  1. I've been getting into compression because of my first time mixing with a DAW. This has resulted in me buying a compressor for my pedalboard after many years of not having one. This video is great and I really like that he says, "Use your ears," rather than using preconceived numbers. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Oh, oh! The financial, black hole that is the configurator 😂. I ordered my 2 custom Elwood Ls before this existed, but I’ve had fun with it since.
  3. I have 3 of them (2 customs and 1 off the peg) and there’s a whole thread dedicated to them. As with any manufacturer, some folk have had some small niggles, but overall it’s very positive. They have their own YouTube channel too. https://www.youtube.com/user/PublicPeaceMI
  4. Certainly, nothing worthwhile at least. 😕
  5. That’s not great ☹️. You could have an entire bass built from makers in that time. However, are you in an all fire rush? It’d be a shame to purchase something in haste that isn’t right, only to end up selling them and buying what you really wanted in the first place. Maybe buy them for Nordy direct, I think they have 18mm in stock.
  6. Not shallow, you like what you like and you've got to want to play it. If Wals weren't so eye wateringly expensive , even 2nd hand, I'd be looking at them also. However, they are expensive and heavy too (one thing I have to avoid) so I can just ogle from afar. You could look at something like this, which is Wal-esque. https://www.public-peace.de/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/jazzus/jaz-4str/1780-jazzus-4a-balkan-apple-burl-200045
  7. The 80s is a fab genre for us low enders. For those, like me, who like* the sound and feel of fretless, it's when the bumpless beast© was often front and centre in everyday 'pop' songs. * love in my case.
  8. Great amp for any bass. If I didn’t already have a Flightcase and PB300, this would be the one for me. GLWTS
  9. You’re not wrong: Jaco, Geddy, Tim Commerford, Norman Watt Roy, to name but 4 - all very different, all very good, all use/used a Jazz.
  10. Great basses, I had a white one that I eventually defretted and it was still great. Why did I sell it now? 🤔
  11. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the least if you go down that route.
  12. I don’t remember them being particularly noisy, all I remember is the very rude, yet pleasing response the first time I dug in with them. It really was a case of, “Who’s that? Oh, it’s me. Nice.” If noise is a concern, then Big Singles would be the way forward. Check out the comparisons online. EDIT: It seems @Woodinblack has beaten me to it with a very similar reply. 😊
  13. Another vote for Nordy Big Singles.
  14. Ooh, that has potential. To be clear, I don’t own an EUB, but these threads pique my interest.
  15. And then there’s the price.
  16. I use Skiss ski tubes for my skis and I would've though they were ideal with a nice soft bag to keep your NS off of the plastic. You're obviously experiencing some difficulty with this solution.
  17. That's what the headstock seems to indicate. However, nothing in Google images for a bass version, or on the Mayones website. The eBay ad mentions Cort .
  18. Nice, sounds just as it should.
  19. With restrictions being lifted, the best advice I can give is to go a shop with a good range and play a bunch until you find what feels and sounds right for you. As a start point, a Fender Jazz and Precision and an MM Stingray (or Sterling) are some to try. Then you could move onto some of the other 3 makes you mention, all of whom make a very fine bass. If you can get to The Gallery in Camden, they’ll look after you very well, have all of those you mention and then a load more.
  20. Does anyone know what the Maruszczyk standard bridges are made from? I had one of the black ones off of my Elwood L the other day and where the paint has been scraped away for a better earth connection, it looked decidedly coppery. I only ask as I might be looking to replace it and have poked my nose into the aluminium vs brass rabbit hole (😬) and want a point of reference.
  21. One of us, one of us! You’ll never regret the move, I certainly haven’t.
  22. James Last and Bert Kampfert were regularly played in the home of my youth. I didn’t mind it, but I preferred the Ted Heath Orchestra, The Peddlars and absolutely adored Tom Jones Live at Cesar’s Palace (with Big Jim Sullivan on guitar).
  23. To quote the Happy Mondays, you're twisting my melon, man. 😲
  24. Whereas the '60s is worshipped and revered, when there was even more, let's be nice and say 'sub par', output. To be clear, I was brought up in the '60s, so it's not as if I don't have a connection to it. For me the '70s and '80s were decades when not only were there significant changes, but the level of musicianship seemed to increase too. It was born out of the '60s certainly, but one swallow (or two) does not make a summer, to coin a phrase. As ever, YMMV.
