  1. If your circuit is the one above with the switched resistor in the op amp feedback then the sound you are hearing is because of a small dc offset in a very sensitive part of the circuit. You could quickly try switching in a resistor in the other part of the feedback ie the grounded part. Try maybe 2k plus 2k switched. Better yet swap round the resistors and low cut capacitor so resistors are connected directly to ground. Hope that makes sense and is worth a try before the passive attenuators option. Good luck
  2. Hi Stew, The soldering on the jack socket does not look like a factory job to me, so it is possible that the socket has been re-soldered or replaced at some point. They're not the most reliable of components and I've lost count of the number of sockets I've replaced on instruments, including Warwick basses (even made in Germany instruments) that use this type of jack. It is possible that it's been incorrectly wired. The ring connection should be connected directly to the battery negative and nothing else. The tip is signal and sleeve ground. As the bass works when a fresh battery is fitted, it is likely that the tip is correctly wired but the ring and sleeve may be reversed. If you have a TRS jack lead and a multimeter, plug the lead in and check for continuity between the ring and battery negative terminal with the battery removed.
  3. 1990s Crate GX80 guitar combo for sale. In good condition this is a 2 channel 80 w solid state amp with reverb, made in the USA with single crate badged 12" speaker in open backed cab. It all works as it should and is reasonably light and compact as well as being quite loud!
  4. I estimate the packed size would be 70cm x 30 x 18 and weigh 5Kg. That's allowing for a good layer of bubble wrap and cardboard packaging. Based on this, UPS are quoting £37 (classed as a medium size package) Their price is based on size and not weight, so more packaging could possibly be added without increasing the cost significantly. There is likely to be customs import duty and taxes payable as well and I've no idea how much that would be. It may be a better option for you to arrange collection from me, if it's still of interest.
  5. Peavey envoy 110 guitar combo. Solid made in USA construction in good condition. Single 10" speaker in open backed cab. 2 channels plus reverb.
  6. Marshall's own modelling amp, featuring digital versions of all their classic valve guitar amps from the 60's onwards. There are 100 factory presets as well as the ability to download others from the Marshall online forum, or create your own either on the amp or using USB connectivity and a web browser or app. There are 24 built in effects of which up to 5 can be used simultaneously. This is a great amp for those that like the Marshall valve sound but can't afford to buy and maintain a collection of vintage valve amps! It uses a single custom 12" speaker in a fully enclosed cab. This amp is in very good conditions and with it's 50W digital power amp weighs in at 13Kg.
  7. Sorry. I've only just seen your post. I'll look into it and get back to you.
  8. Various 12" speakers for sale, surplus to requirements. Mostly dual cone full range, one McKenzie bass speaker. Looking for about £30 each but open to offers?
  9. Carlsbro GLX100 combo for sale. As new condition. 2 channels and 2 master volumes selectable. All the usual EQ and reverb. Celestion speaker. Open to offers.
  10. LaneyLinebacker LB30R combo for sale. Made in England in 1988. 30Watt, Solid state design with Mosfet preamp for a valve-like sound. Celestion speaker. Low and high gain selectable channels and spring line reverb. In good condition for its age. Open to offers.
  11. An effective vaccine is going to be the only realistic game changer. News on that front seems to have gone quiet recently but there are a few options in major trials I believe. It's going to be a tough winter all round but fingers crossed for spring next year maybe?
  12. DigiTech RP20 valve multi-effect pedal for sale. Top of the range back in the day and still capable of many usable effects. Includes a valve preamp section and comes complete with power supply. Full working order and cosmetically good for its age. I have a printed and PDF copy of the manual.
  13. Weighing one side at a time with the digital bathroom scales the total came out at about 40Kg which seems about right. Marshall do not seem to publish a weight in the user manual. It is large and very solidly constructed from ply (22mm I think). The amp is also solidly built and being class AB has a weighty toroidal mains transformer. This all helps the sound but not portability! I fitted metal side handles to replace the plastic originals as they had a few cracks and it's an easy 2 man lift or a one man struggle! The castors are a great help though! The weight is the main reason I'm selling it as it sounds great IMO.
  14. As you already have the active circuit, why not try it out. As noted above the single pickup wire is a screened cable. It should not be too hard to figure it out as its mostly prewired anyway. You'll need a 4 pot control panel or relocate the jack to the side of the body maybe? I guess it mostly depends if you have the confidence to experiment yourself or know a good local tech.
  15. Looks too severe for orange peel unless you sprayed on a really thick coat in one go. Maybe it's a paint reaction with the underlying finish. Sand it back until flat and spray again. Hopefully the first coat will act as a sealer and the finish will be OK. Many light coats generally produces the best results. Good luck.
  16. If its purpose is to offset the Miller effect, it would be better going directly to ground but C3 is effectively a short circuit at all but very low frequencies so probably does not make any difference. It would be interesting to know if it makes any audible difference disconnecting it. It could also assist with HF stability if the circuit layout is not particularly good.
  17. It could be a wiring fault. Most often the battery circuit is completed by inserting the jack plug. The exception to this is usually on an acoustic bass with a built in tuner. Often the tuner is switched on with a small push button independently of the jack and it's easy to leave it on - I've done it more than once on my Taylor bass! I suppose the logic is that you still want to be able to tune the bass to play acoustically? makes sense but is not bass player proof 🙂
