Just come across this I know its a 70s ish style but it might work as a 50s aswell?? But I'm thinking just 1 soapbar at the neck position?? 🤔

The plan was to get this build back underway when the 5 string neck arrived but after 2 months and quite a few emails no neck arrived but I did get a refund for it in the end, so now I'm hoping to order another neck and get it back on track.......... Im still going to do a 5 string with Yellow body with Black pickguard and Chrome hardware but I can't decide on whether to do a 50s Tele or Precision style?? I'm really feeling the 50s Tele style but I've been trying to find a 5 string Tele bass pickup but I can't find one, I can't afford to go down the route of a handmade pickup so if I can't find one for a reasonable price I might have to change the pickup choice?? I don't know if I really want to do the split coil look as the Mike Dirnt look has been done a lot any different pickup idea's please??..............😀

Due to the nice warm weather the paint has dried nice a quickly so I thought I'd do a quick mock up............ 😀 I don't know if it needs the logo on the lower horn?? 🤔

I thought the body needed something so I decided racing stripes are the way forward to tie in the black neck and headstock I've decided at present not to use the pickguard............... Just waiting for the paint to dry then its time to get it all back together....... 😀

Does anyone know if there will be a NWBB this year?

The 5 has got a JAN but the 4 hasn't so I will probably change it but I've got my other builds to finish first I was also thinking of stripping my Quincy back to bare wood and just oiling it because it's got a really thick looking satin poly finish at the mo and maybe converting it into a $$ style and if I really wanted to it would take much to make this look like a Warwick........

You can get used RB's for a reasonable price I've just picked up 2 (a 4 string Corvette and a 5 string Corvette) for £350 and they are in excellent condition according to the s/n's the 4 string is a 2002 and the 5 string is a 2014 its just a shame they haven't got the 2 part bridge tho but I could always change them at a later date

@Unknown_User I did think it had a bit of a Tbird vibe? I keep on toying with the idea of blending an Sg and a Tbird to make something a bit different?? I meant to ask earlier what top wood is it?............ 😀

Tort can make the nicest bass look minging!! IMO black is always the way to go with sunburst!! Great job!! 😀

Good luck with your build mate looks like an interesting body shape!! The neck looks great!! (but I am a sucker for maple and block!!) If your not too experienced using a router I would recommend making yourself a jig for the control, pickup cavities and neck pocket also get a top bearing flute router cutter that will reduce the risk of things going wrong very quickly Looking forward to seeing this take shape......... 😀

I'm going with the F bomb logo instead so that will either be on the pickguard on on the body depending on what I choose to do? Yeah your right I do need to notch it out round the pickup and shorten it a but so it's not too close to the last knob Sorry I know I let you down regarding your paint colour ideas and I humbley beg your forgiveness 🙏 😜

Here's a quick mockup I can't decide if the pickguard looks OK?? With or without opinions please?? If I decide to use the pickguard I will have to adjust it a bit so its not too close to the last knob......... 😀

Yeah I've seen it called smoked chrome aswell it does look nice! if I do decide to change it then that would certainly be an option.......... 😀

The neck has now had 2 coats of Black!! I'm going to let it dry for a couple of days then it's time to start getting it all back together................... 😀

As the thunderbird has a logo on the pickguard I was thinking of doing the same, because this is going to be called the Exploder I was thinking maybe this might work??...........

I know what you mean I've got a 5 string Jazz neck on a slow boat from China at the moment too for my P bass build...........

I think I'm going to go kind of option 2 but paint the neck Black instead of White so it got a bit of a Duff McKagan signature (if it was a Fenderbird) vibe? I've got a strat that I painted the neck satin black and it's quite nice to play so I think it will be OK?............. 😀

No I just flattened it and went over the top of it, if this was for anybody else I would have stripped it back re-undercoated etc, but as its just for me I didn't bother It's just maple normal grained nothing stunning looking........... 😀

Here's the second coat of Satin White on the body........... I'm going to keep the headstock Black but I'm considering paint the neck White a la Thunderbird style?? I can't quite decide?? 🤔

I've always heard good things about Exotic Hardwoods UK I've personally not bought from them but I think @Andyjr1515 uses them for his builds?? Not sure if they do Holly though??..........

I'm like you I enjoy learning the songs more than scales and stuff but I mostly learnt riffs first like Longview, Sweet child of mine, Black night (Deep Purple) etc but here's my list of full songs I think it's basically in chronological order? Holiday - Green Day Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day Hard to Handle - Black Crowes Africa - Toto Killing in the Name of - RATM Monkey man - The Specials The list of songs I want to learn but are way beyond my ability at present is 10X longer
