  1. I just used the speaker in my tablet to remove any notion of hifi reproduction. Tone open: I couldn’t tell the difference, even knowing where the change was and playing that section over and over. Tone closed: the Moolon is darker and reminds me of my old ‘63 P (same colour way by coincidence). Both most definitely P basses, both very, very nice.
  2. Preamp straight away? What’s it not doing that you wish it did?
  3. I had a good feeling about this installation and, for once, it was totally valid.
  4. These look like the doggie’s dangly bits. I really like to try one. Maybe a trip to Anderton’s when normality and stock return is on the cards.
  5. Hubba, hubba 😍.
  6. Especially on the B string, it having so much mass. The pickup height might need to be raised on the G, but I reckon that’s going to work fine without over compensating with adjustments.
  7. Final details worked out last night over a band, Zoom meeting. We’re going to play an hour’s, ‘unplugged’ set in the drummer’s garden and stream it on FB a week Saturday.
  8. Looking good. I really hope that these work out.
  9. Get 'em in, get it going! Ooh, I'm as excited as you probably are. Vicarious GAS is often as good as the real thing.
  10. I prefer shorter scale (32/33”), 4 stringers. But, thanks to BC, I had continuous Sadowsky 5 string GAS. Conversely, I also have real short GAS, but this time thanks to a YT video someone shared on FB where the bass player was using a Serek. However, this has led to Wilcock GAS. I ‘need’ none of these things.
  11. I’m not sure what I just watched . Interesting ‘bass’ rigs.
  12. The truth, right there.
  13. Guy's recent video had me look into the latest version of the Roland Dimension D, the Boss Dimension C Waza. Lovely for guitar players who want to get their Prince on, but this demo also shows, in places, it being used with a bass.
  14. Mwah, ha, ha! One of the harsh mistress that is GAS's many ingenious and seemingly innocuous ploys. It is too late for you I fear. 😂
  15. What a pocket! That had me bobbing my head from the get go and those simple, yet perfectly placed fills made me grin from ear to ear. Quality.
  16. I like my external preamp (Sadowsky) as it offers frequencies my amp doesn't and, as a side benefit, it buffers my signal. By not having it in my bass, I only need one preamp, not one for each bass. The downside is having to have my pedalboard available, but as I also use a compressor, chorus, octave and pedal tuner, I'd probably be taking it anyway. If I only had one bass, I'd probably fit an Aguilar OPB1 as that does the same job as the pedal and free up some room on the board. EDIT: Holy thread resurrection, Batman!
  17. Burn the witch! 🧙‍♂️🔥😂 To be honest, I'm sure I could managed with just one (maybe two) but I'm afraid of the mob with burning torches and pitchforks.
  18. Good man! If they don’t work out, you can always sell them. However, I hope that you like them and post some suitable sound clips.
  19. Price fixing.
  20. I reckon that will be fine, any output issues can be sorted by pickup or string height. I've seen worse alignment on brand new basses and guitars. This is my P type, sounds fine... However, if you're really not sure, don't do it.
  21. Given that there are plenty of Js and Ps in the wild, where there is less than perfect alignment over the pole pieces with indiscernible output differences, I reckon you’ll be pretty safe.
  22. The steaming method is used on bare, non lacquered/varnished/whatever finishes. You take a damp rag/cloth, place it over the offending area and then apply a soldering iron to the cloth over and around the damaged section. The steam permeates the wood fibres making them swell up and flatten(ish). Some light application of wire wool, or similar abrasive is sometimes used to finish off. Whether that will work in this instance is unclear, as the top looks like it has been sealed. However, if there are cracks in that coating, it may allow the steam to get in and do its magic, it could also make it look worse. Rotten thing to have happened ☹️. EDIT: Just seen @Reggaebass’s suggestion; I’d go with that.
  23. Despite the odd interloper, Tony Levin still uses his ‘Barbi flesh’, Stingray 5 extensively.

    .

I really liked these when they were released. Deserved a wider audience IMO. Sadly, I'm sorted in the 4 string, super Jazz dept or I'd be getting very twitchy over this - it's lovely. GLWTS and all your others (man alive, you're having a clear out!).
  25. And this is why art is so wonderful and diverse. I'd rather stick my nuts in a vice than listen to Brit pop. I dislike it (obviously), however, Blur, Oasis, Suede, Pulp, et al sold many, many records, so someone liked them, just not me. As ever, YMMV.
