  1. Was good enough for Chris Squire and is more than good enough for the pick meister that is Bobby Vega (apparently some Liverpool born player uses a pick too). Seeing BV at a bass show encouraged me to use the pick more and I enjoy it, along with fingerstyle. As stated above, it’s another tool.
  2. Just Like Paradise - Dave Lee Roth
  3. GAH! What's that I hear from the kitchen? Ah, the dulcet tones of Lady Ez, "Move along, Chris. There's nothing to see there!" Someone will be getting a slice of pure '80s loveliness .
  4. Waiting for the Worms - Pink Floyd

  9. Maybe he should try using KY. Man alive this has gone OT!
  10. No More Heroes - The Stranglers
  11. Still totally awesome. For me, every day is just a bit brighter with some Rush and if there’s some comedy thrown in, all the better.
  12. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
  13. Disappointed by that, not by Guy, but by the choice of song, which was a popular request. As a bass part (as with most PF) it’s a bit dull IMO. I wonder what GP’s having done to his shoulder, rotator cuff perhaps? Bummer for a stringed instrument player, bummer for anyone really.
  14. Never seen her live, but she is a class act.
  15. Dem Bones Dem Bones Dem Dry Bones - Delta Rhythm Boys
  16. In the early 80s, I saw Jeff Beck on the There & Back tour at the Hammersmith Odeon. This still rates as one of my top 3 gigs of all time. Although everyone was great, it was Simon Phillips’ drum solo that had everyone on their feet. I was expecting the usual bore fest that drum solos normally are, but SP’s energy, speed, accuracy, musicality and just sheer stamina were a sight to behold. Just as soon as you thought it was over, or he was going for the obligatory slow section, he just launched full speed into another round of virtuosity. I’ve never seen the like since. I also saw Segovia at the Festival Hall on the Southbank. He must’ve been 80 at the time and shuffled on stage very slowly and I was ready to be embarrassed for him. Not at all. As soon as he sat and took up his playing position, the years fell away and he just ripped up and down the fretboard. A proper moment.

  18. Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot
  19. Move On Up - Curtis Mayfield
  20. I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down - Elvis C
  21. Waltzing’s for Dreamers - Richard Thompson
  22. Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart
  23. Bell Bottom Blues - Derek and the Dominoes
  24. Station to Station - Bowie
  25. Sadowsky SBP-2 and MXR M87. As I currently use passive basses, the SBP-2 just sprinkles 'fairy dust' on my tone, whilst the M87 (new to me this year and only used once live) just adds that pop to make my bass sit nicely in the mix, it's at the end of my chain, rather like you would for a recording.
