressor to optimise...... Mostly i favour a clean, round bass sound and use a bit of drive to give some extra bite over GTR solo's etc. https://klanghelm.com/contents/products/IVGI/IVGI.php
  6. I ordered mine at 1am this morning at £18.19 from Amazon...lucky i did then, it's Amazon best seller status. It is £55 in Waterstones too.
  7. That's a great interview, thanks for posting. Rush have been probably my biggest musical inspiration right back to the 70's and although i was heavily influenced by Neil in my days behind the kit, they may well be one of the few bands in my musical history that i have had an equal admiration for all the members involved, not only as musicians and songwriters but as people with a passion for what i love......And i still haven't ordered the book! Fair play Ged.
  8. Just picked this thread up and read front to back. What a great production to be part of....The experience and knowledge gained in just One show is worth the years playing to the bar staff at the local Drum and Monkey. You look well chuffed on the Buggles number. Kudos to you sir and thank you for sharing it with us all.
  9. No problem at all...Hope his style and talent as a song writer reaches people more people. He seems a pretty chilled guy too.
  10. Love Eb, Alice in Chains domain, awesome! I like D standard and have tried it a few times but as i use a detuner on my Berg effectively giving me two basses in one, standard 440 and drop D. I would need to dedicate another bass solely to achieve D standard as i like to set up an instrument for a particular tuning and leave it alone. I simply don't have enough basses!
  11. Absolutely.....Surely standard tuning on a 5 string or drop D/C on a 4 is low enough. Well for me it is.....but each to their own.
  12. Have watched this a few times recently and thought i'd put it here for those who haven't yet seen it.
  13. Opeth manage with standard tuning and drop D.
  14. My reason for flats - I wanted to get rid of the string noise generally associated with roundwound strings, i also liked the idea of a smoother feel under my fingers. Although i like the Rotosond RB50'S which i seem to go back to on all my basses, i am at the point where i rarely go over 10/20% treble gain. I decided against the stainless option to minimise fretwear and bought a set of Rotosound RS77LD's. I knew i'd have treble in abundance to tweak for a slightly brighter cut without too much of the added noise of roundwounds.... They seem to be working well.... i've only had them on for 2 days and have pretty much dialled in an aggressive growly tone with a bit of top which is great for my predominantly rock style. Tension is good for a standard set which are lighter than my regular heavies to compensate for the flats being wound slightly tighter. They feel pretty slick too. In conclusion the change has forced me to re-invent my sound which makes me appreciate the quality and flexibility my Sandberg jazz has to offer.
  15. Ordered a set of Rotosound 77's..... I guess at £28.89 and same day delivery from Amazon Prime they qualify as inexpensive flatwounds.
  16. It is a great album indeed.....Have the live Plush TV Jazz Rock Party 2000 on now. Love their live stuff from this period, yeah the bassline to Gaslighting Abbey is just so tasteful yet hugely funky, Tom Barney and Ricky Lawson [rip] in the pocket, what a rhythm section, they groove on 'Jack of Speed' too!
  17. love most of their stuff and in particular Hero town....The big fella on the drum throne is so solid, cracking feel too. Reminds me of the theme tune to Grange Hill!
  18. Thanks, that's valuable advice to me though i have yet to find a 50/110 set of the Adagio's. I like your take 'buy cheap, buy twice as many'.......i'll use that some time, though she'll probably have some sharp and wise retort of some kind!
  19. Ah, ok...Thanks, i think i will mooch about a while longer as even though those Adagio's are a cheap try-out i can't see a 100 gauge string being of satisfactory tension tuned to D....I should have mentioned i use a drop tuner and go from standard tuning to drop D so i'm only concerned about the E string feeling right when i do, the rest i imagine would be like for like or thereabouts. Perhaps i'll wait and grab another jazz in the new year and dedicate that solely as an E standard bass with flats......Hmmm Report post Posted just now My wife has always said 'buy cheap, buy twice'......You know she's generally right!
  20. I'm thinking of getting a set of flats but having never used them i'm not sure how different the tension will be as iv'e read they are tauter than rounds......RB50's are generally my go to so if i changed to flats would a 45/65/85/105 be a good equivalent to compensate for the extra tension?
  21. Vulfpeck, off the wall, wacky and brilliant.
  22. On giving more thought to why i am actually selling the Sandberg it's really for all the wrong reasons.....thinking that i'll replace it for something equally as good for less outlay is pretty pointless. In relative terms i simply won't get an instrument of the same quality without having to shell out much more which really isn't the objective. I foolishly sold a brilliant Lakland this year that i loved which i still regret and feel i would regret moving the Berg on too also.... So this is more about what i would lose if i did let it go....It's a joy to play and it covers pretty much everything. I am always pleased with what it delivers for my solo projects in the studio. Thanks for all your offers/trade options. Sale retracted. Regards John
  23. Great band, and like The Brand new Heavies have carved out their place in the genre.
