The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
ezbass replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Those SWB Chownys look very interesting, when guitar shop visiting gets back to normal and Anderton’s have them in stock, I must try one. -
I'm not sure if I've ever shared a photo of my old Sandberg (sadly moved on in one of my '5 strings only' clear outs, only to go back to 4 - again). So I shall remedy that situation forthwith (apologies if I added it many moons ago).

I like that - a lot!

I owned an '80s built 335 some time ago. I was OK, but weighed a ton. My problem with Gibsons is the nitro finish they use, my left hand starts to stick to the neck where the cure hasn't gone off completely (I also had the same issue with a nitro necked PRS. Funnily enough, my old '63 P bass and current Rob Allen didn't/don't have this issue). I also had a Yammy SA2000 in the early '80s, a fantastic guitar and the only one that I really regret letting go (an absolute moment of madness).

One word... quality. That is all.

Have you considered battery power, like the Volto? I love the freedom of mine.

The welcoming committee will heating up the crumpets and oiling the paddle in anticipation. 😳😖

As you can’t see the nut in the second video, it’s hard to compare the nut slot positions compared to the edge of board. If they are the same, then as @Jean-Luc Pickguard says, some tension difference may be at play here. I also don’t think a string retainer would make any difference as you don’t say that it’s popping out of the nut. I’ve played a number of guitars and basses that ‘fall’ off the edge of the board when attacked very laterally in this manner, an MM being the worst offender. Moving the nut over a shade fixes this if it really is an issue.

The End! “Auditions for The 602...a diary.”

I know how you feel, my guitar chops are certainly not what they were. -

Double the money! Oh yeah, the gig situation ☹️. -
Auditioned for a guitarist and it's too close to call
ezbass replied to NoRhino's topic in General Discussion
If both are technically as good as each other, it may well come down to who had the personality you preferred. You have to get on with them too (or at least it helps). -
Mwah, ha, ha!

I’d be interested in what you’d have to say about the 414 into a Sad pre if you had/have a Sad pedal pre. Putting my 2 passive Maruszczyks through an SBP2 pedal makes them come alive and they weren’t exactly ’dead’ to start with. For something that, on paper, only adds boost @ 40hz and 4Khz, it’s an amazing circuit.

The white ones look lush to my eyes and no 'fingerprint magnet' issues to contend with (albeit less rawk 🤘).

Remove indelible marker/Sharpie from headstock?
ezbass replied to Bassmingo's topic in Repairs and Technical
Nail varnish remover works on Sharpie too. -

Currently: Gold by Spandau Ballet, Tear a Your Playhouse Down by Paul Young (I trip over the 16th note outro part though ☹️), Spirit of Radio by Rush. Seeing @Japhet’s post reminds me that I must relearn Haitian Divorce, always enjoyed that, along with Josie.

I’m not sure. Daft thing is I can remember the first thing I learnt on guitar some 50ish years ago - Teach Your Children, CSNY (although I learnt it incorrectly). On bass, I’ve come to the instrument twice (the first time I started in the ‘80s a band suddenly needed a guitarist and back I went to the 6 stringed beast) the first time around it was probably Paul Young’s ‘Hat’ or Come Back and Stay (I assume we mean songs all the way through). Second time, I think it was either Santana’s Smooth or Thin Lizzy’s Waiting for an Alibi, closely followed by Hotel California. Guitarist magazine did transcriptions and backing tracks for various tunes and I had those waiting to be learnt (I never bothered to learn them for guitar).

Another Sarf Lunnoner here (more ‘burbs these days though). Stacks of help and info here and not just about bass gear and music.

I’m turning the clock back to 1976, what an album.

Much nicer pics and a much nicer price than available in Guildford.

If you do buy something, you still won’t be using it and will spend all the time up until you do use it wondering if you’ve done the right thing (probably only to find you’re missing the Fender too). You need to wait until you’re playing again before you make rig decisions. You don’t have GAS as such, you’re just bored. If you must, buy a pedal of some description, perhaps an amp simulator. EDIT: I apologise for what seems to be an eminently sensible post. I know this flies in the face of the BC GAS credo. ☺️
