Bloody hell, Trav, that’s as groovy AF! The Soloking sounds great. However, please add another tuner to your Soundcloud avatar, the missing one makes my teeth itch.

I remember going to try out a number of heads back in the day and it was an Aguilar AG (500 I think) that was the stand out for me. However, it was out of budget at the time and so I settled for a Little Mark, which wasn’t a million miles away tonally. Some time later I shifted to Phil Jones gear, which was in the same ball park as my Markbass/Schroeder set up, just cleaner and sweeter. I haven’t changed manufacturer since, just acquired more of it. Following this train of thought and given your current P Jones experience, I reckon an AG700 might be just what you’re looking for.

Learning bass might give you some quick results with simple tunes, but like any instrument, it’s not easy and requires dedication and practise, so don’t pick the low end for an easy win, but because you are drawn to it. Whilst you can certainly learn to play by watching videos, reading literature and playing along with recordings, as @SpondonBassed says, it is by playing with others and the dynamics that that involves that you will learn best and become a properly rounded musician.

Likewise. Don’t get me wrong, I like tort, but it can be so variable and getting it to complement that particularly red ‘burst, might be tricky. Black is all business and makes the colours pop. Of course the best thing is, if the OP doesn’t like the tort, it’s an easy reverse. In fact, an alternative black guard with all the new electronics installed is probably better than stripping the old one.
